If you are looking for a meal with a view, this is the place to go. They have fantastic panaramic windows overlooking one of the bays, with cliffs, the channel between mainland and Bressay. They have planned for the safety of their customers and their staff, with an in / out system. The menus were paper based and I am not sure if they were single use. The condiments were not left on the tables and delivered to request and so were cleaned between uses. There was also safety signage about. The food is good as well, with several choices for starter. The main courses included meat, fish and vegan options. We didn't make it to dessert as the 2 courses were so filling. The vegan roasted sweet potato burger (with additions) was tasty and very satisfying. Shame about their beer suppliers but we shared a lovely bottle of house white instead. Definitely recommend this place.

Me and my husband booked for breakfast for a Saturday morning at 8am. This was the start of our 2 weeks holiday in Shetland, getting off the Aberdeen ferry at 7.30am. Booking confirmed by email. Service was prompt and friendly, excellent Covid precautions with the staff wearing face coverings and hand sanitizer at the entrance, contact details taken when ordering our food. Our breakfasts were delicious, we both had small breakfasts which include toast, they aren’t that small ! Americanos with hot milk on the side were strong and hot. Definitely recommended.

Never had a bad experience here. Wonderful staff, attentive but not overbearing and delicious food that's well presented. It can get busy at peak times so I always book a day or so in advance. The views regardless of the weather are amazing and Shetlands wildlife from Orca to Migrating birds are framed for you while you enjoy both the view and the fare. Highly recommend.

Fjara's location is beautiful with windows looking over the water and in the warmer weather it is lovely to sit outside and enjoy the view however I have been disappointed recently with the value for money and the customer service. On my last visit at lunchtime we had a lengthy wait to order and have the table wiped free of crumbs and liquid from the previous diners. There isn't enough waiting staff checking the tables and it's irritating to have to keep getting up to ask for cutlery, coffee refills etc and the staff behind the counter are irritated by the requests as they are run off their feet. One of our party ordered the mussels as a main course and when the bowl arrived at the table it looked like a starter portion and certainly wasn't worth the price. When I commented on the sparseness of the mussels I was told by the person eating them that the portion can vary depending how many mussels they have in the kitchen. This isn't good practice - the portion should be consistent - and if the mussel supply is running low then take it off the menu. The only reason I didn't complain about it was I didn't want to embarrass my guests. I understand that sometimes circumstances like staff sickness can dictate customer service but after several visits with the same experience the service needs to improve especially when visitors are arriving on the island again.

Chosen this location as it had good references online. Coffee was very good. Very beautifully located with big windows opening towards the seaside. Food: Small portions considering the price (chicken Caesars salad). Ordered 4 meals - with three of them they messed up our order and did not bring requested option (pancakes with jam instead of honey, chicken drumsticks Thai instead of crispy fried, cheese sandwich instead of ordered cheese & ham). Our impression overall - waiters and kitchen staff a bit inexperienced and young and not really up to the task. Could have been very enjoyable stay but unfortunately it wasn’t.

Menu was limited compared to previous visits. Ordered drinks, and had to wait over 15 mins before delivered. It was only 2 pints and a bottle of wine! When we came to order were we told that the mussels were not available so had to completely reconsider our decisions. We were a family group of 5 from 2 households. No one asked for contact details. The restaurant was packed with noisy groups who appeared to be there only to drink and clearly were not acting within Covid rules in operation at the time. Service was ok but not over friendly. Disappointed as I have been a regular visitor and champion for Fjara since it opened.

Over last weekend we visited 3 times once for lunch, then coffee and later lunch. The service was very good and the place was very busy at all the different times we visited. This is hard to achieve, well done guys. The food came out quick and was excellent. The lunch items we had were the Cullenstink looked a bit pricey but when you got the bowl with the large amount of fish etc, no complaints. The Steak sub was a favourite. The coffees on a busy Saturday were very good and the two flavoured coffees wer good not too much, but you knew the flavour all three were good. Lunch was good portions of tasty Scampi and also the Hake dish with a pepper and lemon coating, so tasty, great small fries as well. We will be back next time we are in Shetland.

Great breakfast after travelling overnight from Aberdeen. Returned in the afternoon for tea and scones and were treated like unwelcome guests and refused entry while a false availability check was carried out, meanwhile other customers strolled in and helped themselves to the best tables. The waitress remarked “oh well I know them they are regulars” or Shetlanders in other words. Probably too dim to realise the cafe would not exist without the tourist trade.

Stopped here after an early morning arrival from Orkney. Great ‘small’ breakfast and eggs Benedict, which as I’m vegetarian they kindly substituted the bacon for vegetarian sausage. Coffee was good too.

One of our party has specific dietary requirements and we were all impressed with the care and attention from the waiting staff to ensure that not only did she have a meal that suited her but that I’m finding out what the kitchen could do to make it an enjoyable meal. Service was thoughtful and the right kind of attentive, the food delicious and our only regret was that we were so full we had no room for dessert before heading off to another event. When you add in the location with its spectacular views and the local provenance of the food there is much to recommend Fjara. Thank you to all the staff for our lovely meal

Fantastic service from our waiter. On the booking I had stated that we needed gluten free food and options were ready for us and we were talked through the menu. The food itself was incredible as was the view from the restaurant. Our waiter even sorted us a gluten free pudding option that wasn’t on the menu and was delicious.

The breakfasts here are fantastic - as a family of 4 visiting Shetland for 10 days, we visited Fjara three times for breakfast and each time we had a great experience. The eggs royale are lovely - the salmon is lovely and peaty which is a nice touch when you're having salmon on Shetland - certainly not a usual thing back in England. Lovely views, great sevice, delicious food & coffee.

I normally get a meal deal from TESCOs but decided that I needed somewhere to sit, relax and have decent food in amongst people. I got a table no problem even though it was busy. I didn’t want too much so I plunged for the BTL sandwich and curried parsnip soup, which I wouldn’t usually go for. The food was brilliant, came out fast and I can only but commend the service. The staff were all young, working like Trojans but also had time to be pleasant whilst under pressure with a vast turn over of customers. The views are to kill for also. Well done and keep it up folks.

We visited here twice. The first time was for a lunch, and the four of us loved the food. We were seated in a little annex next to the bar, and the views out to sea were wonderful. I had an advocado sandwich with sun ripened tomatoes, one of us had 'haggis, neeps & tattie soup', and the food was delicious. We visited again before leaving Shetland, for a pre-flight meal. Wonderful pancakes, bacon & maple syrup - and hubby had a full Scottish breakfast. Very grateful they were open, as so any places were closed for Up Helly Aa. I would return - shame it's rather a long way away!
