Reliably good food and service

Visited Friday for lunch with my husband. First visit since pre-lockdown and as always staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The eggs royal and steak ciabatta both delicious ( latter served with yummy triple cooked chips). Sadly too full for a piece cake!! We were seated undercover but definitely worth booking a table as limited to outdoor space until 17th May.

The friendliest little restaurant! A must visit

We started to visit The Courtyard on the recommendation of friends and have very quickly become regulars! The ambiance is relaxed and the staff so friendly and have time for everyone who visits, consequently we have never been when it isn’t busy! We tend to reserve a table if it is peak times but every effort is always made to accommodate us if possible. From the varied options for breakfasts (the scrambled egg with smoked salmon on a croissant is inspired!)..to the tasty lunches, and of course the delicious homemade cakes 🍰 too many to mention. There is always a roaring fire to welcome visitors in the winter, and I am looking forward to sitting outside in the sunny courtyard in summer. A delight!

Yummy breakfast and and lovely atmosphere

We visited the Courtyard for breakfast twice whilst staying in Knutsford for a few days. Between us we had full breakfast, Eggs Benedict, sausage paninis and cinnamon toast. The cooked breakfast was delicious, with high quality, well cooked ingredients, the eggs benedict was perfect, with lovely runny poached eggs. The sausage paninis went down a treat and the kids loved the cinnamon toast. Both ladies who served us were very friendly and chatty, making us feel very welcome. We will definitely return when visiting Knutsford.

We arrived at around 10.30am, to be greeted by a very abrupt waiter, who makes you feel like you are a nuisance. We ordered our food and drinks. The drinks arrived promptly, but then a group of 8 cyclists arrived, and they seemed to take precident they ordered after us but all got their toasted teacakes before our food! Our food arrived the poached eggs had little blacks fluff/hairs on them like they had used a black teatowel to dry off the excess water. We told the waiter, he just whisked the plate away without saying anything, not how you behave. We asked to cancel the eggs as it really put us off and when we came to pay he said don't worry I haven't charged you, like he had done us a massive favour. We didn't even have them. The waiter then went to another table to complain about the customers he has to deal with, highly unprofessional. I have been many times before and this has been the worst experience ever.

Hi Chloe, I have read over your review and I can confirm after speaking with the waiter that the 8 cyclists received their food first because they had Tea cakes which are made by the server and not the chef so they would not be in a queue for cooked food,The black fluff is from our black service clothes that we use to move hot plates from the heated pass these where brand new and could have been washed first to remove the new fluff that material as when it is new . The Customer he was relating to is a lady who decided to take a reserved table and demand we find another for the booking which was due to arrive within minutes which was frustrating and unfair. We hope you can see the series of events and we hope you will come back as we really do want you to have the very best food and service.

Disappointing visit

Went for lunch and the welcome was extremely rushed, table had just been vacated, no cleaning, asked for it to be cleaned and the waiter brushed it with his hand, swiping off residue. Asked for it to be cleaned properly and a cloth left on a post was picked up and rubbed over the table. Waiter was extremely sweaty, gave us two wet menus and walked off, saying he’d be back. No care whatsoever in the middle of a pandemic. Customer care needs improving.

Hi, On the day of your visit the restaurant was extremely busy and when you arrived as you mentioned the previous diners had only just left the table, we prefer guests do not take tables until they have been prepared and sanitised and we concentrated on finding a high chair and sanitising that first when we arrived back you had sat down not giving us a chance to finish our sanitising. the WET menus had just been sanitised which demonstartes we are sanitising everything if people would not sit at dirty tables and give our team chance to prepare the tables which take longer because of the procedure.Our waiter was running around trying to serve his tables and be as quick as he could its was the hottest day and he was working outside so Im sure he may have perspired but im sure not extremely we did everything we could to assist your visit including moving a parasol to cover your child in the high chair without you even asking.

Lovely birthday lunch

Great range of dishes. I had breakfast and my wife had the soup and a sandwich. both were excellent. My wife mentioned in passing that it was my birthday and after we had finished our food they brought me an unsolicited piece of cake with a little candle on. So kind and thoughtful. We also had a mini tour of the various penny farthings on display - very interesting. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I would certainly return if we are in Knutsford again.

How didn’t I know this place existed

I’ve lived in knutsford for over 2 years and been visiting for about 18 months before that, how I didn’t know this place existed is beyond me. This is probably the best breakfast I’ve had in knutsford, all local produce and to a high standard. I asked to replace the ram to with an extra sausage and would normally expect to pay to replace it however when receiving my bill there was no extra charge. Staff where friendly and courteous, will certainly be going again very soon. Ohh and the chocolate brownie which is homemade is simply amazing! If you haven’t been, treat yourself!

Rude waitress

Had the worst ever experience yesterday afternoon 26/10/21. My wife and I sat at one of the courtyard outdoor tables to wait for service. Only another outdoor table was occupied, and some people were sat inside and in the outdoor tent. The place looked like it was two thirds empty. As no service came, I went inside the cafe and asked if I could have the menu. The waitress told me "We are fully booked so we can't serve you I'm sorry". I said "That is ok, but even just for tea and coffee?" she said "no" and I went back outside to tell my wife we had to find somewhere else. As as I sat down to think of where we would go next I was shocked that the same waitress came to kick us out of the open air table. She came directly at us and said in a firm voice: "If you're not eating you can't sit here either". I felt so embarrassed as there were people inside the tent looking at this waitress kick us out. I said to the waitress: "You had already told me we could not eat here, we are going". To my further shock the waitress raised her voice and aggressively said: "I din't say you could not eat here, I said we were fully booked". I felt paralysed as if someone was trying to start a fight with me. I have never been confronted by any service staff in my life before, this was a new unpleasant experience for us. I looked at my wife and looked at the waitress and said: " Ok good bye then". And my wife and I left the open air courtyard where we were there was at least another 10 empty tables. The place looks beautiful but it was completely ruined by this confronting, aggressive and rude waitress.

