One of the best places in Worthing

I went to Munch yesterday for coffee and lunch. It's actually one of our favourite places in Worthing whether it's for a drink, a cake or a meal. Unique location in the Worthing gallery, the menu is really varied, the service cannot be faulted and it's all really good value. They were also very attentive and safe following reopening after covid lockdown. We would definitely recommend it (got to love hazelnut mocha).

Popped in for lunch today. Very well set out for covid restrictions and the staff were extremely friendly and polite. I had the crab, prawn and smoked salmon salad while my partner had the Munch breakfast which were both very tasty and excellent value for money. Couldn’t recommend more and tucked away out the hussle and bussle of the Main Street. Well done ladies you’re doing an excellent job.

Lovely little find!

Third time I've been to Munch since being introduced by a friend. Each time I have visited, the staff have been warm and welcoming, very efficient and polite. The food has always been superb and the flavoured coffees put some of the big name coffee shops to shame. The manager has always been very accommodating when our "mums group" comes for lunch or when a couple of us need a coffee, with buggies in tow. As a breastfeeding mum, I was made to feel at ease and comfortable feeding at Munch. Whether its coffee with friends, lunch with the kids or a breakfast with the mums, this is my go to place! Thank you for being you Munch!!

Wouldn’t go back.

We have been to Munch quite a few times and enjoyed our meals despite a very long wait each time, however this time we won’t be going back. Upon our arrival the staff were rushing us and rude, I completely understand it gets busy, but a smile and good customer service goes a long way. We took our daughter upstairs to sit, they gave us the most awful kids cutlery I have ever seen, chewed plastic with bits falling off, how they think this is acceptable is beyond me, our cutlery was also covered in dried food. We waited over an hour for our food which arrived cold, we could have sent it back but our 2 year old was getting agitated waiting for so long and we were too hungry to go elsewhere and wait even longer. We went downstairs to pay when we were then told they wanted us to pay in cash because it will charge them otherwise, I wasn’t prepared to leave to go and get money out. If you don’t want to be charged through the card machine then please just take cash only. Unfortunately the poor customer service, awful food and hour long wait will mean we won’t be returning again which is a shame. I hope the staff start treating their customers properly, an apology goes a long way when things aren’t running smoothly.

Thank you for your review, really tricky to know how best to respond. We take full responsibility for all parts of our business and you are 100% right, those children’s cutlery are not the nicest and I can only apologise for their state. We do sweep through them for their integrity and it looks like a set has slipped through the net. We are blessed with a great team that is complimented with weekend staff that are doing their A levels and other exams. Imagine being crippled with shyness but given the opportunity to work at the weekends and school holidays with a supportive bunch and work on areas that as adults we face every day. We even had a heads up from her Mum before she started just to make sure we had all the facts and could do the best for her. Always a work in progress and some days are better than others. We would have that young lady work with us always because she is a genuinely smashing young lady that is working on her not so good bits. It is unfortunate the heated discussion you were having spilt over into blinding your empathy for her. We stand by our staff and their attention to our customers needs, which is why when you left the building we chased after you to return your property you’d left behind. It is with regret I can read you have been here before, had a good experience but never left a review, in fact this is the only review you have left, ever. Ideally TA should not be a means to vent other frustrations, but instead a true and factual detail of your actual experience. For example your check was first logged 12:21:40 and you paid 13:10:15, that doesn’t add up to over an hour to wait for food. I’m sorry you have chosen not to return, I’m sorry we got caught up in a matter that was clearly heated and nothing to do with us. I’m sorry the young lady was more shy that usual, customer service comes with experience and we stand by offering that to the young people coming up through the ranks. We accept your decision not to return.

Popped in here for lunch and received a very warm welcome. There is a good selection of food and drink, and the coronation chicken sandwich was very tasty. The cafe is dog friendly and even offers pooches a little tasty treat so they don't feel left out. We will definitely return. Thank you ladies.

Friendliest eatery in town

We don't visit Worthing regularly,but when we do we always stop in for lunch here. As soon as you walk in you are made to feel appreciated , a greeting of " Hello my lovelies" as soon as you get through the door. Great personal service, a vast erray of quality prepared food, great coffee all reasonably priced in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are always attentive and you never feel rushed, I can't recommend Munch enough and Its always busy which speaks for itself.

Fantastic Place

Wanted to find a local coffee bar for a quick beverage & cake. Came across this place and found ourselves a hidden gem. Warmly welcomed, no hard sale and the drink & food options cover everything on the food scale as I am a "carnivore" and my wife is vegan. Next time we are in the area, this is where you'll find us for lunch.

