Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Went for a family Sunday lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. The beef was cooked to perfection and all components of the meal were really lovely. We had the fruit crumble and custard which was exceptionally good. Very reasonably priced at £8.95 for one course, £12.95 for two courses. Amazingly good value. Service staff were very attentive and friendly. Haven’t eaten here for ages but we will definitely be back regularly for Sunday lunch now. Will try mid week too, based on this experience.

Excellent experience We booked the Fox and hounds to celebrate our Golden wedding with family and friends. There were 25 in the party and we pre booked our starters and main course. When we arrived we were in the conservatory and they had placed the tables in a horseshoe shape so we could all see and talk to each other. They had decorated the tables and set our cake on a small table ready for later in the evening. We had pre ordered our starters and main course to help to make it easier for the kitchen staff. The food was served quickly by a very pleasant and efficient staff. There were no complaints at all.One meal was slower unfortunately but this was explained that the chef wasn't happy with the quality of that meal so he cooked it again to perfection. The sweets were ordered on the night and my wife and I shared a crumble which was excellent and we were so full we couldn't finish it.Kaleigh the manager and her staff were very welcoming and friendly and the event went off brilliantly without a single complaint. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment and look forward to our Christmas day lunch which we booked at the end of our meal as we were so pleased.

The pub looks beautiful now that it’s been renovated it’s so warm and homely, very busy which is absolutely no surprise as the food was amazing. The Carvery has so much choice, would definitely recommend the gammon it was the nicest I’ve ever had. The service was fantastic, lovely atmosphere, will definitely be returning :)

Spur of the moment visit and looking forward to lunch. The slow cooked bacon (which was said was gammon) was 2 slices of bacon thick cut! The veg came in a small dish and after asking was told that it had to serve 2. I found it difficult to believe as cauliflower cheese should be more than one inch floret per person. If you want a meal that’s satisfying and value for money, give this place a miss!

Thought we would try this place on Monday 9th August as hadn't been for a very long time, surrounding is beautiful. Place looked clean and well presented. Our booking was 1pm we ordered at 1.15pm out starter arrived at 2.20pm! The main came out fairly quick after the starer, All we heard were the other 6 tables complaining to the waitress.. I did feel sorry for her because she was so apologetic and it wasn't her fault. We were told there was a back log in the kitchen because people who were sitting outside were walking up to the bar putting orders in and were getting priority over the restaurant, which really wasn't good! I saw some sitting outside who came in after we did get their food first! The food was alright, my scotch egg was a bit snotty in places could done with cooking tad longer the fish was like something frozen from supermarket. The chips were lovely. My husband and son enjoyed their meals but for the length time it took to deliver the starter I would never go back. This was not a one off either as 2 elderly couples sat on the table near us told waitress they were waiting a long time for their food previous week!

Arrived approx 6.45pm pub almost empty. Lady inside told us with your dog it's through there, into a run down scruffy bar area with threadbare seating. Ordered drinks and asked for a menu. Drinks served very quickly and told they could be put on tab. Went to bar to order meals nobody to be seen, lady member of staff in lounge saw me waiting twice but just ignored me. My wife went to bar and again stood waiting, whilst male member of staff finished serving lounge area customers. He turn around to see her waiting, but then went on to serve customers that had just walked in. He eventually came through a we paid for our drinks and told him we would now not be eating. Finished our drinks and left in discust, obviously not interested in our custom. TAKE my advise and pop up the road to The Tawny Owl lovely welcome, dog treats and water bowls available fantastic food, completely opposite to Fox and Hound who won't be getting any more custom from me.

Booking made on telephone Wednesday for 5 people Thursday, family turned up onThursday on time to be told sorry not expecting you, that for starter is poor and unorganised. Walked in, noticed the conservatory was empty, I asked if we could sit in there as main bar eating area was full, staff not helpful said only 2 of us on so everyone MUST be made to sit in a crammed dining area (Fox and Hounds Take Note you have lost our custom) and you will lose other peoples) if this nonsense approach to seating continues. The main dining area was red hot, no windows were openable, owners need to take note not every one is wanta to be forced into a.squashed packed area in red hot rooms with loud noise and lots of inconsiderate diners coughing, plus raised shouting, just an absolute joke to come to this place for a relaxed family meal with elderly relatives. You need more staff on than 2 on a midweek night if you want people to be able to come in and be able to sit where they choose IE a totally empty Conservatory, never will brle returning after family spent over £150+ for a non enjoyable crammed, hot and noisy family meal. Change your staff attitude to allowing people to sit where they feel comfortable not force them to sit in an overcrowded dining room after 1st messing booking up and cramming us in. Never again.

