Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Food was great as it was on our previous visits. Beef roast was superb and the soufflé was outstanding. Service was very good and friendly.

My hubby and I have just spent 2 nights at The Cornish Arms and it was absolutely stunning! Tavistock is a super quaint Devon town and everything you need for a comfortable stay is right there at The Cornish Arms. Our room was beautiful and...spotlessly clean. It wasn’t a cold weekend but if you wanted to heat the room the radiators were instant, that’s a biggy for me, having a warm room also a lovely tea tray stocked with everything you need. The restaurant was divine, log burners, fantastic friendly staff and the food was absolutely first class, everything was home cooked and I wish we could stay for a week and taste everything on the menu, the scotch eggs were particularly wonderful. Thank you for a perfect stay and we can’t wait to return again soon. Big shout out for the bar staff, wonderfully friendly and couldn’t do enough for you! Well done guys, 11 out of 10 👍 Sam & SteveMore

We've eaten here before for lunch and it was so good so we booked for evening this time. Unfortunately it was a busy event in Tavistock and absolutely rammed with people. Hoping for respite from the crowds we arrived at Cornish Arms to find it...packed to the gills like a wetherspoons. Our small table for four was in what felt like a passageway where people who were just there for a drink stood over you whilst you ate, or pushed past you to get to another room. Whilst the food was nice I wouldn't say fine dining and expected so much more from a Michelin restaurant but even so, very difficult to enjoy such an expensive meal in those surroundings. Will give it a swerve on evenings in future should we ever return.More

Excellent meal again, this was our second visit to the area and wanted to try out the Cornish Arms again. Lovely meal including an Aranchini and a Risollo cep mushroom starter, followed by two perfectly cooked rare Venison fillets and a great bottle of Montelpoluciano....Service and food quality excellent.More

One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Fabulous food: I had duck liver parfait, a 12oz Dexter sirloin and a chocolate parfait. Wine list interesting and service impeccable and friendly. Finally not as expensive as we expected. All in all...highly recommended.More

Stayed Sunday night in the mallard room, the room was perfect, incredibly clean and all of the little touches were so well thought out we were made to feel very special. Every member of staff was attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them,...their passion for the business was incredible to see. The food was out of this world and so filling after a day walking on the moor. We can't fault anything here and loved every minute of our stay. Such a special place to go we are booking to stay again already.More

It's a bit too pretentious for me and therefore overpriced and a pass. I live in Tavistock and used to frequent once or twice a month but rarely for dinner. The last time I visited was the final straw so to speak. I walked in...and turned left because I could see my wife sitting in the bar area. I was yelled at, from across the room, by a bartender because I deigned not check in with him and ask permission to enter. God forbid a person walks in and sits down without asking permission! The bartender looked hungover and acted like this place is God's gift to Tavistock....its not. Go to the Market Inn where the food is better, cheaper, and non-precious.More

What a pleasant surprise. What looked like a traditional pub served the most delicious food. Fine dining at very respectable prices.

Dogs are allowed in the bar area and outside seating area. There is plenty of covered seating outside, a bonus if it’s wet.
