Not sure what Michelin found there... ok, it's a great gastropub and as gastropub, it's very good with special cuisine and some unorthodox choices. But it's still a pub with very good pub food, but its still pub food, it's not haute cuisine. My wife...had pate, and while it was very tender, but it did not have something special in it, some special bite or flavour. I had teriyaki chicken wings and while the concept of teriyaki with nuts is interesting, the chicken wings itself were mediocre. My wife had chicken curry and I had turkey pudding. Very different dishes in very different styles and quite ok, but not more. Italuian red wine was fairly ok too, but neither wine, nor the food did not justify the 80 pound check to me. Sorry for being a bit harsh, but I was underwhelmed.More

Visited on Friday for lunch. I had the Pork Chop with Hispi cabbage (and side of Mash) and my wife had the Homity pie. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and were completely stuffed (no starter/Dessert). Service was great as well.

Go to this pub. It’s a great experience but the food is incredible. I can honestly say the best fillet steak I have ever had. The starter of pate, was beyond good, pay attention to the superb onion chutney - which the chef gave me...the recipe for - and the brioche toast was like a cloud. So light. Friend had the crab ravioli she was very impressed. Back to the steak - cooked exactly as I liked it, the chips and béarnaise was lush and the herby veg as an extra side was tasty, just don’t kiss anyone after. Friend had the steamed suet pudding with turkey and ham with mash and cranberry. Said the meat was succulent and no manky bits like you get the dregs in other restaurants. I was full and not wanting pudding, it’s a pub, so is it’s a pudding not a desert! Friend had sticky toffee banoffee mix. I plumbed for the mango soufflé - also superb and worth waiting for as the other courses needed to go down! All in all a great and worth every penny visit. I think they’re missing a trick on selling their chutney instead of giving the recipe even though it was a nice touch. I would have bought a jar. Also there were some incredible water jugs, this is the kind of detail people rarely pick up on but again bespokely made for them - and something I might have bought to come home with. I’ve visited a lot of gastro pubs and ‘under the radar’ Michelin worthy restaurants and this one could quite easily sit in my top 2! Go. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you team at Cornish Arms. You made our day.More

We booked a table at this restaurant after reading a recommendation in The Daily Telegraph and so we’re looking forward to the experience. We arrived early and were a bit surprised at the decor which appears to be a quick cover of emulsion over old...wallpaper. Considering the prices being charged the tables and settings are basic. We were given the menu and drinks that we had ordered but it took sometime before our order was taken and our choices were enthused over - would everything on the menu have been an excellent choice! Then the wait began. The food when it came was good, but I’m afraid very overpriced. With the exception of the person taking our order the staff seemed to be completely indifferent to the customer and we had to make our way back to the bar to get anyone’s attention that we would like to pay our bill. Overall we were disappointed and would not recommend the experienceMore

We can’t get here as often as we would like but when we do I know we will be guaranteed excellent, innovative dishes. Whether meat based or vegan there have been more than one occasion when we have declared a particular dish being ‘best I’ve...ever had’ and with none of our party being young, we’ve had many years of food to judge it by! What I like is that this high standard is consistent. I have every faith that each visit will add another layer of assurance that this is the best restaurant in the area/county/country even. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable. You will *not* be disappointed so try for a table, but they get booked up quickly - and that is not a surprise with their high standards of cuisine.More

We had lunch here whilst viewing houses in the area, and boy are we glad we did! Our only regret is that we didn't have anything from the starter menu as we knew we were having a large dinner at our hotel later that evening...(which turned out to be not that good, hence the regret!). We had the teriyaki chicken wings and chorizo hummus as a sort of starter - both were so flavoursome. I had the lamb and my husband had the ox cheek for main. Both had huge amounts of flavour and were also beautifully presented. There's not that many restaurants (Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 is one) where, after a few mouthfuls, you still notice the flavour, but this just kept on giving with every bite. For dessert I had the chocolate and salted caramel delice which was divine. I literally wanted to lick the plate and, if we had had time (and weren't having a big dinner that night), I may have risked being seen as a lard @rse and had another. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding. Whilst he said it was the weakest link in his lunch, it was still nice. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends.More

We took my aunt out for the first time to this eatery. I had not seen her for over 10 years and really wanted a good experience, she is a lovely lady, and deserves a treat occasionally. The food was sort of okay. Not outstandingly...good, and clearly portion control is a thing here. As we were only ordering a main course- for the moment staff came to remove the extra cutlery. This was done without a word, and in a slightly off hand manner, reaching across us and being obtrusive. When food arrived it was rather 'plonked' in front of us, no grace at all, not even any enjoy your food or enthusiasm of any sort. After we had eaten we asked for the dessert menu. Ten minutes later we decided it was not going to come, so we paid up and left. No-one asked us if we enjoyed what we had, no-one came to offer more drinks, or coffee afterward. Overall it was a disgruntling experience and left me with zero desire to return. The company- my delightful aunt, and our respective partners, was super, despite the attitude in the Cornish Arms. I am glad I had not googled them- I would have been even more disappointed.More

This place is a must for foodies. Came to celebrate my husband's birthday after seeing John cook at the Travelling Feast in the summer. We came with high expectations and we were not disappointed. Lovely room, everything we needed including fresh milk, a great welcome...from General Manager Steve and superb food.My husband's smoked haddock arancini were memorable, greater breakfast to follow the next morning. All in all a lovely short stay, we will be back.More

Absolutely faultless as always, stayed overnight, the room was perfect with everything and more you’d expect, it was lovely. Dinner was a magnificent feast we enjoyed over a few relaxed hours, breakfast as excellent. Staff lovely and efficient. Can’t be beaten, we’ll be back soon.

Dogs are allowed in the bar area and outside seating area. There is plenty of covered seating outside, a bonus if it’s wet.
