Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The older woman that was at the counter wasn't the most welcoming but then the sign(for Halloween) did say the witch is in. However the girl that took our order was pleasant. Scone and shortbread were homemade and tasty but we would have had something more substantial but for the extortionate prices!

Started of by being ordered to sanitise our hands. This is okay but done very brusquely. We had baguettes which were average but in my opinion were pricey at £10.50 for salmon and £8.50 for cheese and pickle. I must congratulate them though on their hot drink prices at £3 for tea ( a teabag and hot water!!) and £3 for an Americano they get the prize for the highest prices I have paid this year. I didn't t have a cake as I was afraid to look at the prices. Overall an okay lunch but I feel overpriced. First and last visit

So glad to visit Palmerston’s after lockdown. This lovely cafe has extended into the shop next door, so it’s more spacious and easier to socially distance. Extension includes an extra toilet, too. All well organised with one way system; hand sanitiser on every table and masks to be worn when you stand/move around. As usual, the scones were beautiful: spiced pear or blueberry yesterday, with their delicious homemade jam. There are cheaper coffees and scones, but it’s worth paying for the quality of product here. We bought jams to take away too - so delicious. The lady that served us was efficient and friendly. Can’t recommend highly enough.

My husband and I were returning home from a trip up North and popped in for a tea and scone on our journey home. As we stepped into the tearoom, my Husband was in the process of putting on his face mask and a member of staff shouted abruptly "Do you have a facemask?" My husband pointed to his mask which by this point he was wearing. We were then abruptly ordered to sit down. Had we not been hungry, we would have walked out. Whilst awaiting our order, a further three elderly customers entered the tearoom not wearing facemasks however the same member of staff did not feel the need to humiliate them and made no mention of it. We were served our food order and before we had the chance to finish eating were given our bill and had the inconvenience of stopping eating to make payment. After an enjoyable few days away and having visited several tea rooms and restaurants where we received excellent customer service, we were taken aback and disappointed at the service we received at Palmerston's. The scones were lovely which is the only reason I gave this review a 1 star rating. Lovely tearoom but spoiled by extremely rude member of staff. We won't be back.

Nice coffee shop atmosphere, good cakes and scones, coffee good too. The table we had was okay, but some are a little close for comfort I would say. They are trying their best and it was really good to see that even this small business was taking part in eat out to help out, a nice thing to be doing for their customers. On COVID, all the staff were wearing masks which is good. Plenty of hand sanitiser about the place and contact details were taken. Unfortunately, there is room for improvement, we had to remind the waitress and ask her to clean our table before we sat down after the previous customer as this had not been done. There is also a woman behind the counter that is shouting customers in and asking about group sizes, perhaps shouting across the cafe isn't the best idea in relation to COVID. So a couple of considerations there to be improved upon, but overall doing well.

Sadly our visit was not what we were expecting or looking for when visiting a cute cafe in Dunkeld. This review comes down to the unfriendly and abrupt customer service and extremely high prices. When we entered none of the staff looked up and said hi. We were greeted with ‘can I help you’ after a few moments which is a pretty strange way of welcoming someone into your cafe. Perhaps a ‘hi there, are you looking to sit in or take away’ would be more appropriate. After this we were hoping the food would make up for this considering their high prices. However the food quality simply didn’t match the price tag. Nothing massively wrong with them, just slightly bland, no crisps with it and a big thick slice of shop bought bread. So just very very average for north of £8.50 each and nearly £3 for a bottle of fizzy juice. They can obviously get away with these prices with all the tourists visiting but it comes across slightly exploitative which isn’t a very good look.

Visited this cafe for lunch yesterday after reading previous reviews. In Dunkeld, then do not miss this cafe. We had lunch of open prawn sandwich and a ploughmans with ham and cheese. The portions were very generous and beautifully presented the ploughmans came with portions of bread, oatcakes and fruit cake, the coffee is also very good. We came away feeling very satisfied with our choice of lunch place. Could not fault anything very good value for money.

We thoroughly enjoy every visit here. We always order the quiche and salad option and really enjoy it every time. Today we wanted to try the takeaway option and the food was packed into individual lunch boxes. Homemade quiche, fresh salad, lovely pink coleslaw end even a couple of oatcakes and some of their own made chutney. Fork, knife and napkin was also provided. We took our food down to the park beside the river and had a really lovely lunch. The girl who served me was so polite and helpful. Already looking forward to the next visit to Dunkeld for another visit to Palmerstons.

Popped in today for lunch. What a treat! We ordered a prawn open sandwich and a ploughman's and didn't really expect anything exciting, to be honest. My ploughman's was the freshest plate of food I've been served in a long time. Generous portions of perfect brie and the loveliest ham; Beautiful breads as well as a slice of dumpling, with enough soft butter to go with the bread and a salad with homemade coleslaw, leaves, lots of fruit and the most amazing nutty salad dressing. They also have a good range of soft drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful, the covid restrictions well-managed and the place was spotless. Can't fault it.

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday at end of October. Nice welcome and lovely ladies serving. What we had for lunch was nice but extremely overpriced. I wouldn't say this place was good value for money. It was nice they supply nappies, wipes in their toilets for the little ones and also have a donation box for this. My hubby kindly donated £5 towards their nappy collection. But I do think what they are charging for the food would easily contribute towards their nappy supply. Prices at this basic cafe were really quite outrageous.

Called in for tea and cake and although we found Palmerston’s to be a pleasant café, we were slightly surprised at the size of the bill and particularly £6.80 for a pot of leaf tea for two. A piece of carrot cake was £3.90, which also seemed a little expensive, but not quite so much as the tea. Given the café was full, it would appear that it can get away with such prices.

Lovely little cafe We visited at lunchtime with our 5 month old and 3 year old. The staff were very attentive and punctual in taking our order. The food was delicious and it was nice to see locally sourced ingredients on the menu. A lot of effort had been put into making the cafe covid secure

Firstly I am not reviewing this Cafe in any way as we did not go past the door. We stopped in our Motorhome in Dunkeld and were looking for a dog friendly cafe for coffee and cake before a long walk. We fancied Palmerstons and my wife asked if dogs were allowed, we were told a firm no and a lady shouted, you only get in the hotels. We noticed that the cafe was empty. ! We then saw a cafe across the road called Nova Botanics, with a board outside stating, Dogs welcome, we went in there and were made most welcome, we had lovely locally roast coffee and fantastic Cakes. As a lady Cafe owner in Yorkshire said to us when we asked if dogs are welcome, she said, "if we didn't let dogs in, we wouldn't have any customers"

Arrived for breakfast on route to Edinburgh ... limited choice of breakfast but we ordered bacon baguets from a slightly officious waitress. Bacon just warmed up ... baguets cold , not much to warm them up surely...

Myself and 3 friends had a brilliant lunch. Our lunch was delicious and the staff were amazing. The place was really busy all tables full but everyone was served with a friendly manner and the food was well presented and nothing was to much bother for them we will definatly recommend this place as a place to go. Thankyou for making our lunch visit to Dunkeld such fun.
