I booked here as a surprise for my partner as a birthday gathering inviting his family/friends. From the beginning to end, it was perfect.
Everything was seamless and service was immaculate and highly friendly, really relaxed which takes the pressure off of planning. They were so cooperative in helping plan how we would actually make the surprise part happen, also really helpful with a cake I had made for him including setting fancy candles too, even if my partner walked straight into them lighting it, haha sorry!
Food was immaculate and all our party guests on the night was raving about the value for how wonderful quality of delicious food that was served, that we’re definitely coming back. Staff were excellent and never shy to help including the manager/owner who very kindly allowed myself and my partner to have the set menu despite us not having 5 other people partake as it needs 6 or more to do and we are so grateful with it being a one off. Very easy going when it came to settle the bill as it was easier for myself and the others to do separate bills. As I said, 100% from start to finish.
Thank you so much to FOH, to all the kitchen staff from head chef to KP, and the management team for all your hard work and cooperation yesterday making our experience a no pressure, relaxing and completely enjoyable one. My boyfriend loved it!

We have visited The Old Yard Tapas Bar many times now and with each visit, it never fails to impress. We have taken friends, family, customers as well as business associated from abroad.
The food is always exceptional, staff friendly and attentive and there are frequent new dishes added to the menu. The restaurant also moves and adapts with time.
The business is owned by people who are extremely hands on which has proven why the restaurant is as successful as it is (as well as the amazing food that is served!).
Wether you want a tasty meal, just a drink in a friendly bar or want to enjoy the atmosphere and watch the football whilst enjoying a platter, this is the place to visit!

45 mins after ordering and watching those who had ordered after us being served, we caught a waitress to ask where our food was. We were then told there had been a mix up and our food order had been mis-filed and not sent to the kitchen. We were given four drinks on the house and an apology which was appreciated. Bit of a disappointment though, especially after reading such great reviews prior to coming.
However, they redeemed themselves with the food which was piping hot when it came to the table and every dish delicious in its own right.
We ordered eight of the Spanish and Greek tapas/meze between two of us and despite having good appetites probably over ordered in hindsight. Would maybe go for 6 or 7 next time.
And, despite the rocky start there will be a next time as we still very much enjoyed the food , and let's face it we're all human and mistakes happen 😀

We had a mix of Spanish Tapas and Greek Meze dishes. The best we have tasted outside of Spain/ Greece. We had 6 dishes between 2 people, only just finishing them, glad we didn’t order more, but would have happily ordered everything from the menu. The kleftico and saganaki were delicious. Combining excellent food and service with superb Real Ales, our only regret is that we don’t live closer.

Truly wonderful food with great tastes, it obvious that they take the to prepare the food well, as it looked great and each dish had its own traditional flavour.
Service was excellent. We pre orderd the night before on the web site and they phoned to schedule for a pick up time (As we lived outside the delivery area)
Food was ready to pick up at said time and we got back and enjoyed every portion of it.
Also the portion size was good, they didn't scrimp on the servings.
If you like traditional Tapas you won't go wrong with this place.

We love tapas but only just learned of this restaurant from a friend who recommended it.
Arrived on time and booked in inside, we chose to sit outside as it was a lovely evening. We waited, and waited, and waited for a menu to arrive, it must have been a good 25 minutes. Eventually the menu arrived but another considerably long wait for a member of staff to take our order, I eventually took the order in myself and handed it to a member of staff - at that point we should have just left, looking back now I wish we had.
The food eventually arrived - the food wasn't warm, the mushrooms were swimming in oil, the cold potato skins weren't very appetising either, how difficult can it be for a tapas restaurant to make delicious tapas !!! There was no point complaining as there was no member of staff available who we could complain to.
When we got our bill that was incorrect too, a complete night of calamities.
We did make our views known when we left but our evening out was ruined by that point.
We would have loved to have given this restaurant a glowing review and be returning as we enjoy tapas but after our evening we can't recommend it.

We had a wonderful night celebrating as a group for a birthday. Service was friendly & attentive. Drinks were replenished frequently and empties cleared often. Food was delicious, we over order every time but everything is so tasty it’s hard not to. They make a great espresso martini too. Fantastic night, we’ll be back again soon!

