Took my children for dinner as a half term treat and what a treat it was! We were warmly welcomed by a lovely gentleman who went above & beyond to make sure we had everything we needed even accommodating a last minute order change for one of the children. The food was delicious and the portions were generous to say the least ( we struggled to eat it all). The staff were very helpful & friendly and the atmosphere was great. The prices are very reasonable and the children especially liked that they got a lollipop each to take home.
We would highly recommend a visit and will most definitely be back again ourselves soon!

We were absolutely over the moon to have found this restaurant (only 300m from our accommodation).
The host is amusing, friendly, welcoming and helpful. Service is attentive but relaxed.
The Italian food was better than we got in Rome or Tuscany!
We had Lasagne and seafood risotto and both were delicious. We followed the advice of another reviewer and had the homemade chips - have them! They are so chunky and so crispy.
Excellent value with two glasses of wine and the tip that we added it only came to £50.
The style is of being in a little trattoria in Italy and the ambience is lively, joyous and happy.
Highly recommended

Visited foe dinner with friends who had been before. I had the risotto di mare, which was lovely flavours, though the calamari was overdone and unchewable. We shared a caramel brownie for dessert, which was lovely, but with canned whipped cream and cheap chocolate sauce drizzle which took away from the flavour and experience.
I found the place too loud for having a conversation, with music blaring very loud and poor acoustics.
The staff were friendly and responsive.

As the great Pavarotti once said “We must devote our attention to eating” but unfortunately at this restaurant you learn extremely quickly, that you want to devote your attention to the exit.
The food has got to be the most bland, boring and underwhelming food that I regretfully had the displeasure to eat.
Seriously, Carbonara was just some 30p pasta with sauce (that tasted from a jar) stirred through it with about 5 crumbs of bacon plonked on the top - BON APETIT! - I was charged nearly £9 for it! This nightmare must of cost 50p to conjure up and it tasted of literally nothing! I could of made a much better carbonara myself. Perfect for the bin!
Amid the collective groans and sour gulps, my friends weren’t enjoying their meals either. A montage of miserable food, moody teenage waitresses and an owner with an attitude problem, add to the air of melancholy surrounding the dated restaurant and two slithers of “lobster” that looked and tasted like two rubber insoles. Yuck!
Furthermore, supposedly (they didn’t work) battery-powered lanterns are randomly scattered on the table to provide a feeling of mishap and glum to your already unexciting and mundane experience.
I doubt I’ll ever go back.
They need to seriously up their game.

Great visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was excellent throughout and the staff were so friendly, we had a great experience, thank you.
Would en great if you could add a draught beer or serve beer in a big bottle. A small bottle of 330ml beer doesn't last long and is not great value for money compared to a pint or big bottle and it would be less work for your waiters as they wouldn't be bothered as much for refills.
Keep up the great work on every other front and see you again!

Me and my husband from Newcastle had a little last minute break in Carlisle, stumbled across Gianni’s… OMG, from walking through the door was fantastic, the staff are so welcoming and friendly and made us feel like royalty from Newcastle..
For the starters we had bruschetta Fungi and Cozze marinara, very tasteful and full of juiciness and flavor.
The main course I again opted for a seafood dish, Di Mare Risotti, full of, prawns, mussels, calamari, clams
….first time having this and wasn’t disappointed.
My husband chose The Chicken Gianni, which was pan fried chicken, mushrooms, bacon, smoked cheese in a garlic and wine sauce, like me it went down a treat.
All we can say is, we would definitely do a round trip of 140 miles to eat there again.
Outstanding

We stopped over in Carlisle and found this unexpected gem, Gianni’s. We had a fab time listening to the music and enjoying the eclectic decor. We were so pleased the food was fabulous, I chose Verdi pizza which was packed with vegetables artichoke hearts plentiful ! Partner chose spaghetti Marinara extremely nice. We were lucky walk ins because it was busy and deservedly so.

These must be the friendliest restauranters in Carlisle. They were clearly busy when we arrived asking for a table for two; but went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The starters: a mushroom bruchetta and goats cheese with tomato sauce, were excellent; but unfortunately we were both underwhelmed by the mains, which were average. My tagilatelli sauce had been microwaved(scolding) and just didn't taste of anything; while the chicken in the dish was dry and overcooked. My wife's main was similarly bland.
I am dissapointed to leave this review as the owners are great and perhaps it was due to the fact they were so busy. Perhaps we will give them another try; I'm not sure; as there are at least two other Italians in Carlisle who are consitently very, very good.

We were so happy that Gianni's had space for us after we hiked into Carlisle late in the afternoon. Alessandro was a great waiter who took a lot of trouble to ensure I chose dairy-free options and could enjoy my meal with confidence. The atmosphere was buzzing, with the staff greeting many customers as regulars. They’re working hard to keep the place COVID-safe and there are screens between tables. Our food was delicious and served quickly despite e kitchen being busy also preparing take-out meals. I highly recommend this place.

We went here just as restaurants were opening up after lockdown. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. It also felt very safe with Perspex screens between each table. We ordered far too much food and when we told the waitress we were full, she packed the leftovers in takeaway boxes for us. Great service.
The only reason it didn’t get a 5 is because I ordered the tomato and cream pasta and it didn’t seem to have much cream or salmon. I was really looking forward to a creamy dish.
Anyway, we will definitely go again. Loads of food, wine and vodka for £50!

We visited last night (Thursday 12 May) as a family, with three grown up children.
We had garlic bread with cheese and tomato to start, and bolognese, carbonara, and a spicy bacon and pasta dish.
All tasted lovely, the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed.
We will be back

We visited by chance during a overnight stay in Carlisle, what a little hidden gem!
I’ve worked in Italian restaurants and visited many over the years but the pasta we had (cannelloni & tortellini) was by far the nicest we have had in years! Freshly prepared, perfect portion size and cooked to perfection. The house red was also very nice. The children’s pizza & chips was also great, real chips, cooked perfectly. The staff are friendly and attentive. For me, the best part of our day :-)

We were returning to Gianni's having had a lovely meal here last time we visited Carlisle. We booked a table for 7pm the night before. We were seated upstairs next to another couple with a clear plastic panel between us, so felt safe. We ate our starter, which was delicious and were just starting our equally delicious main courses when a large and very boisterous group of young men turned up to fill the rest of the area. They were all very good natured, but also very loud and no social distancing or mask wearing was happening. If we had informed when we booked that this party was booked in we would have booked for earlier and enjoyed our meal in peace. As it was we felt uncomfortable and ate up and left without pudding! I appreciate that a big group of boozy lads is good thing for the takings of the restaurant, and don't begrudge them their night out in anyway. I just wish we'd been given the option to avoid them!
