Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An amazing pub in a beautiful village but … just stopped in for a few drinks and tea . The music playing was loud and heavy rock / metal . Not relaxing or welcoming at all . Normally not like this. Hopefully a one off...!More

We were visiting the area and thought that this pretty village would make a nice lunch stop. We were served poor quality food which was also overpriced, we would not return

I do like this venue. It's a nice atmosphere and the staff are good. However, I had a salad that was average at best. The price was excessive for what I got. Menu- "seafood salad with chilli, prawns and muscles with Bloody Mary dressing." Sounds...lovely doesn't it! The reality- I received a large prawn cocktail with enough ice berg lettuce to sink the Titanic. Chunky cut tomatoes just like you got on Xmas day in 1983. £17.95. What a disappointment. Nostalgic yes, but not what I thought I was getting. That said I'll go back.More

Compared with our previous experiences here, the food and service have deteriorated. Service was achingly slow, even though the dining area wasn't full or especially busy, and sadly, we found the food not as good quality it was on previous occasions.

After trying the Rockingham arms after the recent refurb and had a fantastic meal and service, we thought we would try the George and Dragon. We are a group of ladies who meet up regularly for food aged 50+. We went for lunch on the...17/2/24. We were given a table in what I would call the snug. The drinks arrived but we're not as ordered. We were given Coors lager Shandy in half pint glasses when we had ordered halves of Coors lager. We all had mains. The food was large portions. Majority of the party enjoyed the Food. We were asked if we would like a second round of drinks. We ordered Coors again. This time we were served pints instead of halves as we had had previously. We kept the drinks and shared between the non drivers as we did not want to make a fuss. We then ordered desserts. Once again the dessert order was incorrect. Cream Instead of the requested ice cream. The custard was cold. Again we didn't want to make a fuss. We asked for the bill which came to 196.85. We took our time as we split the bill between us and counted out the money to 197.00. A waitress came over and said we had 10mins as the table was needed as it was booked out. At no point had we been made aware that it was reserved. Other establishments normally put a sign saying reserved for a certain time. We were made to feel that we had outstayed our welcome. We gave her the bill and payment. We were going to leave a tip ,as we would normally do on the table ,but the waitress came back with the 15p change and said with an attitude 'there is your change if you want it that is' I can only assume the attitude of the waitress was because we did not include a service charge when we paid the bill. As mentioned we would have left a tip but due to the attitude of the said waitress we decided not too. Don't think we will be booking the George in the future. Food good, service needs working on.More

Visited with friends and family today for Sunday lunch, having been in the week before and having a good meal. The roast dinner was dreadful - beef as tough as old boots and covered in fat, dry, hard, chicken breasts and stuffing from a packet....Rock solid roast potatoes and a very small selection of vegetables on the plate. Very very poor and certainly won’t be returning.More

Not having been for many years but having moved nearer and now with a dog to take account of, this seemed to be a good option - and so it turned out. Being the Saturday before Christmas, it was really busy but nevertheless a friendly...welcome and our pre-booked table was ready on time plus well located for keeping the family pooch from wanting to get too friendly with the several other well behaved dogs who were also in. A nice menu - with some additions to the typical pub menu. Our choices were: Steak Pie, Venison Burger, Fettucine and Pheasant - with all four being deemed very good. Two people had to drive - so only two alcoholic drinks, those being Acorn Brewery IPA (very pleasant) and Merlot (the latter judged better than a more expensive Merlot at a gastro pub earlier in the week). All in all, very enjoyable and yes - we will be back.More

Wentworth is a lovely village with many places to visit including the wonderful Wentworth Woodhouse stately home. If you go there add to your visit with a meal at the George & Dragon. A lovely pub inside serving a good variety of beers & excellent...food. Our walking group went there for lunch after a walk around Wentworth & Elsecar. There were 10 of us & to help we had pre-ordered. The food was served quickly & was of excellent quality. Staff are very helpful & friendly.More

We have always loved the G&D and being fairly local we often call in for a drink whilst out walking, sometimes eating too. However this occasion felt different. All the tables were reserved and when I asked if there was anywhere to sit the member...of staff asked if I had booked. I replied that we only wanted a drink. There was one high table free near the bar. There were a couple of customers sitting by the door vaping. The manner of the staff wasn’t friendly or welcoming and they were heard to moan to each other about a large party who were in for lunch. A few people walked in looking for a table and one of the staff did remove a couple of the reserved signs. Others were told that they weren’t serving food to walk-in customers until later. Great that they’re fully booked for lunch, everyone needs the business right now, but it is a pub.More

What can I say, 2 degrees outside and I was so cold I had to ask if the heating was on. The reply was you need to sit at 3 certain tables which were occupied so no joy there. I later felt the radiator and...there was hardly any warmth coming from it. Nothing worse than eating in a cold. Middle of winter not good enough. The carpets were grubby and looked like they had been down 40 years. Food was ok,I had the steak pie with chips, more like potato wedges. My husband had the ribeye steak not cheap but it was decent steak, with, once again chips which were more like wedges. All I can say is I won’t be going back I’m not spending £50 to sit in a cold pubMore

We have just dined again at the George & Dragon once again the food was good and the staff friendly, I have read some of the most recent reviews from people and do not quite understand how there experience can differ from ours. This country...pub is not one of the many "PING AND GO " chain of pubs everything is cooked to order and yes you may have to wait a while.More

a party of 12 for lunch we were upstairs they said they would serve drinks to us to save us up and down stairs, but they didn’t so it was several trips to the bar. It took nearly a hour before our order was taken,when...asked what was on the special board , she didn’t know she suggested we went and took a photo of it!! When the food was arriving there was no condiments sauces etc on table , we asked she said she would bring when she had finished bringing all 12 meals This resulted in foods were almost finished before salt etc were brought to us.. These needed to be already on table. She noticed menus were sticking to table and said she would clean table but she didn’t I used my napkin as a place mat Bar staff friendly and efficient Food tasty and well cooke My grandson had a hair in his brownie it was changed but no apology I Recommend you spend time training your serving staff This was a family gathering and it was spoilt by the service,More
