After a visit to the castle we where looking for one of the oldest pubs in colchester and come to this place. The staff where friendly and cheerful the pub was very nice and the food tasty and resonably priced.

Excellent pub in Colchester. It has history. More importantly great staff, excellent service and good food. I would definitely rate the Purple Dog as the best pub in Colchester.
