I was set to order 3 different vegetarian sides as an entree, but the waiter offered to make a veggie balti with paneer and it was incredibly good. Looking forward to another visit when I'm in town again.

The viceroy review AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. VERY racist staff. Truly and utterly disgusted by my experience and meal at this restaurant. When we entered the restaurant, my family and I were in a very good mood, but our whole day was completely...ruined by our time at this restaurant. First off, we were offered a revoltingly dirty table, and the waiter who had served us said that a kid was sitting there previously and that the floor was dirty, and that it was “okay”. Well, having a dirty table is not okay!! You should be cleaning your tables! That is BASIC HYGIENE - not even related to covid and besides, the table wasn’t “slightly” dirty, it was disgusting, honestly. Only when we asked the waiter to give us another table, he offered us something that we could actually eat at, not that it wasn’t dirty, and the way he gave us that table! He sighed and angrily sprayed the table, as if he was doing us some sort of favour! How rude can you be to customers! And then, we weren’t even told that we had to scan the menus using our phones and we were waiting for 20 minutes for someone to give us a menu, and no one came up to our table asking us what we would like. After a while, we ourselves had to ask a waiter to come to our table, and only then did someone bother to tell us that we had to scan menus with our smartphones. And the menu! Where do I begin? The menu had absolutely no vegetarian options except 2 or 3 as side dishes. This is completely unfair, you should be able to serve to all types of customers. I’m sure there would be nothing available for vegans. When we asked a waiter, he was extremely rude, and told us that we could “take out” the chicken from the curry and make it as a veg curry. The way he talked to us, he made us feel like we were stupid for being vegetarians. I’m sorry, we are vegetarian - and I refuse to eat curry that had meat in it at one point! I think that it is utterly ridiculous to even say that to someone. I’m sure fellow vegetarians will be disgusted by even reading this. The waiter then told us he would come later to take our order, but he never came! Finally, the only kind waiter in the restaurant, Jamal, came up to us and asked to take our order. When the rude waiter, who had served us before, came to give the plates and food to us, he simply threw the items on the table, and mumbled some random things to us, which I couldn’t even hear properly. And to think about it, all of the waiters except Jamal were unkind to us, and treated us unfairly because we were the only coloured people in the restaurant. They were friendly to everyone in the restaurant but us, because the reasons are obvious. I have never seen such revolting, disgusting and racist behaviour in my life!! and they were showing us such arrogance, as if they were some kind of kings. Even the food wasn’t good - the chapattis were RAW, and were in a state where they were not even edible, and the curries were flavourless. To add on to the bad service, the waiters asked every table but ours if the food was good, and simply ignored us. When we went to tell Jamal about our bad experience at the restaurant, he was calm and he was asking us what had gone wrong, until the rude waiter came and butted into the conversation, by making a sarcastic comment about the menus, and that we “should have read the signs”. He proceeded to shout aggressively at me and my wife, and started making rude signs as if we were talking rubbish!! How can you be so rude to a customer! We paid our bill and left the restaurant(£30, by the ways, not in the slightest worth it), angered by the disgusting, racist treatment we had received. I don’t think that I have ever been treated this badly because of my skin colour in my life and I am truly and utterly disgusted with the racist behaviour towards us. I strongly condemn this kind of behaviour be it any industry especially hospitality industry. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. If you have received this same treatment, you should complain about your experience to the council, as I am going to do. The behaviour of the staff at this restaurant was completely unacceptable. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. MOST RACIST PEOPLE I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE.More

We were a party of 14, staying at Gretna Green for a wedding. We selected the Viceroy as it was relatively close by and had excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is on the first floor but they accommodated our party without any...problems including providing wheelchair access access via a lift in their takeaway section. The service was first rate and all the staff were very friendly. They even presented the bride and groom to be with a bottle of complimentary wine on departure. The food was excellent and everyone said it was one of the best Indians they had ever tasted. The bill was also very reasonableMore

The strong point of this restaurant is the service. They were all very helpful and pleasant and the starter and main courses that I ordered were served in reasonable time and at a fair price. The bhuna prawn puri was very nice indeed and the...pint of draught cobra hit the right spot on a very warm day. The only reason that I don’t give the restaurant 5 stars is that my chicken jalfraizi was more like a dupiaza with lots of onions and not so many chillis or peppers. The chicken was very tender however and I fully appreciate that each individual restaurant prepares this meal in a slightly different way. I would certainly be happy to visit again when next in the area.More

Food was ok. Cleanliness was poor so if you’re worried about COVID, I’d stay away. Under the table was covered in food presumably from the previous people. One of the waiters was not wearing his mask properly (was wearing it as if COVID came from...his chin) and they wore the same dirty gloves the entire time, which makes the gloves pointless. I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.More
