I like balance in a pub, and The Shepherds since reopening has quickly captured the essence of a village pub, but with an amazing quality restaurant set privately to the side of it. This is great for several reasons, firstly the renovation has seen the return of a cosy roaring fire place and tasteful modern decor without losing the feel of a local pub. The bar offers excellent guest ales all sourced within a 15 mile radius and a bar menu that caters for those wanting an excellent quality burger or fish and chips in the bar area. The restaurant food in my opinion is on a par with the Three Acres, yes you pay a little more for high quality food but it is worth every penny. They also have mid week early bird offers which makes the restaurant accessible for all budgets. The staff are all chatty and welcoming without being intrusive which adds to the friendly atmosphere of the pub. The balance lies in the fact that you could go in on your own and enjoy great company and beer with a light well priced bite, or you can take your loved ones for a family meal in a very high quality restaurant. A must try pub for anyone and everyone.

You feel very welcome when you arrive at the pub and it has a new log fireplace which adds to the atmosphere. I love a GnT and the selection of different flavours and tonics is fantastic. I have eaten in the bar from the light bites menu and my demands for gravy with the beef sandwich were met with a smile! I like that there is a cosy bar area and good price bar menu as well as a fantastic restaurant serving superb meals. They also do diet mixers which for those of us on our January diets is much appreciated! Families and dogs are welcome but no dogs in the restaurant so you still have the option for a meal in private. All the staff are smiling which is a rare thing in a lot of pubs, it is these little things that make up an overall wonderful experience. They also have fizz Fridays where a cheap bottle of prosecco is on offer which is always a great start to the weekend. The Wednesday night quiz is also fantastic. A must visit pub for high quality food and socialising.

Myself, my wife and our 3 children went here the day after Boris announced the latest lockdown. Our arrival was welcomed by a smile from the young lady behind the bar who took us through the very clean and friendly bar to the restaurant. Sat in the beautifully decorated restaurant we were immediately served drinks by a very pleasant lady (who i assume was the owner) and given our menus. The food looked delicious on the menus and when it started to arrive it didn't disappoint. 4 of us had roast beef which was fantastic, my 10 year old daughter asked me why can't I make it that good. Even now a week after she has asked when can we go back. My 11 year old son had salmon and said he wished he'd ordered an adults portion it was that good. My 13 year old son never spoke as he demolished his adult portion of roast beef. All the kids & me had puddings, all home made and excellent. £98 for 3 starters, 5 mains and 4 puddings, a couple of drinks each (including beer and wine) was outstanding value for the quality of food we had. I would recommend anyone to try the Shepherds. We will certainly be back.

We stopped at The Shepherds Arms after passing through Peak District, where we were welcome to park our campervan in the CCTV monitored car park over night. The pub itself is situated on a quiet road on top of a hill, near a beautiful view point of Huddersfield. The 200 year old pub has been recently refurbished and has a quirky modern vibe, it's extremely cosy! We enjoyed some fresh beers on tap (which were great value at just £3.40 a pint of Coors) and treated ourselves from the extensive exciting menu to a Sirloin Steak, see for yourself, it tasted even better than it looks! We were checked in on by the chef after receiving our meal, who was very lovely and we weren't supposed to discover he had worked with Gordon Ramsey trained chefs. Rachael is the landlady of the pub since 2019 and is super friendly and happy to accommodate you. We visited during outdoor only covid restrictions but cannot wait to return when we can enjoy the inside too! 100% recommend drinking and dining here and if you're campervanning like us, give her a call and she'll be more than happy to allocate you a safe and quiet overnight parking space!

Booked for Steak Night last Thursday and we were not disappointed. This was the first meal out we have had since lock-down and it was fabulous. The steak was cooked to exactly as asked and it was worth paying an extra £1.50 for the hand cut chips. Also had dessert of Parking with custard and ice cream and my husband had cheesecake, both were fantastic. Would definitely recommend as its such a lovely pub and restaurant. All the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble especially with the new hygiene rules in place.

We used to be regulars at the Shepherd's years ago. Our visits diminished, but after our first visit since the refurbishment we will be back more regularly. The pub has been renovated to a very high standard including a lovely modern log fire. There's a decent selection of real ale and lagers along with gins and spirits. The Farmers blonde ale was delicious. Friday night has a great offer of a bottle of prosecco for £10 at the minute. In the restaurant we opted for the early bird menu at £20 for 3 hours. The starters main course and desserts were all excellent. We opted for the beef medallions at an extra cost, and it was well worth it. The quality of the food and service was second to none. The restaurant has also been renovated, and is a much more modern and pleasant environment than the old Shepherd's. This is a hidden gem, and once more people discover it, or in our case rediscover it, the pub and restaurant will go from strength to strength.

