We had booked for a night here in mid-October but all ferries were cancelled and so we had to cancel the day before our proposed stay. I phoned the hotel to advise them of this and, even though they were not at fault (and neither...were we), they said that I would not be charged. This would obviously have been a blow to them so I commend them on their attitude and I really hope to make the 700-mile trip visit them next year.More

The Storehouse is a superb space, beautifully created, in central Kirkwall. There is a spacious restaurant and bar. The menu is good and has special versions for veggies and gluten-free. Food delicious (portions maybe too large for me) devised with local produce in mind, and...a superb wine list. Attentive service.More

Very nice restaurant in an old meat curing store. Relaxed dining - cool interior! - very welcoming, excellent service, fine selection of wines. Dinners were delicious and well-plated. Local produce. Get the scallops! Parking is tricky; there’s a wall along the road, perpendicular to the...restaurant front, with enough length and shoulder for 5-6 cars, and more across the street. Worth it.More

Stayed a night and ate in the restaurant. All is newly refurbished and of an excellent standard. Our room was a little small but excellent quality and clean. Our evening meal was outstanding. Would thoroughly recommend eating here.

Food was OK, nothing special at all. Had read great reviews so we were disappointed. Not a very big menu selection. Service was mediocre. Not particularly friendly or attentive wait staff. Took a very long time to get our food.

Very nice restaurant in the centre of Kirkway. Intersting update to the old fish store into a modern and stylish restaurant. Service was good and the food was excellent. We tried the hot smoked salmon on oatcakes and home-made chicken terrine (a proper terrine, not...a pretend pate) for starters; and pork belly with black pudding and the fish and chips for main. All excellent. Washed down with a rather nice bottle of Rioja. Lovely!!More

Scallops starter over cooked. Warm lager. Pesto soaked fries. Sirloin steak white. Haddock & chips were good. Shan’t be racing back, will save the £100 next time for several other meals at other local hostelries.

We stayed in the rooms and had dinner one night and breakfast for 5 days. Brreakfast was good - the usual range of cooked and cold options all freshly prepared. No fresh orange juice is the only complaint. Supper was high quality, local produce imagintively...prepared.More

The Storehouse is a restaurant and bar with eight hotel rooms in the upper two floors of the building. St Magnus Cathedral and the main shopping area of Kirkwall are just a short walk away. We stayed for two nights and loved the colorful design...by a local artist, and the many nice little touches. The building was originally a storehouse, hence the name, and nicely converted into a hotel. It’s a mix of modern and traditional, recently renovated to high standards. Our room had a large double bed, a table with filtered water, tea kettle, and complimentary tea, coffee and shortbread. The en-suite bathroom was very modern and came with high-quality toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel - no body lotion). I specifically loved the bathrobe that was provided. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and was one of the best we had during our two week stay in Scotland. Smoothies, freshly made hot breakfast, granola, fruit, and homemade savory and sweet pastry were amazing. Dinner was very nice as well, and the bar is well stocked with local gins (and some whisky). Rooms on the 1st floor may hear some noise from the restaurant as it’s an old building with little insulation, but after 10 pm everything was quiet. Parking is not available, however you can park in the streets around the hotel free of charge.More

My friend and I stayed here for three nights and dined in the restaurant for breakfast (included) and dinner one night. The hotel and staff were phenomenal. We were coming late from the Shetland ferry and they stayed around to open the doors for us....Full breakfast was included every morning in their beautifully appointed dining space- loved the turquoise everywhere! The space is gorgeous. We enjoyed the breakfast options and they allowed us to order breakfast early one morning when we were heading out before their breakfast shift. Dinner was also great- I enjoyed a soup of the day and a cheese plate with different Orkney and local cheeses. Drinks were lovely too and there is a bar/seating area in front. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on eating here. The room was beautiful and comfortable with all we could need in a compact space. They asked when booking if we wanted the beds together or as two singles which was great. The bathroom was stunning with nice toiletries and a stunning shower. The room also had tea, coffee and biscuits. The skylight windows were really cool with a remote that would close automatically if it rained too much (which it did one night). The staff we were in contact with from beginning to end were just super helpful and made the experience even better. I highly recommend staying here. Location- wise you are maybe a three minute walk to the main drag in Kirkwall.More
