Five of us visited at lunchtime and chose the basics on the lunch menu - burgers, steaks and fishcakes. All dishes were excellent and the steak was bang on the medium rare requested. Staff were really friendly and efficient and the decor/atmosphere welcoming. The upstairs dining room was not in use when we were there but that looked even nicer..... More

We booked midweek for Saturday evening, but could only get an early table 6pm which was the last table for 2 available. We were seated downstairs close to the bar, and soon the small room was full with diners, which surprised me for an early meal. We found plenty to choose from on the menu, We could have chosen from... More

After eating at the famous Treehouse and leaving a little dissatisfied (though the atmosphere was great) we decided to try The Cow Shed. And we're glad we did. I had a spicy parsnip soup to start with a chunk of bread the size of a small island. I followed with a baked salmon with olives and potatoes and vegetables. This... More

Went on a Saturday evening. On arrival we were promptly seated in the downstairs area of the restaurant. Tables are nicely set out so you are not on top of each other and you can see the kitchen at the far side of the room. The downstairs was cosy with a wood burning fire. The menu was good with also... Such a great variety on the menu and the quality is outstanding. At first I thought the menu pricing was a little steep but after I ate I thought it was under priced for what you get. Steaks are brilliant. Service was class. Not much at all to complain about!

A really nice small restaurant in a very old and quaint building - with a fabulous ceiling upstairs. The welcome was very friendly and the food excellent. They really know how to cook meat, especially steaks, well and the puddings were also excellent. Highly recommended but you will need to book.

On entry to this small but quaint restaurant you are met with a warm friendly welcome and cosy atmosphere. We were given time to browse the menu but quickly served once we'd decided the food looked and tasted fantastic.

My wife and I went for the three course earlybird. First two courses were deelish. But. The rhubarb and ginger sponge pudding which I had was sooooperb. I've had it before and it's the best pudding I've ever tasted. Couple all this with very efficient and genuinely friendly service and you've got one of the best eateries around.

We would not have discovered this excellent restaurant without TripAdvisor. In spite of being in an old and characterful listed building we walked right past it without realising it was a restaurant. You get in at the back. First impression from the menu is that it is a grilled meat specialist. There was only one fish item and one full... More

It is a few years since we ate here for no other reason than it is/was geared to steaks and we aren't big steak fiends! However there was a good varied selection of starters and mains on the specials board and the presentation was also good. With my turn to drive I didn't look at the wine list, although I... More
