Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited early February, a meal before going to the opera house. I am not a regular customer but have been a few times over the years, possibly 18 months since my last meal at lonestar. Things have changed…… We used to make sure we were...mega hungry before going to this fabulous place, the potions were generous and I always considered ‘the best burger’ in Buxton. Sadly, now not the case, my husbands burger was very uninspiring - definitely not as it used to be. Smaller everything, we actually laughed when it was put on the table, meagre amount of fries artistically arranged a a little basket and the burger has shrunk, and not half as tasty as they used to be. I had a special of ‘burgeritto’ which was a burger inspired burrito, this was lovely although it seemed to mostly stuffed with chips, so much so I donated my fries to hubby. In all, I guess things had to change with the portion sizes or prices would have had to be increased significantly. For me, I would prefer to pay a bit more and to have kept the quality and quantity - However, the service was as good as everMore

Service was excellent. Good selection of food which arrived quickly, it was very tasty and the portions were enormous. I asked for mine without chilli’s which they couldn’t do as it came “pre mixed” so maybe it’s not all freshly home cooked. The desserts sounded...great but I was really full so skipped dessert. Good selection of beers and cocktails 🍹 The only downside is the seats are extremely uncomfortable, no padding or cushions, you’re sat on cold wood or metal and it was cold so I kept my coat on, otherwise I would have liked to stay for another drink or coffee.More

Really tasty food - I would definitely recommend the birria beef nachos! Good portion sizes and the wait wasn’t too bad considering how busy the restaurant was! Great service also, we will return.

We usually come to Buxton a few times a year for operas at the theatre. We often go to a restaurant for a meal before the performance. This time we thought we'd try a restaurant we hadn't been to before, but we rang the one...we had chosen a few times and got no answer. We therefore decided to go back to our old favourite, the Lone Star. The answered the phone straight away which The was a good start! When we arrived we had a friendly welcome (as usual) and we had an excellent meal (as usual). The menu was the same as last time, with a few specials. The classic burger is always a good choice and that is what my wife chose. I had the chimichurri burrito - delicious! Everything was very well prepared (and it is worth pointing out that the chips were really good - something you can't always take for granted). There were a few couples and a family group on the restaurant; it always has a relaxed atmopshere and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. Service was pleasant and efficient. The price is very reasonable. We'll continue trying other restaurants in Buxton from time to time but I expect that we'll be back at the Lond Star before long.More

Not a good meal. I had prawn fajitas. The only cooked elements were the onions, peppers and prawns. The peppers and onions tasted as if they were cooked and reheated, the prawns had no flavouring. I asked the manager about the cooking and he admitted...the veg was cooked in advance and said if the vegetables weren’t cooked in advance customers would have to wait an hour for food. I suspect the veg was cooked days ago. I would not go again.More

I met my Chesterfield-based friends for tea as it’s a halfway point between there and Manchester. Menu items were fairly expensive- most of the starters cost nearly a tenner. I chose the Sticky Chic burger: while the halloumi bites had to be my favourite part,...the accompanying salad and coleslaw were rather…limp. I liked the vibe of the restaurant, and service was warm. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals a lot, but largely based on the cost, I can’t say I’d hurry back.More

My boyfriend and I went for the Steak and Lobster night and it was amazing. We pre-ordered our meals so when we arrived we were seated at our table and had time to relax and have a drink before the food came out. Once the...food arrived it was phenomenal. So fresh, so tasty, and beautifully presented. The weighting on team were so tentative and the owner made the personal touches of coming speaking to all his guests which I found really added to the family vibe. I’ve been to Lonestar so many times because everything about the place is just perfect. Would always highly recommend to anyone.More

Thanks for contacting us. We regret that dogs are not allowed inside the restaurant setting but we do have tables outside where you are welcome to bring along your pooch and secretly feed him steak under the table!