A hidden gem, worth a visit

Found this lovely eatery by chance having cut through the arcade to the pier. Tasty homemade fishcakes with chips and salad as a special for £5, excellent value. Partner had the Munch Stack, a massive sandwich of chicken, bacon and cheese on thick sliced nutty brown bread for around £6, bargain but he felt the portion of chips a little undersized for £2.95 :) Very comfortable surroundings and the staff are lovely which makes all the difference. Will use again

Munch was recommended to us for lunch by the owner of our accommodation as we had both our dogs with us. The lunch was good - with several 'specials' on the menu that were attractive, and the one I had was really good. Our dogs were impressed by the 'chicken or sausage' menu option just for them! Service was very friendly (and efficient). By the time lunch was over we had reserved a table for brunch with our friends for the following day. The Brunch was great too!

First and last time at munch!!!

After our drinks arrived it was just mistake after mistake. We ordered 4 items 2 baby’s one breakfast I said no mushrooms, they put mushrooms on it. Instead of doing a new breakfast which I understand they just scraped the mushrooms off, they could have at least got all the mushrooms as after taking a bite out of a hash brown I realised I also took a bite of mushroom. The extras we ordered on the wrong plate. My partners breakfast was Luke warm only hot thing was the sausages and they where obviously just deep fried. Then she finds a hair on the plate which once taken to the foh staff she said she didn’t want a new one as she was put off at that point, they still bring her a new one which she sent back. They took the breakfast off the bill but somehow the total still came to £28 for 1 full English, 1 sausage/ 1 egg/ beans, 1 scrambled egg/ a tiny pot of beans, 2 lattes and a squash for one of the baby’s. To top it off I asked for the money for an extra sausage we were over charged for, the woman just took it out the tip jar and handed it to me. Worst customer service I’ve ever noticed the only friendly helpful people where the lady’s in black uniform which I think where the chefs. Will never be returning!

TA is a great tool for factual summaries of a users experience, when it is used as a punishment, sadly emotions and exaggerations may come into play. No one likes to read a bad experience about their business, that's why we use our CCTV: it's factual and provides objectivity. Sadly it would seem there is divergence of events, ultimately I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit.

Wonderful food in welcoming surroundings

We were taking an afternoon out in Worthing when it poured down with rain. We escaped into a mall opposite the pier looking for a coffee and a sandwich when we came across Munch. The staff could not have been friendlier, there was a huge attractive menu and everything was cooked to order. The fishcakes with salad and a baked potato were full of fresh fish; the cheese omelette was reported to be delicious, as was the breakfast bun with extra egg and hash browns at no extra cost. If you want good honest food, well cooked with fresh tasty ingredients, you can't beat Munch. And the bill came out at under £ 40 for 4.

Consistently wonderful, time and time again

We have visited this cafe many times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. Staff are the friendliest I've ever experienced and this is consistently so. Any dietary requirements are never a problem and they have a menu to suit many different needs. Their prices are great, especially for children's meals. Many places charge too much for kids meals when kids barely eat any of it anyway! But here you can get a good size meal for £3-£4. Their hot chocolates are also delicious and you can have a almond milk, oat milk or soya in addition to the usual cows milk. We will be back again!

Lovely breakfast couldn’t fault it but would be more savvy if I ever went there again. we ordered full English breakfasts at £8.95 and was asked which bread type we wanted, what eggs, and then do we like hash browns and black pudding. So we said yes. But it was done in such a friendly way as to think it was included in the price. It was clever upselling on their part and there are no prices for extras on the menu. So a £8.95 breakfast become a whole lot more. So I am impressed at how they got us to spend more money but annoyed at myself for falling for it. So wouldn’t go back for that reason. Need transparency on the menu and to say things cost extra.

Thank you for your review, we are thrilled to be able to use local suppliers and have done from the day we opened 10-years ago: handmade sausage from our butchers, proper breads from a real bakers. Quality and consistency is key, you have kindly stated this in your opening gambit. The modern high street is very demanding and offering options is imperative for our survival and success. To that end we do list extras on our menu, not all of them as the tides of fancy and change ebb and flow and we would be reprinting our menu before the ink had dried on the previous version. Reading your review you seem more cross with yourself at having been duped, I’m sorry you expected to have extras without paying for them. There is no smoke and mirrors on our part but simply a business listening to their customers needs and delivering it to the best of their ability.

Yummy lunch

My mum and I visited on a busy Saturday in August, on our first visit to Worthing. We had decided to visit Munch, after reading the great reviews, we were glad we did. The owner welcomed us and quickly, thoroughly, cleaned a table for us to sit at. We were told about the specials and then given time to make our choice. When our sandwiches/pannini arrived they were delicious, freshly made and served with fresh salad and coleslaw. All staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely return, if in the area again.

Attention to detail

Visited Munch for lunch during the Covid restrictions with my son and daughter and her two children. Were shown to a table upstairs away from other customers. The table service was excellent and when we were brought our meals they provided children's cutlery for my grandchildren. The ladies toilet was very clean and provided baby change facilities. We were very impressed with the extras provided free of charge, baby wipes and nappy bags and women's personal hygiene items. Will definitely visit again.
