I could give a good review and ignore the many small and not so small issues but at the prices charged this establishment really is not in any way worth the premium price. In both the bar and the restaurant, the staff obviously were not...More

Imagine the clattering of Stagecoach wheels and horses hooves clopping to a halt outside of The George hotel in the centre of the old sandstone town of Stamford. This inn was a main halt on the way from London through to York during the 18th...More

We ate outside in the beautiful gardens. All was serene and gracious. Food was good and the service was enthusiastic and friendly. All I would say is that I have paid less than this in Michelin starred restaurants. I understand that some of the outlay...More

Booked a private room for lunch for 17 ladies for a sophisticated hen lunch celebrations. The staff were incredibly professional and friendly and not pretentious. We ordered from the walk in lunch menu £29.90 for two courses, and within that they included such lovely touches...More

We were very pleased with the ambience and professional service on Thursday May 1oth in the evening. I was disappointed that the Dover Sole priced at £ 39.50 was so lacking in flesh/meat or substance. I had assumed that the reputation of the hotel's restaurant...More

I think that you visit The George for its character rather than the food. Don't get me wrong, the food is ok but I have had better for cheaper. The other gripe I had was that a couple of the tablecloths in the Garden Room...More

Thank you very much for your great comments. We have discussed tea and coffee making facilities in our bedrooms many times but we feel delivering fresh tea and coffee in the morning is more appropriate for a hotel of our standard. Thrilled you enjoyed your...More

Enjoyed a lovely birthday lunch at The George in the super oak panelled restaurant. In these days of the lively ‘kitchen’ restaurants, some would perhaps regard this as a bit fussy but The George seems to have done a good job of retaining some tradition...More

Description
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.
