Myself and my partner and another couple had dinner here on Saturday night,food was amazing place is very clean and staff are very welcoming and attentive. 3 of us had the 12oz pork steak which was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone,the puddings...were so good too,I will definitely be back next time I visit Colchester.vMore

Wide choice on the menu with options to adapt; excellent and prompt service. Staff helpful and good-humoured. Not too expensive - very good range of desserts which is becoming hard to find.

Booked at very short notice on a Sunday eve and they fitted us in. A good menu on the website but the black board is even better. Service with cheer and speed. Will go again when in the area.

Had some time to spare in Ardleigh and popped in for lunch ( monday 12pm )- what a lovely welcome and a spotless inviting place. I had the local lamb steak and wife had liver and bacon- both were fantastically seasoned, cooked and presented. Add...to that lovely atmosphere and service plus a couple of cask ales...Amazing !More

Had a delightful meal with friends. Lovely interior. Great service. Good beers for a restaurant. The ladies said the wine was of a good quality too. It was busy and a touch cramped in our part but we’d definitely try it out again.

My wife and I visited the wooden fender for our anniversary and can honestly say that this was the best meal both of us have had for a very long time. The place itself is stunning and in a fantastic location. Every member of staff...were absolutely brilliant!! They were friendly and extremely helpful and the service they provided was excellent. I can’t praise them enough. As for the food!!! Well it was amazing 🤩. It was tasty and more than enough and every coarse was delicious. They do recommend you book and I would agree because even though it was a Thursday lunchtime it was really busy. Thanks so much to everyone and never forget the chefs as the food was delicious.More

Went to Wooden Fender for. Birthday meal, was greeted warmly by the staff, Couldn’t fault any of the food, Everything was superb, and the service was excellent Would highly recommend to anyone.

Absolutely lovely food and super selection of ales. Super portions. You won’t go home hungry. Service excellent. Highly recommended.

Firstly, book as it gets busy. Car Park pretty full, always a god sign, especially midweek. Hanging baskets etc gives you the feeling managers care. My lovely wife’s birthday lunch. Service was excellent, staff always prepared to have a wee chat. Table already laid out...with two menus, normal and special which I like to see. Excellent choice and a varied menu. Quick with the drinks. Table nice and clean; not sticky like some places. Good feel napkins. Food freshly cooked so a little wait, but well worth it. Really nice desserts.
