For the first time I had stayed in the beautiful village of Ross-on-Wye , I wanted to taste some of the beers made by the Wye Valley Brewery sited in Stoke Lacy , Herefordshire.
I had researched some pubs in Ross one of which was...the Man of Ross situated a few hundred yards down from the Royal Hotel where my wife and I were staying.
We had walked down from the hotel the previous night to the pub called the Man of Ross , just up the road from the Kings Head where we now stood, so as to taste the beer called Butty Bach which is Welsh for "Little Friend". However, the Butty Bach at the Man of Ross was a 'miss' . Virtually no 'head' on the beer and not a nice taste.
So , here we were at the bar of the Kings Head. Would it be any better ?
I ordered half a pint of Butty Bach and asked the barman if he would pour the beer so that it had a nice head on it. I wanted a taster first before ordering a pint !
My wife and I tasted the beer and agreed that , although it was lacking a little bit as far as a head was concerned , it was as tasty as good beers tasted before.
So I ordered another pint but asked the barman if he could put the beer sparkler on the tap so as to get a better head. He was quite happy to do this and , having a little wait for the beer to settle , I returned with my pint to my wife.
The beer was superb ! A nice creamy had and lovely flavour ... , as good as a pint in the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge and the Brunswick Arms near the Uplands in Swansea.
Success !More