Great Brunch

Super location, food excellent and good value. Service efficient and very efficient. Recommend outdoor eating area especially in spring or summer, indoor restaurant can get busy but worth the wait. Especially recommend Welsh Rarebit, excellent anytime but a great Brunch.

Fantastic, and Covid safe

We’ve been coming to The Courtyard for years. It is absolutely outstanding. All the food is homemade and tastes fantastic. I can never resist the eggs benedict, and a piece of one of the amazing cakes... Everything is outdoors at the moment and feels very safe. Marquees protect from the elements and there is sanitiser on every table. All the staff are wearing masks and if you need to go inside to the loos, they check your temperature beforehand. Staff can’t do enough for you and even when really busy they are super efficient and friendly. I always look forward to meals here!

Great service and food

Knutsford is our half way place to meet our friends from various parts of country, I booked in advance, and so glad we chose this venue. From arriving the staff were attentive but not intruding, there was a wait for food which we were advised of straight away,wasn’t a problem. The food was certainly worth the wait. I think Gemma was the waitress and she was absolutely brilliant as all of the staff seem to be. There’s a nice outdoor area for eating also which is dog friendly. Will definitely be out new place to meet in the future

Lunch With Friends

This was the first time we were able to get together and we couldn't have chosen anywhere better, everything about The Courtyard is just fabulous The Setting The Food, The Staff just amazing. It was a cool damp day when we visited and inside was full but this was not a problem as we were undercover which had heaters and we were given blankets we were very cosy. We chose soup, smoked salmon omelette and eggs benedict which were superb and very good portions , we were looked after by David who was professional and helpful with a sense of fun so Thank You . All covid rules were in place and we felt very safe, and look forward to visiting again soon. Would highly recommend.

Lovely courtyard but very rude and aggressive waiter

Arrived for lunch on Friday with my mum and three daughters. We have always liked this restaurant as my little girl liked to watch the train go round inside. This unfortunately was not running. In the past the service has been great. The gentleman who took our order was courteous enough but lacked any general warmth or manners..just a smile or please or thank you would have helped. We ordered two childrens sandwiches as my mum is not a big eater, a bacon and brie ciabatta, chocolate brownie and some drinks. If the first waiter was unfriendly, the second waiters attitude was terrible. When he served our food he was incredibly rude. He basically banged our orders at the end of the table. He never bothered to ask who had ordered what but just slammed the plates on the table in an angry way. He was permanently scowling at people. We are very friendly people and tried to respond positively but my mum especially was quite upset by it. There were no manners whatsoever and to be honest his manner was generally bordering on aggressive. The food is nice enough although also lacks some finishing touches to make it excellent. On collecting the bill the waiter snapped out requesting my 5 year old give him a 'high five' she didnt really want to as he had been so rude so far and the general atmosphere was incredibly awkward. Maybe he was having a bad day but the other waiter was unfriendly also so I think they seriously need to review their service skills.

The Courtyard Knutsford

Hi, I would firstly like to apologise and explain the day of your visit. Our regular staff had booked holidays which coincided with our chefs holiday which we thought we could cover by using staff from a Hospitality staffing company which we have used in the past. On the day of your visit we had new agency workers doing the role of waiting on. we started with training pre opening then we started service within a matter of hours we had noticed his behaviour was unusual and this caused our other waiting staff to try and cover more tables causing them to panic a little as we had never experienced this. We discovered he was slamming plates on tables saying strange things to guests and staff and requesting high fives with every communication . We immediately called the agency and informed them we where about to remove him from the premises of which they agreed was the apropriate action. we subsequently received a call confirming that he had been banned from the agency In all our time in Hospitality we have never witnessed such bizarre behaviour and once we had realised what was going on we then spent our time apologising to customers for the poor service. we where also upset at arranging 3 chefs to cover for our Chef annual leave and all 3 canceling for various reasons leaving our kitchen to run by less experienced staff. As you will see from the many comments our usual standard of service and quality of food is excellent and thankfully all our staff are back from holiday on Sunday 12th June and Monday we have learned from this experience and in future will ensure we always have regular staff cover. I hope this goes someway to explain and I hope you except our sincerest apology for the experience you encountered.

My Birthday surprise lunch from my gorgeous Friend 😘

Well what can I say about the lovely Courtyard. I was taken for the first time by my friend and had a wonderful time. The Staff were so welcoming and on point with everything, the food was just perfect, it was so good that we are taking another birthday girl on a surprise visit this Friday and talking of birthdays "Happy Special birthday today to David" 🎂see you all tomorrow for some more delicious food and drinks 🤗 Thank you all

Dainty and nice

Went there for lunch after visiting something nearby. Nice little setting, on a perfect day for it. The staff were very attentive and the manager paid particular attention to our allergy details. I had crayfish and avocado salad which was nice (although too much sauce for me but others might like it) and partner had a chicken sandwich which was relatively straightforward but done well. Would try the omlette next time as they looked really good coming out
