Decorated with custom made artwork and wood carvings imported from Thailand, the restaurant offers a unique Thai experience to everyone that visits. We were a party of 11 on a Saturday night, restaurant was very busy as you would expect. Drink and food orders taken promptly starters came out in good time, however we had to wait over an hour for our main courses and although food was good for some in the party it was a bit late to really enjoy the food. Food was very tasty some dishes seemed much hotter than the menu suggested! soft shell crab was excellent.

This restaurant has the most amazing carved wooden door as you enter and inside it is very hip and trendy decor. We had the lunchtime menu which was 2 courses & a drink for £11.99 awesome value for fabulous food. My daughter is vegan and there was no issue with taking egg away from a noodle dish. We had various starters from tempura veg to duck & prawn rolls.All were presented well and with fresh ingredients. Our mains ranged from noodles,a salmon dish,a veg thai green curry & a chicken curry all were fabulously cooked and well presented. Great flavours in all the dishes. Staff were very friendly and tentative. There is an extensive drinks menu also. Great ambience.A little gem.

The best Thai food outside Thailand

We came for the first time last night on recommendation from friends who come here a lot. They brought us with them this time and we weren’t disappointed. I had a Massaman curry which they spiced up a bit for me and it was packed full of lamb which was so tender and full of flavour. My friends had sea bass, sweet and sour chicken and also massaman curry which were also fantastic. The fish came on a tea light heater to keep it warm which was a nice touch and that tasted great too. The service was quick despite it being full although sometimes they can be quite slow apparently. It’s the best Thai restaurant I have been to and beats anything in St Albans!

Discount not so good!

So I will be honest in this review but it needs to be highlighted the strange ordering system when your discount is applied and subsequent irritation it causes and for me a matter of principle. Firstly it needs to be said I love the food here and have never really had any issue with the taste and quality over the years. I tried to order a delivery today. I’ve been ordering delivery throughout the lockdown and since they have been open to do so. I’m unable to drive so there was a purpose for home delivery. Deliver order is minimum spend £29.99 however the store has (and you may feel it’s great at this point) applied a discount of 15% too when you spend over that figure. The problem is the discount gets applied first (as it’s not on the delivery of course only on the food) this brings you under the figure which for me at least today means you have to spend more to then get the delivery figure before the delivery charge is then applied. So basically to get the discount you have to spend more. If there was an option to delete the discount I would have spent the right amount to be able to get delivery. I called the restaurant. A fairly pleasant chap answered the phone and after discussing he went on to explain about the delivery charge being outside of the discount which he has no control over and as stated I get but it was not seen that because of the way it works I have to order more to get the delivery. He was fairly nonplus to the point that for me it is then principle and he would rather lose the order other than to suggest I’d get more discount if I collected which was the whole point of ordering in the first place. Birthday Celebration (but disappointing experience)

Celebrated my birthday here and I wanted my family to experience Thai but disappointed as serving was way to small, we had reservation but they keep us waiting when we arrived as our table was not ready and the waitress was irritated all through out serving us. But the place has nice ambience and food presentation was nice. My family specifically said I was having a birthday dinner but they just forgot my bday treat and just put a coco ice cream that says Happy Birthday lol in a rush! ( talk about spoiling the fun part :( ) I think for the price and food this is a bit much. So many thai resto around that can give you the same taste.

Tom Yum Potak too good to miss, staff will cook to your liking if you need more spicy, always busy so need to book although they will always try to fit you in. Could try skinning the monkfish better and not cook so much so it's not chewy. Staff great if you get to know them.

Great takeaway

We’re lucky that several of our favourite restaurants have switched to delivering during this really difficult period of social distancing. Easy online ordering and a pretty accurate delivery time. The lamb shank and slow roasted beef were both brilliant, only dish that didn’t travel so well was the sweet and sour chicken as it had gone a little hard but was still tasty. Thanks Sala Thong!

Extremely Disappointing!

