About
A traditional country pub nestled in the heart of the seaside town of Llandudno. The Cottage Loaf has everything you would expect from a Welsh country pub; open fires, wooden beams, old heavy furniture, colourful gardens, great cask ales and hearty homemade food served by a friendly face. The bustling bar offers an array of local cask and craft beers, along with world beers and a guest draught cider or two. There’s some cracking wines behind the bar, a strong selection of Scotland’s finest, as well as some other interesting and quality spirits. There is ample seating both indoors and out including the garden room which opens out onto a courtyard garden, a great little sun trap for those oh-so-brief warm sunny days. The hearty homemade menu seems to pull folk from near and far…. locally sourced where possible, with some of the meat coming from the butchers just next door! Wholesome pub classics can be found on the menu mixed with a number of interesting seasonal specials.

Have tried to book a table at this pub before numerous of our visits to Llandudno over the past few years & it was always booked up ! This time my husband and I were visiting in November, out of season, & we finally managed to get a table booked before our stay !!! It was worth the wait & we could see why it's so popular. The pub is attractively decorated like a traditional country pub, with open fires, it looks small from the outside but has been extended & for the summer there is plenty of outdoor seating out front & in a courtyard. The staff were excellent, very efficient & pleasant. The menu had plenty of choice, mostly traditional British dishes but some with a twist. My husband really enjoyed his gammon chop with excellent chips, fried egg, cooked pineapple & peas. My steak & ale pie was full of tender meat, I swapped the mash for chips & the broccoli for peas with no problems, also I had carrots & gravy & it was wholesome & filling. The only thing that wasn't spot on was the pie pastry, it was rather soggy & nondescript, however the pie filling was so good it didn't matter. We stayed in the pub for another drink after our meal, it was a pleasant place to stay on a November evening. The Cottage Loaf prices aren't cheap but we felt it was worth it for an enjoyable, filling meal. We were glad to finally try the pub & we would definitely visit again, we would advise people to book it several weeks before their visit to Llandudno to ensure a table, especially in the summer, you can book online.

Following recommendations from several friends, my wife and I visited the cottage loaf during our recent stay in Llandudno and were very impressed with this pub restaurant. The menu was extensive and included many options for special dietary requirements at very reasonable prices for the quality of food served. In addition, there was a large and varied drinks menu to choose from. The restaurant itself is like a traditional country pub but located in the heart of the town making it look slightly out of place. Overall, I could not fault anything during our visit, great food and drinks as well as excellent service. Will definitely be returning.

Came here with my partner for a date night. The staff were excellent and very accommodating and the food was 10/10. We went for a salted pretzel with a cheese dip, mini German sausages in honey with a curry ketchup and fried pickles as a starter. Our mains were steak and ale pie each however we asked for chips instead of mash which the staff accommodated for. Reasonably priced and amazing quality. Great value for money and we genuinely feel “stuffed” which is a rarity nowadays.

Unfortunately my burger was cold and undercooked if a member of staff had approached us to ask if everything was ok during the meal I could have pointed this out . When the young lady eventually came to collect our plates it was obvious that the burger was pink she went to tell the manager who obviously couldn’t be bothered and offered us pudding as we were leaving . We have called at this pub for many years as we live locally that was definitely the worst meal and service we have had there

Was recommended by the hotel were staying at, we didn't have a booking but managed to find a table after a short wait. We ordered a steak pie and a bacon chop and to be honest we're a little disappointed. The triple cooked chips were still hard inside and very pale when I mentioned this to the waitress she said she was sorry and the just walked away. My husband was served mash with his pie which he said was dry instant mash, for the money we expected better. Best thing of the night was the cheese board almost £18 but a good selection of cheese but more biscuits needed. This pub had a really good atmosphere with low beams and nice decor but for the money the food was lacking and disappointing .... not sure we would go back

Friendly, helpful, female staff but surly waiter who doesn’t know what lagers he has available and didn’t follow a basic request for no ice in coke, he offered to remedy this but his attitude was, as I say, surly. The Mexican chicken dish was average, chicken slightly tough, tortilla chips had seen better days, almost stale. The salad was advertised as coming with avocado but I saw none, I complained because the avocado was one of the reasons why I ordered this dish. The waitress offered to take my dish away to remedy this but I said I’d carry on eating but just please bring the avocado to me. The waitress returned with a manikin of more salad which contained a few chunks of avocado & she explained the avocado was normally mixed in with the salad. Seeing these avocado chunks in the manikin highlighted that indeed none had been contained in the original salad served to me. When you’re paying Cottage Loaf prices you should expect not to feel like your being short changed with key items missing which are clearly advertised on the menu

Well we have been going here every year on Boxing Day for the last 10 years ,and always been lovely, checked the online menu this morning all excited for our meal. I have the turkey roast every boxing Day , when we arrived was told it had been taken off the menu , the only other meal on the menu I would eat was the steak , it was £30 and as thin as a piece of paper ,so disappointing . We would not waste our money here again

Every time I'm in Llandudno I eat here, and it's the best food and atmosphere you could ask for, and if you happen to get looked after by Zoe then you’re in for a laugh along with it, this little hidden treasure is superb, it serves exceptional locally sourced ingredients, great selections of local brews and epic desserts, the Pie is jammed full of the best steak and the gravy is like your Grandmas (if she was good at gravy of course!) the four of us had a variation of plates, from Pies to Pak Choi, burgers to fish and chips and each and every mouthful was delicious! The harisa cauliflower nibbles were epic and I could have eaten half a ton of them! I've had the pleasure of Heston, Jamie and Pierre and all of them could learn a trick or two from this local pub! Thank you Zoe for not making me have the Vegan custard! 😳 Epic food, great staff, lovely hand wash in the loos! This pub really does have it all! once again thank you all for giving us the best full tummy ever.... until next time ... because there always is a next time ….

