Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was rather bland. Presentation of the burger was very disappointing, with a small bit of lettuce & slice of tomato somewhere under the burger. Not what you’d expect for a burger costing £9.25 on it’s own. £3.75 to add chips, £3.20 to add coleslaw...and £2 to add 3 onion rings. Not a cheap lunch. Staff were lovely and efficient. Restaurant is attractive and pleasant.More

Very friendly and efficient staff in very pleasant surroundings. All our meals were good but the beer battered haddock was outstanding followed by and excellent desert - the homemade Cranachan - a Scottish classic, made with a tower of shortbread, mixture of whipped cream, honey,...fresh raspberries & toasted oatmeal with a little nip of whisky.More

Previously been here in 2020 while on holiday, we again returned and weren’t disappointed. The food as always was impeccable. Can’t fault the food or the staff

The Lorne is well reviewed on this site and well thought of by locals. I didn’t book and was lucky to get a table. I had the black pudding and haggis Bon Bons. I wasn’t expecting the black pudding and haggis to be mixed together,...that’s how it is with food everyone interprets it differently, so not what I was expecting but tasty anyway. I followed this with the braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes and vegetables another good choice. When away I try to have local things in this case a pint of Seven Peaks IPA brewed in Glasgow, maybe not the best choice to go with the lamb but a good choice with the Bon Bons. The Lorne seemed to be popular, I was there on one of the burger special nights, I didn’t have one but they were popular and looked nice.More

We were in Dunoon for the ultramarathon which was cancelled due to the severe weather and flooding. The Lorne was a great place to eat at the end of a cold and soggy day. The staff are very welcoming. Nice bar as you go in...with a wide selection of all drinks, including some excellent cocktails. The food menu had something to suit all tastes, including a brilliant monkfish special. The food was attractively presented, well cooked and tasty with generous portions. The serving staff were friendly and helpful. All in all an excellent choice for the evening and we’ll definitely book here again next time we’re in Dunoon.More

This was my first trip to Dunoon and it’s no surprise that this is #1 here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere and was busy, however it didn’t feel it as the tables are far from eachother!...There was a wide range of choices to have for your meal and was delicious! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area!More

This pub/restaurant came highly recommended. It is advisable to book. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. We ordered a wine at the bar and were taken straight away to our table. My wife had King Prawns in batter with a sweet chilli dip followed...by Mac and cheese which didn't look a lot but was creamy and rich. I am a sucker for Cullen Skink which I ordered the smaller portion as a starter. It was fantastic, I regretted not having the main size portion a sticking with that. For my main I had steak and ale pie with chunky chips and seasonal veg. This was a steak and ale pie like mo other. The pastry top was soft and flaky. The steak was soft tender, melt in the mouth. The gravy was dark, rich and very tasty. I couldn't even tackle the chips. Thank you for a wonderful meal. Highly recomended.More

Went here for a late lunch with my friend & my dog. Doggy table in bar was not available so asked to have lunch in marquee only to be told that they don't serve food in the marquee. Very dissapointed as menu looked good. They...must be doing well if they can turn custom away. We went 4 miles down the road to Innellan to the Royal. Totally Dog Friendly & excellent food though not a big menu. Bus stops just outside the Royal so give it a try.More

We walked from Hunters Quay Holiday Park with our dog and stopped by for lunch. Didn’t have a booking but got a table outside in the marquee which was ideal for us. Lunch was lovely and our server was great, couldn’t have done more for...us. Glad we chanced our luck and got a table.More

I have just returned from a week in Dunoon and ate at the Lorne twice. The food was absolutely amazing freshly cooked the mixed grill was top notch. I also had the gammon another night which was out of this world. The staff are very...welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. If anyone is in the area this place is a must.More