We’d previously had a takeaway from Sala Thong in Stevenage on a couple of special occasions which had both been lovely. Last night we ordered another for a birthday but it was beyond disappointing! The food was cold, bland and the pork belly dish was swimming in fat. I wouldn’t usually write a review but, on this occasion, I felt I should. When you pay £70 for a takeaway you’d expect it to be spot-on. We could have bought three ‘never fail’ Chinese takeaways for this price. Never again, too expensive to be hit or miss!

Fantastic Thai...

They continue to maintain their high standards here, I tried two new dishes and both were excellent. Testament to the quality of the food was the fact that the restaurant was almost full on a Thursday lunchtime. The staff are friendly and helpful (we love Grace.!) and there’s a good vibe to the place. I f you like Thai food you’ll love it here, I had the scallops to start and the best pad Thai ever to follow and had some of my friend’s red curry which was also superb. I’ve been here around 50 times now and very rarely had a below par meal - long may it continue, I just wish they’d install Wi-Fi, ridiculous they don’t have it to be honest.

Change - not for the good.

It would appear the Cooks have changed and what used to be superb food is now very much more expensive and no where near as good. A very disappointing meal, served nearly cold and meat tough, stringy and full of gristle. The serving staff are still excellent but it was the authentic Thai food I used go there to enjoy. Will have to find somewhere else.

“Not what it once was”

A very disappointing experience. It’s the first time we have visited since the end of 2020 and dined in. Seems the menu has changed, which is no problem, although one of our favourites has gone. On arriving (1800) we were seated quickly by friendly staff. Looked like it was busy with takeaways and deliveries and more people coming in. By 1815 the place was pretty full and we were looking around to order food/drinks as no one had come. After ordering food we could see and hear people around asking when their food was coming with people saying they had been waiting a long time. By 1910 we are starting to get a bit fed up of waiting, but luckily we got our food before other people that had ordered before. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed at the food we had ordered. It all tasted quite bland and the portion had notably shrunk since we last went. We were very disappointed with how the food taste and portion has gone. Also with the extended wait. Overall I feel that the prices have gone up and the place is not the high standard that it used to be. Happy to pay the price of good quality food and enjoy a leisurely service but this was very terrible. I think I’ve left a couple of reviews on this place before and have always been positive. Such a shame, but hope things will improve and we can go back. For now we shall eat elsewhere.

The food is amazing!

The food here is amazing! As a Londoner the prices here are London prices (for mains) which I wasn’t expecting but when you see the quality of produce, portion sizes and then taste you won’t be left disappointed or shirt changed. I’ve been here a few times and have never left disappointed or hungry. Staff are very happy and welcoming. The only area where they could ‘up their game’ is to be more accommodating with changes to some dishes with meat choices as it’s a fixed menu. I’ll definitely be going back!

Have eaten here many times over the years. Great Food & service. Now doing deliveries because of covid, great food, really outstanding service - call to check and suggest alternatives due to allergen needs. They are just fab.

Great thai!

We often come here for lunch. The food is fantastic and the waitresses are so friendly, I can't speak more highly of them, always a smile when we come in and so friendly. The food is always served fresh and hot. Of all the times we have visited, we have never been disappointed.

Food Ok (but expensive for what you get.) Service poor.

Went to Sala Thong for a quick meal on a night out. The meals themselves were very tasty but small portions and expensive for what you got. It took some time for the young waiter to take our order and then a further wait for the food to arrive. We only had two mains , a rice and a pint each. When the bill arrived it came to £43.20. I put down £50 on the saucer with the bill. The young waiter then picked it up and said 'Are you expecting any change?' He looked rather crest fallen when I said yes. (Whilst I appreciate waiters , 'angle' for trips , it seemed a bit rich a 16% tip to deliver two plates of food. When the change came back I could instantly see that it was short by a couple of pounds. I told the young waiter it was wrong and asked him to check it. Which he did. He then apologised and gave me the missing money. Whilst i accept that this may have been a genuine mistake , I was rather disappointed by the experience and won't go back to the Sala Thong again
