We ate at The Wee Puffin yesterday evening and it was so good ! We had read the good reviews and knew it was a small restaurant so we booked ahead which I think is pretty well essential. The restaurant is small - maybe about 10 tables - but has a real charm which is matched by the cheery and friendly staff.
The menu is not huge but is made up of dishes of homely favourites which are superbly prepared and cooked. We both had variations of their homemade burgers which are absolutely superb - so delicious and extremely generous portions. They also have a great selection of malt whiskies and craft beers at reasonable prices. We will definately return next time we are in Grantown on Spey.

My wife and I visit The Wee Puffin for dinner yesterday and we were very impressed.
The restaurant is quite unpretentious from the outside, occupying a small shop frontage on the High Street. Once inside we had an immediate impression that all was going to be well. The Wee Puffin was busy but we had reserved a table.
Rather boringly, we both made the same menu choices, broccoli soup to start followed by Coronation chicken. The soup was probably the best broccoli soup that we have ever eaten, this could not quite be matched by the main course which was very good, pieces of chicken breast on a bed of haggis with a piquant, creamy sauce, good and generous vegetables and rice.
The wine list is small but interesting and our bottle 0f Sauvignon blanc was good value at £15
The service was good, friendly but professional, all in all, thoroughly recommended - we have booked for next week!!

Not in the “haute cuisine “ category but this friendly local restaurant offers a decent choice of food at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere. Great choice of drinks too - whisky in particular - and friendly and efficient service. I had the fish and chips which was well cooked and very tasty ( and huge!)

We visited the Wee Puffin for an evening meal - I booked via messenger on their FaceBook page and got a speedy response. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy which is always a good sign. The food is very tasty, I had a home made burger, my husband sausages and mash, they also had other tasty looking dishes such as pan fried chicken. Husband had Creme brûlée for pudding - I had a spoon and raided far more than he wanted me too because it was nice! Would definitely recommend the Wee Puffin

This place does such a good business it does not really need any advertising here... The service is excellent, the Beer list interesting, and in this difficult pandemic time they are taking sanitary precautions and social distancing seriously. However the food really is a bit of a blast from the past and if you like to have a huge stack of chips and nachos and other carbs on your plate, you have found the right place

I ate at The Wee Puffin on two nights and both of my meals were very good indeed. I particulalry liked the Puffin Balls to start which are balls of haggis deep friend in batter. It's not healthy but ooh it tastes good! I had a curry and although the chicken was a little dry, it was very flavoursome and accompanied with a small pita bread and poppadums too. An ample portion for one person. I also had a burger which was equally as tasty, followed by sticky toffee pudding which I thought was delicious. They have a very good selection of local beers and ciders, a good selection of wines and soft drinks, and the staff are polite and attentive too. I would recommend visiting here.

The lady who greated us also took us to our table, ordered our drinks and meal and tended to our needs as well as everyone else in the room.
We had read the reviews and decided to book in advance given the popularity of this venue. We were greated and had our details taken for track and trace. Sanitising fluid for hand use was prominently displayed, along with little ditties to make sure you knew what to do. The area was clean and tidy, with a well stock display of whiskies and an on offer whisky of choice. Our food was very tasty, well presented and reasonably priced. We would recommend the Wee Puffin, book in advance, you wont be disappointed. The restaurant also offers an off licence approach for take outs if required.

I couldn’t be happier with the place, staff, or the meal. This is a really lovely and cosy restaurant . The decor on the walls is very cute, lots of interesting art pieces focussed on puffins etc. The veggie options are all laid out explicitly in the menu which is great to see, plenty of choice too.
The food arrived hot and fresh very promptly. I had the battered vegetarian haggis balls as a starter and the vegetarian home made chilli as a main. The food was excellent overall, my only regret is that I was too full to have a pudding.
There’s a superb selection of whisky too. The whisky of the month was a very interesting local one, which I read online was only available in very small quantities so well done there for getting a bottle and advertising it!
The staff were very pleasant, friendly and welcoming.
If you’re going to visit here, which I highly recommend, I would advise making a reservation in advance. They did mange to squeeze me in but it was otherwise pretty much full as far as I could tell.
My only suggestion to the business would be to look as some kind of upgrade for the cooling/ventilation system as it was quite warm inside.

