Easily one of the best chippies in Carlisle if not Cumbria well worth a trip out, or delivery if you don’t want to get off the sofa.
Found this place whilst scrolling the Internet for a chip shop nearby. The reviews said the best in the area so decided to give it a go and we were not disappointed. A queue out the door either means slow service or great food and...it proved to be the latter. Fish n chips, battered haggis and smokie were all well received and enjoyed.More
I have been a regular patron over many years .and always order cod chips. But on sat 5/11/22 i found out they only fry small cod it looked alright but when i came to eat my meal the cod was 90% BATTER ...UNeatable cost 7.70...complete waste of my money.More
Always excellent! Beautiful fresh cod in amazing batter. Even the bread rolls are super fresh. Nice staff.. My first visit was about 30 years ago consistently excellent!
Always great service and food. In my opinion, this is a great place to stop and takeaway food for an evening meal.
Stop off on way to Dorset from visiting family in Scotland. Was hungry, and got fish n chips from Fontanas. Got small portion, which was plenty, tasted delicious. Staff seemed very helpful and friendly.
Had Fish and chips. I had great service from the staff and the food was great too. I will definitively visit again to and from my travels to Scotland
With restaurants closed and away on business, just enjoyed the most amazing chicken pie. Packed full of big chunks of breast meat.
Had an amazing fish supper today, all food hot & beautifully cooked. All staff extremely pleasant, she even apologised to me for having to ask me to repeat my order, she explained that during these times when people are wearing masks, that sometimes they need...to clarify what they are ordering to make sure they get it right. The staff are working so hard & following all government guidelines. It was a pleasure to visit & feel safe.More
Came in on a moderately busy evening to pick up some fish for tea. I came up to the counter to order my food and was confronted by a server (orange hair), that felt it necessary to aggressively scream at me from her side of...the counter in front of many other customers because she could not hear what I had asked to order. I politely tried to repeat what I was saying 3 times, but the noise around me was very loud. The food here is great, it always has been and we enjoyed our fish. Just please, in the times that we live in, at least be polite. It's such a shame that the server felt the need to behave so poorly. It shows disrespect to the customer, but also to the business.More
Stumbled across this fish n chip shop by chance. There was a large queue outside and I can see why - fantastic. High quality fish n chips and the best curry sauce I have ever had! I really like how they list where all their...ingredients come from! The premises are set out well to ensure social distancing, I felt very comfortable during the visit.More
Delicious fish and chips - crispy and tasty. Efficient service. Would definitely get them again - maybe tonight! Popular - be prepared to queue for a few mins outside but they are worth the wait.
We found Fontana's by simply searching "fish and chips Carlisle". When we arrived, there were five or six people, all responsibly socially distanced outside the shop, and another four customers inside. There are two doors, one for entry and one to leave after being served, so...that clients don’t have to walk past each other while still on the premises. The Small Fish and Chips is reasonably priced at £5.20 and includes a sauce or a portion of mushy peas. The meals are beautifully fried and delicious. The staff were friendly and pleasant and if we’re ever in Carlisle again, we will be going back to Fontana'sMore
Staff work hard, are polite and smile--surprisingly few staff do in most shops--easy queuing system-fish and chips can be made to order and fish was huge-fresh-as were the chips--in fact it was such a good portion size one portion feeds the both of us--great value...and by far the best in Cumbria--Up there with Bryans in Headingley or the original Harrys Ramsdums in Menston--thanks for your great restaurantMore