Went with sister who is vegetarian. She was struggling to find anything suitable so she asked if they could swap haloumi for normal cheese in a sandwich but the chef wouldnt allow it. To say no to such a small request seemed rediculous. Will be taking my custom elsewhere.

Heard about this place on social media and had to try it! Staff are friendly and welcoming, the pub is bright but still had a traditional feel. We ordered and paid for our drinks and carvery at the bar and despite being told there was a 25 min wait for a table we were taken straight through to the dining area. Our little boy claimed to be starving so we headed straight up to the carvery room next door. Wow, wow, wow is all I can say from my first sight of the carvery. It was huge! So many meats, pies and veggitarian options to choose from! I was actually quite overwhelmed by the sheer size! I eventually made my meat selection and was given a huge portion! Then I was asked how many Yorkshire I'd like! There's a first! Next I moved on to the veg section and again, found myself so spoilt for choice! I've never seen carrots as big, huge long whole carrotts, mangetout, broccoli, I could go on forever! I only went for a medium plate and it was getting heavy by the time I got to the stuffing and gravy! Again, I was so surprised to see that you can help yourself to a full size gravy boat, yep you read that right! We all ended up with pretty huge portions and made our way back to the door way. Here I also found every kind of sauce to go with the lunch, mint sauce, horseradish, apple, etc etc again-wow! The food was delicious but in the end there was just far too much! I was extremely conservative with my portion sizes but still struggled with the enormous amount of meat on my plate! The whole lunch was really really good and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who will listen! Only negative was the cookie dough creme brulee - we saw huge portions of crumbles and delicious looking cheesecakes being served up on other tables but when the brulee arrived it was tiny....it was the only disappointment of the day!

First time today to try the carvery. Very busy to say the least. Queued for at least an hour. Reason was the chef carving the meat was extremely slow. He had no help. Health and safety wasn’t adhered to as kitchen staff squeezing past with hot food trays. The food seemed to be crammed on the serving table. Where the gravy was meant everyone trailed it over the food next to it. Eventually sat down to a lukewarm meal, very dry lamb and pork loin. On the plus side the Yorkshire puds were delicious. I was asked how the meal was which I said meat was very dry and showed her lady replied. Ok I’ll tell them!

What a lovely pub first time here today & we had there Sunday carvery, it was amazing. Very busy spot but you can so see why as the choice on the food counter was amazing. Meatballs, kebabs, so much vegetables, pasta & i have literally never see so much meat ever. The chef was lovely, polite & clean & he kept his cool even with it being very busy. Would be a lovely place to go when the sun is out as its right by the river & the beer garden is huge. One thing that we all noticed was the price of drinks were extremely reasonable & the desserts only £5, we will all be back.

Team lunch here just after Christmas. Everyone was really happy with their food. It was all home cooked, fresh and really tasty, Tuna and warm salad, lasagna, parmo’s and a ciabatta with fries and salad. The desserts were good too, Service was really good and good value. Menu changes mid January, so will be back. Worth a visit, lovely setting and children’s play area. Only one negative, we sat in the lovely conservatory restaurant and it was a bit cold. They did put the heating on as we arrived but it didn’t warm up very quickly.

On arrival the restaurant was very busy and far too warm and noisy. The atmosphere was unrelaxed. We asked if we could sit in the conservatory only to be told "no, it's closed as we only have two staff working". What difference does that make?? It would've been far more pleasant in there and the previous proprietors would have had no issue with this request no matter how many staff were working. Sometimes people are not comfortable being packed in like sardines and this should be taken into account. I have only given this review 3 stars as the food was nice. Obviously the restaurant is regularly busy, so please employ more staff and allow customers to sit where they feel more comfortable.

A couple of nice meals. My cottage pie was delicious, but the fish pie was full of fish, but very dry. It could really have done with a sauce to freshen it up. The landlord keeps a good pint - the black sheep was delicious. Good value for money and good service

Lovely meal, friendly staff, families welcome, small but more than adequate play area for kids. Food was good value even though meals prices have generally increased. Thank you and well recommended