Visited with my wife and three sons, having booked a table, which I recommend doing, as it's fairly small. Lovely, cosy spot, with fab staff. Several of us had burgers, which were fantastic. They were well cooked, looked great, and I think good value, particularly when you can pay the same for a shabby offering from a pub chain. Puddings good to, although I can't remember what anyone had. There is also an excellent selection of drinks, including numerous bottled beers, as well as whiskeys and gins. Definitely visit.

A smallish restaurant in a town which we thought would offer more. The food here is rather unambitious and very strong on carbohydrates, disappointing given the very good reviews here. That said, it’s a friendly place that has an interesting whisky menu with a good number available by the glass. Other places in town are much less inviting, so you’re probably best coming here anyway.

The Wee Puffin may be a small restaurant but what it loses in size is made up for by great food and excellent service. The menu is varied with plenty of tasty freshly-cooked dishes to choose from. We went there on one night and ended up going there for the next three nights as we had enjoyed it so much. Pre-booking is a must.

We had been advised the hotel we were staying at could not provide dinner and we were given a list of take-a-ways. We were not in the mood for a take out and decided to look on Google for any good local restaurants and came across this little gem! When we arrived it was full and were offered to order to take away (much better option than greasy fast food!)
When we were looking through the menu a table had become free and the owner had offered us the table, despite the fact it was due to close in under an hour. There was a real friendly atmosphere and we were not rushed at all! Nothing was too much either, I am dairy intolerant and they offered an extensive dairy free menu! (a rare find!) I was able to have a steak and ale pie for the first time in a long time which was mouth watering! I noticed there were also gluten free, vegan and vegetarian menus available!
My husband and son also loved their meals. My son had the adults fish (whale!), chips and peas and wolfed it down! (to the astonishment of the table next to us! 😂)
It was so good that we are looking forward to visiting again with family when back up Aviemore for another little holiday in the near future! An absolute gem of a place, you won’t be disappointed.

This is by no means a sophisticated restaurant with an adventurous and creative menu. It does however, offer decent, nice home cooked food which was tasty and filled us up. The decor is very dated, although the bar area is nice. You could say it needs a lick of new paint and some new artwork and decor, but actually its pretty popular (it was fully booked when we went) so probably doesn't even need to. Don't go expecting a gastronomic journey in exquisite surroundings, but good honest grub served by very hard working and amiable waitresses.

Myself, wife and 9 year old son visited The Wee Puffin in August this year which was absolutely fantastic. Fast forward a couple of months and we're back up in Grantown-on-Spey and there was no debate about where we were eating on our first night.
Once again the food was sensational. My son, like his Dad, is an avid lover of fish and devoured an adults fish and chips on our first visit and done the same again this time round. I plumped for the fish as well which I can only describe as one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had....and that's not an exaggeration.
My wife, who has several dietary intolerances, was well catered for with a whack of options that were either vegan or dairy free etc.
One things for sure, we will be back.

A local restaurant that always seems to be packed, so indicative of the quality of food.
We had pre booked as first night we couldn't get a table.
Had drinks (lots of local specialities) ,the drinks menu is very good value; haggis, tatties & neeps and I had a special dish of Puffin Balmoral Chicken (chicken breast on a bed of haggis served with veg and rice).
Only criticism of the Wee Puffin is that we had to wait quite a while to place our food order probably about 25 mins (it was very busy with other diners coming and going). The Wee Puffin offers a take-away service as well.
Food was hot, delicious and good portions.
As the evening wore on and tables left, other couples and groups were coming in and able to get seats so my advice would to be go later on if you haven't got a booking.
Highly recommend.
