My friend and I popped in here one Friday evening about 5.30pm. We had not booked and when we arrived it was busy but we were seated quickly. We arrived at the right time since a few moments later it was packed out and the...queue was long, The waiting staff were lovely and very friendly but also very efficient. I had the scampi starter and this was massive and really filling. My friend had the prawn cocktail and this also was big and tasty. I had cod and my friend had haddock for main course and both were decent sizes and the batter was cooked well. Chips were perfect and not greasy and the mushy peas and curry sauce tasty. The only “complaint” is the outrageous price of a slice of bread and butter. I do think 50p per slice is a bit high. Other than this it was a fantastic visit and highly recommended.More

Normally good food but ordered vegi curry and came without rice or nan... bit disappointed on this visit..

We are regular visitors to this restaurant & enjoy the food here. On visiting today we were very disappointed by the extremely poor service we received. On arrival we were eventually seated after the lady taking several payment had asked staff to seat us 3...times. We then waited for someone to take our order & eventually I asked a passing waitress if we could order. She took our order & repeated it correctly back to us. We waited patiently for our drinks, which arrived with the food & plonked at one end of the table!! The waiter serving my father in law dropped one of his cod bites on the table & proceeded to pick it up with his fingers & serve it to my father in law!! My husbands meal did not arrive, so I said we are one cod bites meal short. It still did not arrive. I was absolutely flabbergasted that the meal had been served to my father in law & asked him if he wanted me to return it, he said no it was ok. Now if it had been my meal it would have been swiftly returned. Another waitress came over to my husband and said are you a meal short, I replied we were and we had informed staff of this. I was still in a state of shock that the waiter had served my father in law food that had been dropped & put back on the plate with his fingers, so I explained what had happened to this waitress and said I found it totally unacceptable & unprofessional!! She agreed it was unacceptable, apologised & went off to order husbands food & speak to the waiter. By the time it came we had practically finished our meal. I ordered another drink and when this came it was again placed out of my reach at the other end of the table. The waitress did come back & say she had spoken to the manager & we would not be charged for father in laws meal & offered me a free drink. We have never received such poor service at this restaurant and were extremely dissatisfied with our visit today. I have given 2* because the food itself was lovely but service let them down badly!!More

I've been going to Whitbys' both the Doncaster and Rotherham branches for about 8 years. Until today I'd always thought they were good value for money. I called into the Rotherham branch for a takeaway, regular cod, chips and curry sauce. It came to £10.65,...bit more expensive than the last time I called but...cost of living and inflation, so I wasn't unduly concerned. It was only when I opened the box, the fish was at least a third smaller than last time...it was a regular cod, I dread to think how small a small would have been, the chips were around half a scoop, much less than last time, and the curry sauce...they have changed the size of the pots the sauces come in...was about a third smaller. The fish and chips at Whitbys is good, but it's not so outstanding to justify what they now charge. There are other fish and chip shops in Sheffield which sell similar quality food for considerably less, I know of at least three selling near identical portions of near identical quality of around the £7 to £7.50 mark. There are some which are better and which charge less. In my view, for a takeaway, Whitbys are overpriced by about three quid. I won't be returning.More

Absolutely my favourite fish and chip restaurant!!!!! Always great service, beautiful food and very clean and spacious restaurant!!! Love the homemade desserts. Had prawn cocktail starter for the first time this time, it was loaded with prawns and really fresh crispy salad. Thank you, will...definitely be back!!!More

Enjoyable haddock and chips with curry sauce as an extra. Service was great from the chatty and friendly Jolie. Our favourite Fish & Chip restaurant!

Never disappointed with the service and food here. As a disabled person eating out can be a nightmare but with flat access and disabled parking in front of the entrance it's an easy short walk into restaurant were there plenty of tables near the door....It also has a spacious disabled toilet. My sister and I often treat ourselves to lunch here when we go to boundary millMore

We went for dinner to celebrate a special occasion the food did take a little while to come and wonderful and fantastic food .

Popped in on a Sunday, even though it was a bit of a journey, as it seemed to be the only chip shop open in the area for take away fish and chips, and I'm glad I did. The fish was made fresh and was...perfectly cooked with a lovely delicate crisp batter and the chips were lovely and tasty. We bought them in for family and everyone really enjoyed their meal. The shop is nice and clean and the staff are very organised and polite, so it was worth the little bit extra driving to get there.More

Amazing fish and chips. Batter as light and thin as can be. Freshly out the fryer. Perfection in a box. Good value for the amount too. If I'm ever in the area again I'll certainly consider it.

I went for a family meal with a party of 7. Firstly on the positive side the food was fantastic so compliments to the kitchen staff. However we received appalling service from the main restaurant staff. We arrived at 7.30pm, were served swiftly, if anything...questionably fast. At 8.40pm we were informed that last orders would be at 9pm. Approximately ten minutes later were then told the restaurant was closing at 9?! Firstly the issue with this is the signage on the door completely contradicts what closing time/last orders time is versus the website. So this needs some clarity. But most importantly we were made to feel intimidated and rushed into leaving the restaurant by the restaurant staff. Upon six members of our party being rushed out one of our party was left in the toilet while the staff aggressively locked the door in front of us. Surely a security issue and why were the staff more concerned about getting us out of the building rather than checking if a member of the public was still in the building? Absolutely disgraceful attitude towards myself and my family. I work in a customer service environment so would rarely complain unless it is completely justified. This is extremely justified and I hope this incident would be questioned and addressed as an immediate issue/concernMore

Called for takeaway fish and chips on a saturday afternoon - the fish was very poor mostly batter and hardly any fish , definitely frozen, we were very disappointed