After visiting the Tapas Bar many times, and being very happy with the food and service. Today we visited and overall our experience wasn’t great, we ordered food and I found my dish was cold and there was little meat in the dish, the waitress took the meal away and advised she would return and find out if I would like a replacement meal, she didn’t return until we were finished the other dishes ordered. My Sister then took the lid off the pot she had ordered and found the meat was all thick white fatty meat, we again alerted the waitress to this and she took the meal away and did not return. A colleague then came and apologised and advised we would not be charged for the meals.
Whilst I have never posted a negative review previously I felt given this was the first time since lockdown and the fact we were so looking forward to our meal out to be so disappointed with the food and service, I needed to share our experience.

So happy to get back to The Old yard tapas bar, managed to book a table for the first day pre lockdown! Had to give details and do the covid check in, all table service and every member of staff wearing masks. Was a lovely day so didn't need heaters but they have them set up outside. Two of us got the Tapas and Meze Sharer, which was absolute perfection and includes a few of my favourite staple dishes so it was well worth it. You get hummus and pitta, Spanish Chicken, chorizo in brandy, Gambas pil pil, boorakakia, Patatas and Ali Oli, Pork tiguana which is a beautiful slow cooked pork. (didn't get a pic of the pork 😔) All that for £35.99. We ordered a side of halloumi too as we love it! Absolutely incredible food - every last bit was eaten! 5*
Definitely fully back with a bang!! 🙌

We arrived for lunch and were seated straight away. Our drink order was taken while we chose from two menus offering choices for all dietary requirements. I myself am a vegetarian and found multiple choices on the main menus as well as a full vegan menu.
A member of staff came to take our order quickly and waited patiently while we all gave our order, which included orders from some very picky eaters.
Our food took less than 20 minutes to arrive and was amazing! Staff came to check on us regularly asking if there was anything else we needed, they really looked after us. It was the first time my sister had been to the tapas and she hasn’t stopped talking about it!
The best place to eat in Darlington! We will be back!

If you want consistent perfection in every single dish then look no further than the old tapas bar. I have been coming here as long as I can remember and received nothing but small plates of delight with every bite. They have a wide selection of Greek and Spanish dishes. Amazing fresh seafood and a great selection of vegetarian options. I really do not know how they do it, each dish is fresh and flavoursome. Brilliant atmosphere, really makes you feel like you are on holiday. Good selection of drinks- sangria really good. Overall if you haven’t tried it do it! I am a foody and I have never had better tapas. Every one I’ve recommended it to agrees. The old yard tapas bar till I die ❤️

Booked a table here for lunch today and opted to sit outside as the weather was nice. Greeted warmly and drinks order taken quickly. We ordered the lamb gyros, chicken and halloumi gyros and a side of baked feta and chorizo. The food was served piping hot, well presented and was extremely tasty. It was a great dining experience and we’ll be back again soon.

A lovely summer evening so we sat outside . After an hour of waiting and complaining about the slow service we received part of our food order . We waited a further ten minutes for the rest of our order by which time the previously delivered dishes were cold . When we received the bill it was for just over £100 . After pointing out that the bill was way too much it was re- calculated at just over £50 ..still too much . I was given a pencil and paper to calculate our own bill which was in fact £46 . Sadly we will not return .

I will definitely be back!!!!! Had a booking for 14 people and all 14 of us left with extremely full and happy tummies. Everything I tasted was absolutely fantastic and sooooo yummy. We ordered 64 dishes, alcohol drinks and non alcoholic drinks across the table and the service was on top form. Extremely friendly and delightful staff who were happy to help. I am from Scotland and already planning my next visit down to England to squeeze in another munch 😍😍

Must have been an off day. 3 of us went for lunch today based on recommendations and I wasn’t impressed. Good selection of Tapas but poor execution on the day but based on reviews it must have been a bad day. Seasoning seamed non existent including average Bravas which I really don’t understand. Made a comment about one of the dishes being so bland it wasn’t eaten but nothing done about it. Not great customer service for a relatively expensive business lunch.
