Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sadly, it was not to our expectations. Such good reports of how amazing the food was, was very disappointing. The menu on line, is no comparison to the menu offered on the day. My son had baked potato with tuna ect, with no complaint… myself...and other son, because of lack of choice decided to have fried breakfast, thinking you can’t possibly mess this up, but it was disgusting!it was like they had cooked the ingredients in dirty old fat… my son struggled to eat his, where generally he is a good eater and tries to eat mine too. When the barman picked up our finished full plates, he didn’t ask if everything was ok… I had to tell him , the bacon tasted strange as did the fried tomatoes… I would not eat there again, Daisies cafe I would recommend, it’s cheaper and tastier. Come away very disappointed as trip advisor made the bird in hand sound brilliant… I was looking to have a family celebration in the near future, but it won’t be there now. So disappointedMore

We found this place incidentally when googling somewhere to stop on our drive home from Easter holidays. What an absolute find! Incredible Sunday dinner at such a reasonable price! 13.95 for an adult portion which was huge with the most amazing Yorkshires! And £7 for...a child which is so much cheaper than anywhere else we can usually find! And they had brilliant portions too. Staff incredibly attentive, food was delicious. We will stop here on the way home from our next staycation for sure!More

My partner and I absolutely loved the roast dinner! The meat was cooked perfectly, potatoes had a lovely crisp. The staff were very friendly and happy. The pub was very cosy. We will 100% be going back for a roast, very good price for the...quality of food.More

We stayed in the village & decided to try the Sunday roast, which was excellent. Friendly staff & a fairly decent pint of cask ale, which was surprising as non of the bar staff knew how to pull a pint correctly. The only let down...was the poor state of the gents toilets which looked like they don’t get cleaned properly. The sink was disgusting with aged dirt around the taps & back plate.More

We had read the reviews and for an out of the way village pub we didn’t expect anything special when we booked to meet up with some cousins for an evening meal We were wrong. The menu was inviting and the beer was good. There...were 5 of us, 1 vegetarian, 2 venison, 1 lamb rump and a sea bass The meals were all very good especially the venison which was outstanding. I didn’t mention the starters all freshly made and good size helpings We are nearby on holiday in our caravan, we have already been back once and are booked in for lunch again tomorrow These places are rare and this was really good. Friendly staff and plenty of locals using the bar, great atmosphere.More

We selected the Bird in the Hand purely on being half way between the 8 of us having a get together, and they took dogs We couldn't Jane been more pleased. We were welcomed by the young bar man, he was very jolly and tolerant...if us as we faffed around with the tables, took ages to order from the huge menu, changed our minds. Then enjoyed a delicious lunch. We sat around drinking tea until the place closed at 3pm. Thoroughly recommend it.More

Nice pub. Friendly barman and waiter. Food ok. The lamb was beautifully cooked but the sauce was weirdly gelatinous and too much. Nice saute potatoes, but overcooked vegetables. The stilton sauce on the chicken was gorgeous.

It was once a great pub, full every night with good food at great prices now is just a joke! I've been there 3 times recently and been turned away half an hour before closing times and don't get me started bout the disabled access...(that it has none)More

Lovely place to be with friendly bar staff, nice rustic decor, thoroughly enjoyed our drinks at the bar before sitting down to eat. The table was filthy. Our table was set for 7 but when the 4 of us sat down nobody removed the extra...cutlery and wine glasses. We had 2 bottles of white wine, and both times it was served without a cooler, unopened. The staff were all very young and inexperience and there appeared to be a lack of management in the front of house. Our table was never tended to unless food was arriving. All the starters were tasty (prawns, baked camambert, paté). Main courses unfortunately were not - overcooked sea bass served with potatoes that were soggy with oil. Bland chicken dish. Steaks were good though.More

Worst ever service, several staff around totally ignoring us (booked table), had to wait 30 minutes to get served after finally getting the waitresses attention. Had to ask several times for the bill. All staff totally disinterested in serving. Food not too bad although the...steak was tough but the tables were so sticky the cutlery and table mats were stuck to them. Certainly not worth the price, very disappointing.More

We are on holiday in the area and after a short walk from where we were staying, we thought we would have a drink and a bite to eat but when we got there we were told that they were not taking anymore food bookings,...I counted about 3 or 4 other people in the bar (must have been really busy) and no one was eating at the time. We only wanted a sandwich or some bar snacks but was not even offered anything. This is really poor customer service as it's a prime location with passing trade, in this day and age you have cater for anyone. Will not be visiting here again.More

After being out for a long walk with my family, we came across this lovely pub.. However, through out our experience we were not happy, we only just walked in and sat down when a young lad came up too our table and told us...the kitchen has closed, but then changed his mind and said it closes at 2pm and wanted to hurry up when I was already at the bar placing our order. The chap behind the bar was polite and made sure we had everything we needed.. The lady who came up to our table said it was only a roast that was on which was fine with us, we asked if we could have some chips for our little boy who is 4 as he is not a fan on roast dinners, sad to say we were not even aloud to have that, so we decided to get a child's roast. After our meal had arrived the young lad put everything on the table, was not even offered any salt, pepper and sauces.. We then saw the young lad walk past us and stood at the bar, I then asked, do we not get any cutlery which took another 5 mins. He said sorry, but I would of thought cutlery goes onto the table after you have taken our order, being an restaurant manager I would know... Food was getting cold, was not even asked how our meal was.. Just felt very uncomfortable, felt that we were being rushed because the kitchen had to close at 2pm and the young lad kept on watching us, wanted to take our plates even tho our little man had not finished his meal.. But apart from that, lovely bar team, lovely old country pub and very dog friendly.More
