Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We held our Golden Wedding Lunch here last weekend . It was fabulous. The food was great the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Everything was more than expected. We would recommend anyone wanting a meal or celebration meal to go to the Chequers - you won’t be disappointed.

This village pub serves one of the best Sunday lunches around. Amazing value for money. A choice of meat, with fantastic Yorkshire puddings, 7 vegetables, specific gravy for the meat choice, accompanying sauces ie apple sauce with the pork etc. Well worth a try never disappoints

We enjoyed a perfect overnight stay, great value, and great venue in a quiet, easily accessible (if on the A1 route) small village. Owners are friendly, restaurant serves extremely good food (well worth a return visit for the food alone). The room was more than adequate, very comfortable and clean & had everything needed. We higherly recommend a stay here.

Just had a wonderful stay at the Chequers Inn. I was a bit worried venturing back into the world after months of lockdown but I needn’t have been. The Chequers was spotlessly clean and social distancing was well observed and surprisingly made no difference to the atmosphere. The hosts Richard and Aileen were so welcoming, with nothing being too much trouble. I travelled with my wife and two children and we were made feel like we were at home. The beer garden was a bonus, with plenty to keep the children occupied while my wife and I were able to enjoy a relaxing drink. The village itself is very small and the few people we passed in the street all gave a friendly greeting. The rooms were a good size with lovely comfy beds. The food, both breakfast and dinner were absolutely gorgeous with a good selection on the menu. I thoroughly enjoyed having my first ice cold pint in a pub since lockdown and would definitely recommend the Chequers Inn to anyone that either wants a nice quiet break in a village, or would prefer to stop here than in the large town of Darlington which is only a short distance. Thank you Richard and Aileen, we look forward to staying with you again in the future.

We arrived here quite late on Sunday and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. On arrival we were shown to a great room that was both spacious and clean and had a lovely outlook over the village. We then had the most amazing Sunday dinner and dessert. Great morning breakfast too. This Inn is a must stay for anyone visiting the area, you will enjoy the food, the hospitality is fantastic and its a great find for anyone visiting Croft Circuit. We made a booking for our next visit the same day and look forward to going back .

Nice village pub with accommodation. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Excellent choice of home cooked evening meals, both had beer battered haddock, chips, mushy peas with tartare sauce, very generous portion. Room good with good quality bedding and en suite bathroom. Breakfast superbly cooked and very tasty. Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful, friendly pub with great staff. Rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Evening meal was excellent. We had steak and lamb shank and both were delicious and cooked perfectly, desert was delicious and very generous portions . Breakfast was one of the best we've had. Thanks.

When we visit my son and granddaughter we stay at the Chequers Inn. It's warm and friendly. The food is amazing! ( I'm convinced "small portions" isn't in their vocabulary) The rooms are comfortable and recently redecorated, comfy bed and nice bathrooms. The Sunday roast is absolutely top notch, add to that the apple crumble for dessert and we didn't eat until the following morning...then we had the breakfast! So full we won't eat for 12 hours. Every one is friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel at home. We wish we lived closer

On first entering the premises we were met by friendly attentive staff, who took us to the room and even offered to carry the luggage. I can only say that the service continued to be excellent throughout our 2 night stay. The selection of food was good and quality excellent and if you enjoy a hearty meal then you will not be disappointed as all portions are generous. Breakfast was again hearty and prepared you for the day ahead. We had some unfortunate issues away from the pub but the hosts went more than the extra mile to assist, even refusing to give me the phone number of a local taxi but insisting on taking us to the station themselves. A good community pub with charm and character, spotlessly clean and comfy bed with the bonus of a decent restaurant.

I found The Chequers inn on google they offer excellent rates and extremely clean rooms. Run by a nice family who want their guests to return. Good choice of beers and ciders even a gin menu. Breakfast was nice too. Parking is on site and fairly secure because this pub is in a small quaint village. I will stay again when I'm in the area.

Stayed one night at The Chequers Inn Dalton on Tees. Fantastic stay. Richard and Aileen were lovely owners/hosts. Made us sandwiches and coffee on arrival - so thoughtful. Nice clean room. Food in the evening was fantastic value. The cheesecake was the best I've ever had, I'm 71 years of age, so that's saying something. Breakfast was nice and plenty of it. Our stay was great value for money. I really, really enjoyed my stay here and would totally recommend it. I would definitely stay here again and will. If you stay - ask for the cheesecake - you won't regret it.

We stayed at The Chequers for 2 nights. We arrived on our first night a couple of minutes before 8pm, kitchen closed at 8 but very kindly agreed to do meals for us. Our room was lovely, very clean ,comfy bed, adequate shower, shampoo and shower gel provided. Lovely soft towels. Tea and coffee also provided in the room. Breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked and plentiful. I’m extra fussy about eggs but the chef cooked them to perfection. Friendly staff Fair price Would definitely stay here again.

Disappointed with the fish and chips the fish was underdone and chips soggy but mushy peas were fine. Service was very good and friendly but everything seemed rather sticky -tables, doors and even the floor. Our other four friends agreed it really needs to improve.

A few of us went on Sunday for what we thought was a normal pub grub Sunday. How wrong we were . A great choice of starters including vegetarian options for the 1 veggie in our party. Good choice of Sunday roasts with fresh vegetables and all the other trimmings. Good service from attentive staff. We will be back

My partner and I stayed at The Chequers Inn for two nights for a friend's wedding in the area. Could not begin to rate this establishment highly enough for it's rooms and food, both of which exceeded expectations in every way. Amazing breakfast too! The biggest thing though were the staff and owners. I'd had a nasty accident earlier that day when I'd dropped a cup of boiling tea over my foot. When the partner asked a staff member for a ice block the owners jumped into action, going so far as to give me some special burn cream and a bandage to wrap around my foot. They frequently checked I was okay throughout the rest of our stay and we will be forever grateful to them for showing us such kind hospitality in the face of the alternative which would have been a missed wedding and a trip to A&E on New Year's Eve. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting the area, as hotel and catering offerings go our experience was faultless.
