Went there for a small 70th birthday celebration. The food was absolutely fabulous, and the service first class. Would recommend it to anyone celebrating - its not cheap but its worth it

The Hammer & Pincers is hard to fault. The service from the moment we arrived was very good. We arrived over an hour early and was offered a table and we were well attended to throughout the night. The service staff had a perfect balance of being attentive without being overbearing. The food was very good and the complimentary tasters... More

My family and I have eaten here many times, normally Sunday lunch. Always lovely. New Years Day however was fabulous. The food was cooked to perfection. I started with mushrooms on sour dough, which was splendid. The juices of the mushrooms and cream soaked into the bread for pure comfort food. Followed by fish pie. Sublime. Everyone else had the... Second visit, came here several months ago. It was very good. Second time around, no different. Fab Sunday roast. Not cheap but local sourced produce and very high quality. Service was excellent throughout. Venison croquette starter with apple salad - wow. Main dinners really good. Deserts fantastic. Highly recommended for a treat.

This lovely restaurant has been worth the trip North since it opened under the guidance of chef proprietor Danny and his wife Sandra. There was a period when it wasn't as good when they were not around, but that has changed. Make no mistake Danny can cook really very well, and now seems to have an accomplished brigade who can... Although restaurant wasn't busy had to ask for a drink - which took ages to come. Then had to wait ages to have our food order taken - again restaurant wasn't busy. Starter was bland and completely tasteless so had to be returned - which they did take off the bill after agreeing it was tasteless as the chef doesn't... More

Very lucky to have this restaurant in our village. Having been to many lunches and meals all over the UK with work it is great to say that the hammer is the nicest food with the best service of all restaurants I have eaten in. Would thoroughly recommend the hammer to anyone for lunch or evening meal. The Sunday lunch... More

The place has a lovely ambience and the food is excellent both in taste and presentation. But attention to detail means it falls a little short of the 'fine dining' qualification to which it aspires. But then again, whilst the price point is at the very high end of average, it is not totally exhorbitant for the standard presented and... More

There's no wonder this place is ranked No1 on Tripadvisor, the service is just spot on, staff can't do enough for you without being in your face and the food is just Divine with a capital D. The Sunday roast is probably the best I've eaten in my life, the beef was cooked (pink) to perfection and just melted in... More

We visited the Hammer and Pincers for lunch, it exceeded all expectations. The food was inventive, with amazing flavours and textures. My starter of gin cured sea trout, crusted crayfish with a horseradish buttermilk is one of the most delicious starters I have eaten, the textures of the crusted crayfish paired with the creamy horseradish buttermilk were divine. My main... More
