Visit to the Red Lion, Cholsey

My family and I have visited the Red Lion twice since it reopened with Mark and the team from the Chequers in Berrick Salome. The food was absolutely delicious, the service kind and attentive (without being too much), the processes in place for track and trace, access, ordering and paying made us feel safe without detracting from the comfortable, village pub feel and we would highly recommend. It is great to see the village pub providing such a warm, welcoming and family friendly atmosphere in such difficult times.

Mussels were fantastic! (Wine good too!)

Really lovely meal. My friend and I had a really enjoyable evening. The tables were well spaced and service was adequately distanced, plenty of care was taken but the restaurant area retained a sense of atmosphere and didn’t feel empty. We felt very ‘safe’ and well looked after. We both chose mussels, one Thai style, and traditional moules mariniere. Both our dishes were delectable! The flavours were fantastic and cooked to perfection. A lovely evening was had- and I heartily recommend and certainly plan to go back!

Excellent, great food and happy staff.

With 35 of us arriving for our annual extended family reunion we occupied all of the large room at the very end of the bar. We had the Christmas Party Menu and the choices were good and the food was excellent with very generous portions and all delivered by 2 smiling waitresses and we were all very well fed by the end! This is a traditional English village pub and at Christmas time with a big tree in the bar and a fine selection of beers and great food with a large car park it deserves to do well. Go and enjoy 10/10.

I had heard from friends that the Red Lion in Cholsey was worth a visit so finally managed to get there over the Diamond Jubilee weekend. The first thing that strikes you is how genuinely friendly the staff are. They really couldn’t do enough for us. The menu choice was good. My friend and I shared a starter. Again no problem for the staff. The main meal was excellent. We enjoyed our visit so much we went again the next day and enjoyed the same experience. I’ll definitely go again. They also have a take away menu so planning to do that too. Great job Red Lion Cholsey!

Why wouldn’t you try the Red Lion? Great Pub!

Diverted off Didcot Rd to have Sunday lunch at the Red Lion after spending a couple of hours at Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary a couple of miles away. Service at the Red Lion had been great, staff very pleasant, prices reasonable and food lovely. Thank you.

Lovely food and staff

A lovely visit to the Red Lion in Cholsey. The roast dinner was absolutely delicious. The two young ladies who served us were both very friendly. Along with the man who seemed to in charge of the resturant etc. He was very friendly and very capable of his job. All expected measures in place and a great atmosphere.

Lovely New Local

Having just moved into the village I was excited to hear the Red Lion was re-opening! I wasn’t disappointed - the staff are lovely, helpful and caring. The food is wonderful, really tasty and well presented. I couldn't fault it.

Fabulous village pub!

We moved into Cholsey only 2 weeks ago and we have already had two fabulous lunches at the Red Lion. Charming and accommodating staff, really delicious food and a really lovely atmosphere. So so glad it is in our village!!

A lovely meal with a warm welcome at the Red Lion Cholsey

Another fantastic meal for my mum and I at the Red Lion, with a lovely warm welcome, and fantastic food. The set up feels super safe and we were able to relax and have a lovely evening. Thank you! My mum is coming back with my 5 year old son for dinner this evening, at his request, as he loves it so much too!x

A pleasant surprise

Visited with two children under 15. The pub is clean and staff friendly. It was hard to choose lunch as the menu had plenty of great dishes. Mushroom soup was one of the best I've had. Mussels were lovely and so was the calamari. We all left full and very satisfied. Will go again.

Great food lovely atmosphere

I tried out the red lion in Cholsey recently after it had been shut for a while. The new lot seem to know what they’re doing. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming for me and my family. The ale was good as was the Merlot. The food was amazing! The house mussels where the beast I’ve ever had! Been back 4 times since and the haggis fritters with ducks egg are to die for.

Very good - Under new management and refurbed.

Under new management and refurbed. Good services and local atmosphere. Good menu, quality and portions. Maybe a few more lighter options for those watching their waistlines. Easy access for wheel chairs and buggy’s. Would definitely try this old age pub. Plse like if this helped.

A lunch with a friend. We weren't very impressed - the place has a run-down feel - quite dark inside and there's what we thought was quite a dangerous step between the bar and restaurant. Having said that, the service was very good and the food, while not memorable, was adequate and filling. We haven't thought about going back!

Great night out .

We have a motorhome this was a great stop over . The food was excellent. The menu very varied, great Greek influence . Didn’t manage desert . All home cooked food. Great atmosphere and lovely staff . Will be back soon .

A MUST visit!

Me and my friends visited for a meal and a drink. The lady behind the bar was super friendly and welcoming. She helped us get a table straight away. We ordered starters and mains which was delicious! Service was OUTSTANDING! Atmosphere was cosy and relaxing. Highly recommend