We visited on Easter Sunday expecting a lovely lamb roast as is traditional and in line with what we’ve had on our previous visits over the years. Bizarrely they weren’t doing lamb so that was pretty disappointing as their online menu states it is served. We ordered four starters, being four of us and my daughter’s garlic ciabatta didn’t arrive. We asked and waited and waited, eventually a dry single slice of cheap garlic bread with no garnish arrived. £3 this was charged at and when I queried it with the manager she said it’s the way they cut the ciabatta (untrue as it was clearly cheap frozen garlic bread). She offered to bring a second slice and when we declined she did eventually remove it from the bill. My starter of halloumi was served with ranch dressing which was revolting. The soup stater was ok but instead of the fresh roll we’ve had in the past with it, it was served with a slice of dry processed white bread. When our mains arrived we waited and waited for the sides (veg for the beef and the cauliflower cheese we ordered) and we were then informed there was no additional veg- I lifted up my slice of beef to find ten peas, a bit of cabbage and a tablespoon of carrot mash. Oh and one potato cut into four s d roasted. For £17! I had to order extra veg. The cauliflower cheese came late and I had to chase it up twice. Other diners were complaining and at this point they were fed up and just wanted to go. The manager said they’d had a lot of complaints and knocked a bit off the bill but it still ruined our Easter meal and we still paid nearly £70 which was at least £30 too much. The manager blamed staffing issues but I don’t see how a lack of wait staff stopped them serving lamb at Easter or resulted in such paltry portions and high prices. We used to visit here every time we came to Llandudno. Sadly after this experience we absolutely will not be back.

Although this was our third visit, I feel standards are not as before. I would say the food, well presented and cooked was not exceptional as it has been in the past. I had the double burger with chips, the chips were overly cooked and too crispy. My wife had the fish dish but quantity not great. The young waitress was not able to give me an answer regarding the difference between nibbles and starters and when presented with the card machine to pay I felt it was basically thrust in my face. On the display were options regarding tips, all I was told quite abruptly was “if I want to leave a tip press one of those” ! We left a little disappointed and not sure whether we will return. On this occasion it was for a wedding anniversary and wanted it to be a special visit.

This was a very popular restaurant/gastro pub and when we tired to make a reservation, we could only get in at 5pm, so it’s advisable to book well in advance. We were given the window seat and enjoyed the potted crab with asparagus, tomato and dill salad; the very generous chilli nachos with braised beef brisket on tortilla crisps, topped with glazed cheddar, guacamole, sour cream, tomato salsa and coriander, with a Greek side salad; and the steak burger, which had two patties with mild cheddar, crisp lettuce, tomato and bacon jam on a toasted sesame brioche bun, triple cooked chips, coleslaw, tomato, chilli and lime chutney with a crispy onion ring. This was all accompanied by a bottle of the 2021 Amori Pinot Grigiot Blush delle Venezie Region. The service was friendly, as was the ambience provided by the dark, thick wooden beams, old, framed photos and treasured objects inside the restaurant.

After a late morning tour of the whisky distillery we booked for lunch. We arrived more than 20 minutes early as we were unsure of how long it would take to walk from the distillery to the restaurant. A warm and friendly greeting on arrival, we were shown to our table. Sitting in the atrium overlooking beer garden it was lovely and bright. The waitress took the drinks order first and we weren't rushed to order the food. For starter we opted for the seafood sharing platter, at £29.95 you would think was a little pricey, however, the amount of seafood on the platter for 2 was more than worth it. My only criticism would be that the prawn cocktail could be served in 2 small dishes rather than one as it would make it easier for sharing. Batter on haddock was light and fluffy and was not frozen from a packet like some reviews state. For main my husband had the lamb and I had the sea bass. The lamb was very nice and the sauce was perfect. The seabass was lovely, however, it was missing the crispy samphire and croutons, but that didn't detract from the dish. Fish cooked perfectly and the carbonara creamy and a large portion. Would definitely come back on next visit to Llandudno and this this has been the best out of the 3 meals we have had on our visit.

We visited on an early Saturday evening. We had a drink in the beer garden first - good service at the bar and a great selection of beers. Also served an excellent Aperol Spritz. We were then directed to our table. Great service followed; a lovely bottle of wine (well chilled); excellent nibbles to start (the hummus and also the homemade hash browns). The steak pie was really good (and I've had a few!!) - was able to swap the mash for chips and was then offered either chunky chips or fries. Other main was the chicken with sticky sesame, soy and honey - very much enjoyed by my other half. Service was great throughout and there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub. We even came back later for a night cap; its good tat they have tables reserved inside for drinking only. This is a pub doing the right things really well in my opinion. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again the next time we are in Llandudno and would highly recommend to family and friends.

Superb Sunday Roast Arrived with no prior booking and were seated after a short wait. It was clearly a popular choice for locals too. I opted for a smaller plate roast dinner which was approximately £5 cheaper but did not stint on quantity and I would have been happy paying for a full mains dish. Absolutely delicious lamb roast. Amazing gravy and roast potatoes! Well worth it. 5 stars

Been wanting to try this place for a while now and it absolutely did not disappoint. 1st class service, amazing food and a lovely atmosphere. The pub itself is so cozy and reminded my friend of the pub out of the film The Holiday, cozy, welcoming and generally buzzing with lots of people. We ordered 2 fish and chips (1 small, 1 large), the honey sesame chicken and the sea bass. All meals were delicious and were enjoyed by all. My only recommendation would be that the large fish and chips defeated my husband and he LOVES his food, but he said it was absolutely amazing. Can’t wait for a return visit when we next come to Llandudno, thank you for a great evening.
