They amwere welcoming and polite. The mixed grill was delicious and there was a lot of it. There was a nan bread with the grill. We had tap water. We were served poppadoms with 2 dips, spiced onion and lime chutney. The mixed grill was a very reasonable price at £18.95 and the poppadoms enough for 4 people was £7.95

After arriving in Luton for the second time in 18month I decided to go and explore. I was in the need of a curry fix and consulted trip advisor. Much to my delight Jay Raj Indian Cuisine was listed as a travellers choice so my mind was made as it was close to my hotel Hilton Gardener - Luton)
Night 1:
I entered the establishment alone as I was working away and was greeted by a very polite front of house. I was seated and immediately asked if I would like drinks and popadoms. I ordered x2 popadoms and a large bottle of Tiger. The Popadoms arrived with a pickle tray consisting of mango chutney, onion and cucumber salad, pickled lime and a pink coconut crumb (not sure of the name).this was a great start to my meal and of course the tiger lager is always a good choice. For my main I was torn between the Chicken Shashlick and the Jayraj Soecisl Lamb. I decided on the Shashlick as I had seen on server to a near table and it looked amazing. It arrived on a sizzle plate ando did not disappoint. I also ordered Garlic Naan bread which was fresh and cooked to perfection. After eating my meal I received. Warm hand towel and after eights when I asked for the bill. The meal was beautiful.
Night 2:
The following week I revisited Jay Rag and this time decided against the starter as I wasn’t feeling as hungry after a large lunch and this time went for then Jayraj Lajawab. I also had this with a Garlic Naan bread and it was just the right amount of food. The curry was sweet, tangy and slightly spiced, I was asked if I would like it hot or medium. I went four medium but it was mild to my taste buds but very delicious.
All in all I really enjoyed both visits to Jay Raj and will defiantly go back and try Tandoori Mixed Grill should the opportunity arise.

I have been coming to Jay Raj for over 15 years. Remarkably, it has been consistent even if my visits have been sometimes interspersed by several years. Fresh, flavourful food at a good price and often with remarkably friendly service. Tonight Raj was kind enough to tell me about the history of different curries and to personalise a naga madras for my tastes . Clean, friendly and delicious. What more to say.

Firstly I have to say we have been cooking for over 20 years and have never had a bad experience… until last night! Came as a group to celebrate a birthday and the service and atmosphere felt really off to the point that at times interactions felt rude. Surprise cake was brought in and yet 2 waiters came over and said ‘let us know when you want your cake’…. Cake eventually brought out in the cellphone, candles not even placed in or lit just placed down and told happy birthday…. Super awkward. We ended up paying the bill and leaving without anymore drinks. Even ordering the food was difficult and really didn’t feel anything like any other time we have been. After a long wait for the main courses I must say the food was lovely but sadly it wasn’t the celebration we were looking forward to or expecting.
Maybe this just isn’t the best venue for special occasions or celebrations.

Oh dear, clearly the takeaway business blooms on a Saturday night ! We were on time , table booked but not ready when we arrived and 20 mins later got seated. Sorry to the people who were on a table for 2 as we seated waiting.
I no this can happen and ok with it normally but …..when we did get seated
The food was mediocre at best , the waiters were not attentive and the collections were the priority over seated customers. The bill came with a push on Google review. I do not write reviews generally as I’m old and come from an age where I’m respectful.
It was my birthday , not told to them .
I am minded that we have been before , many times BUT they need to treat sit down customers with respect , after all we have chosen to be there and spend money..
With regard to food quality Masterchef is better if you want a takeaway!

I have eaten in this Restaurant for quite a few years but, haven’t been recently!
We decided to have a delivery … it’s Monday night in February and all I can think is that the Chef has had the night off and left the waiters & the delivery drivers to cook !!!
The order was delivered well over an hour after ordering. The delivery driver stayed in his car expecting us to go to him to collect our food !!
Most of the order was awful , 1 main item missing ! The curries seemed watered down , the onion bhajee was just a desiccated mess and we eventually ended up putting the food in the bin !!!

Very disappointing, one guests food was very salty, another had an upset tummy all night afterwards. The service we found quite rude with a waiter butting in whilst we were talking. The wine was just dumped on the table not even opened for us and overall not quite the evening out we've grown to expect there over the years. There were only 3 or 4 tables occupied so it wasn't even as tho they were busy. We will not be going back.

Placed an online order at 16:55 for delivery at 18:00. Restaurant opened at 17:00
Food still hadn’t arrived at 18:15 so telephoned only to be met with the usual driver on his way, he’s already left, he won’t be long.
At 18:30 I still hadn’t had my food delivery so I telephoned back again, Oh Hi ma’am he left ten minutes ago, funny that as you said he’d already left when I called at 18:15!
Called again at 18:40 by this time I’m standing in the road awaiting said delivery driver explaining to the restaurant he’s still not here! Finally at 18:45 said delivery driver arrives with said food costing £47.24 which is now just Luke warm and the whole bag is swimming in my food at the bottom of the bag.
This is totally unacceptable all I got was a sorry nothing else. Sick to death of people lying through their back teeth with pathetic excuses.
I used to eat here a lot but never again will my money go into their pockets!

The food took time to come but it was definitely worth the wait, everything was cooked to perfection and was beautifully tasty! Would definitely recommend
All waiters were lovely. We were greeted by an exceedingly friendly member of staff who recommended the poppadoms and it was great!

Everything is good and tasty. We have ordered mixed starter, jayraj special lamb, Dal masala, chilli naan and cheese naan. We got 3 or 4 small pieces of mixed meat in mixed starter which is too less in quantity. I would not recommend to order mixed starter unless they serve in good quantity. I would like to say again that taste is good and staff is friendly.

This is easily one of the best places in Luton , the service here is the best service I’ve ever had . They ask repetitive times for assurance , they allow you to take your time and they ask how long from the starter and main you want to eat . You feel peaceful and comfortable and even when busy , it doesn’t seem like they are trying to push you out.
The food here is great ! Great flavours and spice , great naan, delicious starters and the 10/10 customer service tops it off.
Don’t be discouraged by the visuals of the restaurant, the vibes are great here and so is the food and the customer service . One of the greatest places in Luton . Well Done ! 10/10 !

Great food and very friendly service. Staff is friendly and you feel at home. I like Indian food and the food here is authentic. Moreover it is tasty as you can see many locals eat here. I have been here before and over time the food and service remain the same, top quality. I can strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who has a taste for Indian/Bengali dishes.

Mid week visit, only three or four tables in use. Service quite prompt and friendly but a long wait for our food.
Aware of a table further down chatting quite loudly that their food was much hotter than they expected.
Suddenly the penny dropped, they had our food.
Summoned a waiter‘you’ve given them our meal haven’t you?
Err yes but it wasn’t my fault. Further long wait, no apology nothing.
Will not return.

Really lovely service with really lovely food. Sure impressed at them being able to sit us as a walk in. I fully recommend coming here if you are in the area. No car park at this restaurant but a free car park can be found at the local Co op

Two of us visited the Jay Ray midweek, the service and food was excellent. If I could offer one suggestion it would be that the plates were warmer, nothing ruins good food better than cold plates. We'll visit again.
