Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Did not disappoint. Tea was served in delightful crock tea pot with matching cups. Cakes are to die for. It does get busy when a cruise ship comes in so we went early in the day. FGood is local and nutritious not 'junk food'

Visited this shop cafe on a Sunday. Found a nice table with comfy chairs. There was a specials board clearly on view. Menu”s were on the table and clearly laid out. We both chose the westray salmon salad and two latte’s. The coffees around very...promptly. These coffees tasted amazing and the best we’ve had for a long time. The salads arrived 5 mins later. Again these salads were totally amazing. Full of flavour. Fresh salad prepared on site. Not the usual car park leaves found at most restaurants. The visit here was pleasant with lovely staff and beautiful food.More

The centre of Kirkwall is a bit lacking in good places to eat so we decided to go back to Judith Glue despite having been disappointed last year. The food is ok but the whole set up is really lacking. The cafe is pushed to...the back of a very chaotic shop, almost as an after thought, with the kitchen area behind the counter. The staff are extremely unfriendly, and seem to wander around aimlessly, not quite knowing what they are doing. It was very busy at lunchtime and we were told our food would be 20 minutes. Not sure why as it was only a soup with bread and a smoked salmon pate, all of which could have been served very quickly, but there seemed to be no sense of urgency. The coffee ordered at the same time took 10-15 minutes to arrive. So, in all this place needs to get their act together. The best thing about it is the location!More

We left disappointed, to say the least, if not disgusted. From our table we could watch what was going on in the kitchen area. For instance, soup in a bowl was spilled. The Bowl was cleaned with a towel, that seemed to have been used...on many other occasions. The bowl of soup was then served. For another instance, salad leaves fell down into the display, were then picked up with the fingers, and arranged with the fingers on the plate. Also, the table next to ours was not cleared up throughout our stay. We had a panini and a crab pot. With the unhygienic conditions in front of us we did not enjoy the food at all and would not return to this cafe.More

We popped in about 11.45am for coffee and cake and it was very crowded. There were only two staff who were run off their feet, doing their upmost to cope, but rattled. The food was ok, but there was no water left at the water...station, and although I saw two people ask for top up’s, the staff directed them to bottled (pay for) water, as they didn’t have the time to fill the jugs. As we left, a third staff member appeared, but by then, the rush was over. One of our party had a chocolate brownie and felt unwell afterwards. I wouldn’t eat there again. Sorry!More

Mint slice was dreadful and certainly not home made. Mass produced and poor. Gift shop is grossly overpriced and not value for money. Only poor experience in an excellent trip to Kirkwall.

I've never had veggie soup like this and it was so good I hope I have it again. It is a puree, a dark-ish color as though a lot of leafy greens went into the soup. The flavor is a very rich and complex simmered...vegetable taste, perhaps with potatoes and their skins, and it is perfectly salted with just enough pepper to get a tingle on your tongue. It was the perfect lunch on a cold rainy day.More

Nice scone. However, abysmal service. Tea and coffee arrived quite promptly but scone and flapjack still not arrived 15 minutes later. Another couple who arrived ten minutes after us had tea and scones served almost immediately. On enquiry, we were told they were short staffed....By the time the food arrived, tea/coffee was cold. Very diffident waitress - no apology. Tables not cleared - grubby.More

Straight in front of the cathedral, this place is a little more expensive than most lunch spots but the portions are bigger and everything we had was excellent, especially the herring plate, the soup and the coffee. Kept us going the rest of a busy...day.More

We didn't actually get as far as the cafe, just looked around the shop but that was enough for us. The shop is very expensive, you can buy almost all the food in a shop just a couple of minutes further down the road at...a much cheaper price.More

Very overrated. Worst cup of tea I’d had in a long while. Decided to get a take out sandwich for lunch instead of sitting in, but the sandwiches were very basic and very expensive so didn’t. Largely elderly clientele, all seemed rather outdated.

We arrived mid afternoon and it was crowded but they cleared a table for us which was accessible with the wheelchair. Offered options for my Mum who wasn't keen on the choice left that late in the day. We all had a lovely snack and...drink. Yes it was pricey but you are paying for the quality of the food and the local produce. Also enjoyed the shop at the front and bought some locally made souvenirs. Their service in the cafe is second to none. My husband left his rucksack there but didn't realise. The shop realised we were from the cruise ship, rang to say they'd drop it down when they closed, drove to the port and dropped it off - only when they were dropping off did my husband realise that he'd left it behind because he happened to be looking out at the dockside! Impeccable service. Thank youMore

We visited this beautiful gift shop & cafe after visiting St Magnus Cathedral & would definitely recommend a stop off here. It was perfect for a lite lunch, soup & cheese scone with good quality coffee. Staff lovely. It had real character & we purchased...all our gifts to take home. The shop & cafe is owned by The Storehouse Hotel & Restaurant which we stayed in for 5 nights which we highly recommend too.More
