The Ibex Inn is a cosy 18th century Gastro pub that is absolutely oozing with character, this beautiful and historic public house is situated in the tranquil countryside of Chaddleworth village, a convenient 12-minute drive from Newbury and 14 mins from the M4. The Ibex has been recognised for winning awards including West Berkshire CAMRA Community pub. I decided to go local and organise my best friends baby shower at the Ibex. It is already well known for their amazing quality food and atmosphere but gosh did they go above and beyond!
I asked for a brunch with a mocktail per person and gosh they blew it out of the water.
The food: Absolutely amazing, no surprise there - the quality and amount were just so so good! I couldn't believe how much food was served and the variety as well! We were served a welcome drink each plus our mocktail which just added so much more to the experience for everything. They were so delicious, I had to ask how it was made!
The pub: I was allowed in early to decorate how I wanted, we discussed in advance what I could use to attach the decorations to the walls and ceilings but nothing was too big of an ask when talking with Nathan!
We had constant communication starting with a general chat about the event and booking it in, to the organising and executing!
The Ibex made my friends baby shower/brunch the best it could have been and I highly recommend them for anyone who are thinking of planning an event who want amazing food and a quality experience!

This pub has a nice, country feel to it. Nestled in a pretty village, it appears to be a bit of a ‘best kept secret.’
It’s not professing to be ‘posh’, but is absolutely better than an average village pub that serves food.
In some ways, the tables and chairs, and the decor looks a bit basic and outdated; but, the food completely makes up for that and it also has benches outside, which in good weather, is a boon.
The owner is very passionate about the pub having a friendly feel to it and for people to feel welcome. The staff are approachable, personable and knowledgeable, and have a nice balance of attentiveness vs giving one time to enjoy the ambience.
The food sits at a price point that nods to quality, but that doesn’t price some people out of affording to eat there.
The food is delicious, carefully and ethically sourced, and the menu has interesting choices.
They seem to have quite a following and are well known in the area.
The roasts are some of the best you will have; the meat particularly standing out. Well cooked, as well as being very tasty cuts.
Would recommend this pub for families or couples; and seems to be popular too for just popping in for a pint. They have an extensive wine list too, with many glass-priced options, too.
Very nice owners, who go out of their way to be friendly and welcoming and want to create an above average experience for their punters. Definitely worth a visit!

Localw perfect for spending a weekend away from the stress of the city. A stone’s throw from Oxford and just an hour from London, the pub offers guests the opportunity to choose dishes from a menu that is not too extensive but certainly very high quality. Traditional dishes (e.g. Pie of the day) meet creative cuisine (e.g. Crispy pork salad) in a perfect way made by the hands of a chef who could be one of the best in the region. Sincere and well-groomed gastronomic proposal. Definitely worth a visit.
The property offers the opportunity to stay overnight which I Recommendation because breakfast alone is worth the trip.

Decent food - the male who was serving seemed to be constantly watching us which made us feel pressured to eat faster which was not enjoyable…
After our meal we headed out to the garden which was lovely apart from the amount of dog poo… we understand it’s a dog friendly pub but equally not great when children are playing. When addressed to staff we were told that it wasn’t his dog so why should he pick it up. Very unprofessional and rude. Maybe they could have poo bags or at least pick it up before they open…

We were at The Ibex for a Christmas meal when my daughter fell ill. The Ibex were so accommodating in boxing up our mains for us which were delicious even when we got home 30 minutes later.
We will be returning again to enjoy The Ibex properly in the new year but tonight the food was delicious and the service was above and beyond. Thank you.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch on Thursday. Started by sharing the baked camembert with crusty bread - magnificent!
we then both had the rib eye steak cooked to our liking and beautifully tender, accompanied by a field mushroom, vine tomatoes and chips. all perfect and piping hot.
A very pleasant lunch and the pub was nice and warm

Probably one of the best pub lunches I’ve had. Great genuine pub atmosphere. The venison steak was cooked superbly and the dauphinois potatoes and red cabbage completed the venison perfectly. I’ve been to several restaurants in the local area and this is easily the best food, value and atmosphere!

What a fabulous find this place is. Friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and the food is exceptional. And I really do mean exceptional. The pies are actually made on premises and are packed to the brim with meat. None of your puff pastry lids floating on a sea of gravy here. The chateaubriand, cooked to perfection, was the best I've had anywhere. The vegetables were delicious. Stayed in the Desert Orchid room which has a large, very comfortable bed. The pictures tell you everything you need.(Recommended).
We'll be coming back again soon, for sure.

Spur of the moment visit for lunch, following a very heavy schedule at the weekend. I had visited before, but this was the first time for my wife, who, for medical reasons, has to be selective with what she eats.
Wow!, was her reaction to the food. She ate tiger prawns in garlic and paprika butter with warm ciabatta, followed by whole baked Camembert. Both were rated superb! I, too loved the tiger prawns followed by home made steak & ale pie. We both had lovely deserts (although we didn’t need them!)
Food was of the highest quality and the service we received from the lovely Annabel, was warm, friendly and efficient. Huge compliments to the chef also.
Overall, our new destination eatery, for quality, quantity and value for money.

We visited here for a weekday lunch some time ago and so enjoyed it that we decided to return to sample their Sunday roast. And we were very glad we made that decision.
My partner usually cooks a fantastic Sunday roast which sets a very high standard but we were far from disappointed.
We started with the devilled kidneys as it's quite rare to find on a menu and they were just perfect. Then we had the roast, the beef being cooked just as she wanted it (rare) and my pork very equally tender.
From start to finish the service was excellent and the price very reasonable for these times.
The Ibex is off the beaten track but it's definitely worth the journey.

The Ibex is absolutely fabulous. We stayed 4 nights and it was just perfect. The room was spacious and very clean with everything you would want. The bathroom was perfect and very clean. The heating was great and easily adjusted. Breakfast was the best my wife and I ever had. There was a good choice but whatever you wanted the chef just made it to order. The staff were very friendly and chatty. Nothing was too much bother. Definitely stay again when in the area. The restaurant was perfect for lunch and dinner again with a great choice. A real gem to find.

Set in rural West Berkshire, this busy pub offers a good menu choice, served by enthusiastic staff. The bar also has a good selection of beer, including the locally brewed beer. Enjoy a Sunday Roast and finished with Sticky Toffee Pudding or Apple Tarte-Tatin. Be sure to book a table, or you might not get a table

The Ibex Inn is in the smallest most remote Berkshire hamlet and still delivers a great service and quality food with lively interactive service. Fay I shall mention, great repartee and humour whilst serving well. We had Devilled Kidneys, King Prawns in Garlic and Mixed Seafood Risotto. Fab food and good portions. I like a good espresso to finish a meal, often disappointed, but not here. Was it the young Italian waitress who knew her stuff? Probably

Popped in on the off chance & pub was busy, which is great to see. Immediately told we may have wait for food, due to a large party. Food arrived much earlier than expected & the shared Camembert, crispy pork salad & pea, broadbean & asparagus risotto was delicious. Fantastic experience *****