We had a delicious dinner last night with friends. The menu was small but interesting with vegetarian options for both starter and main. The bahji and salmon and seafood starters were both amazing. We had a pork dish with black pudding bon bons and steak with peppercorn sauce, both were delicious and cooked to perfection. Big shout out to the chef who prepared an interesting menu and fabulous food and to the waitress who was attentive and chatty. Together they created a wonderful ambience. Would definitely recommend.

We have visited the Shepards Arms on two occasions now since it switched hands. Firstly the decor is lovely, very nicely done out. The first visit we had the Lamb and the Pork and both were outstanding. We would honestly say the best meals we've had out in a long time. The second visit we went on a Thursday night for the steak night, which is two steaks and a bottle of wine for £30. Again the food was top quality and the £30 offer is great value for money. We will definitely be visiting again.

Had food here having boycotted the place for approx 18 months due to hostile management, I can heartily recommend the new style Sheps from staff to service, welcome and management. Had a delightful lunch with my friend too and our pooch sat nicely under the table, as do all the well behaved dogs that visit here do so please disregard any negativity around dogs being welcomed here. Rachel not only opens her pub and her arms to her friends but also to the vast array of dogwalkers and passing trade. Will be eating here again for sure as well as frequenting during the week to enjoy the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere.

If you’re wanting to eat out at a lovely pub with nice food I fully recommend the Shepherds Arms. The pub itself is very modern and stylishly decorated, the staff are very friendly, there’s parking and the way they have dealt with the covid-19 pandemic was spot on. There’s a one way system, hand gel, table service, tables are always been cleaned when someone leaves, they take names and numbers on arrival and well spaced out. The food is delicious, very well presented and tasty, the steak was perfectly cooked and the soup has so much flavour. Overall a lovely visit every time me and my boyfriend go.

A friend of ours recommended The Shepherds Arms and also mentioned that the chef is no other than Richard who was Head Chef at Brooks in Brighouse for many years. On hearing this news we booked immediately as Richard is, without doubt, an amazing chef, probably one of the best in Yorkshire and beyond. We arrived to a warm welcome from a young and enthusiastic team and noticed immediately that the pub has a fresh and modern decor with a nice atmosphere. We were taken through to the Restaurant which follows the same modern lines as the bar area. Everything on the menu looked wonderful and ultimately my wife opted for Pie of the Day and I had the Fillet Steak in Red Wine. Both dishes can only be described as divine complimented by a nice bottle of wine. We guessed it would be good here but didn't realise just how good. So there you have it, a delightful pub and restaurant with wonderful food, a lovely place to be. We will definitely return. Thankyou for a superb evening.

My family and I visited the shepherds for an evening meal, on arrival the staff made us extremely welcome and due to vivid 19 their were excellent hygiene practices in place , hand sanitizing tables, and exceptional social distancing measures which made us feel very safe and reasdured. I chose the homemade fish and chips of which were absolutely delucious, the batter was light and crispy and the fish was cooked to perfection, everything was fresh which reflected in the taste. The staff were very attentive and friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. A wonderful dining experience and we will be returning

The Shepherds has been my local for quite sometime but towards the end of its previous management It became a place i didn't frequent. Now it has had a change of management and a total revamp the place is amazing. The clientele are diverse and everyone gets along (apart from the odd bigot who makes assumptions and steriotypes)!dogs are welcome too which means a lot to me and today myself, my friend and my very clean well behaved dog called in and had a bar meal, which was exquisite. Having been to several high end eateries in the past including the Hinds Head and Fat Duck I have a taste for good food and the food here is indeed just that. Richard is a fine chef and Rachael is the perfect host. The staff too are fantastic. Hurrah for a place that is warm and welcoming and has such a great mix of clientele along with their furry friends who are welcomed by staff and fellow drinkers too (for the most part!). Keep it up . Will definitely be back and will work my way through the menu!

This was our first visit for food since Rachel took over the Shepherds. The food looked and tasted amazing and was good value for money given that it was Valentine's day. Lovely little touches too to make it more special...a single red rose laid on the table and heart shaped chocolates. Staff were friendly and just the right amount of attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend for especially for those special occasions.

We have eaten at the Shepherd's arms 3 times over the last few weeks and found the food to be excellent, both lunchtime and dinner on an evening. The upgrade to the restaurant and pub area has been tastefully renovated and we have been made most welcome by management and staff. We will definitely call again on our next trip to Huddersfield.
