The positives: beautiful restaurant, lots of charm and character. Very friendly waitress but she was struggling to serve a full restaurant on her own. We waited half just to get our first drink? The negatives: The food is WAY overpriced for the standard. It is...definitely NOT of a high standard. The starters, we had Gravlax, we’re THE smallest I’d ever seen??? A piece of smoked salmon no bigger than your thumb???? I had the crab linguine for my main. What arrived was a bowl of bland, tasteless slop. The chilli was non existent. The linguine was actually spaghetti. It was totally and utterly tasteless. And for £20!!!! I returned it, to be told “sorry but that’s how it comes?” I would have been better having a pot noodle. I then had sea bass which truthfully wasn’t much better…there was some unidentifiable item of food under the small sea bass which was burnt. I had no idea what it was? My husband ordered the steak which he said was adequate…but it was served with no finesse, two small pieces of rocket, 1 tomato, 1 mushroom and a bowl of cheap oven French fries. This meal was £25!! I watched the desserts come out and was shocked to see those horrible shop bought merengue nests which you get a box of 8 for a £1 for. A small amount of cream/yogurt? And a couple of strawberries on top. This cost £6.00!!! As you can guess we didn’t bother with a pudding.. So, coming on here to write my review I was shocked to see comments virtually written ‘word for word’ about the food written by other diners!??? Why are they not listening to people??? So sad because it is a beautiful setting, but the food quite frankly is just awful!More

Booked as it was easy walking distance from our holiday let. We ordered Crab and Chilli Linguine, and got spaghetti with a tiny touch of crab and a sprinkle of chilli. completely tasteless. The worst disappointment came with desert - £6 for a shop bought...meringue nest with a blob of yogurt and a few chopped strawberries. This is not high cuisine, nor is it decent pub grub. Standards need to improve to justify the prices or drop to match the low quaility Wait staff, friendly, attentive and efficent.More

We came in on the off chance of getting a meal. The landlord / bar man was helpful and said that the restaurant was next door. We popped in to see if they could accommodate a table to 2 as we had not booked and...they said yes! I had the steak and my husband and the 'crab' linguine. Steak was nice with chips and mushrooms (tad over priced though). My husbands linguine was terrible though - noodles and the teeniest amount of crab. He said that it was tasteless and not that well cooked. The 2 waitresses were good thoughMore

On arrival, Simon greeted us showed us around room etc. And left us to it... EXACTLY what we want 😊. He was very pleasant and polite great host. We'd been camping for 4 nights so room felt amazing to us, had everything we needed. Private...kitchen to do as you please which had added extras you could help yourself to. Pub is beautiful, and food looks just as good. I believe most people's complaints are nit picking and potentially down to being out of the game for 18months and readjusting. Give the man a break!!More

Ordered the crab linguine which arrived way too fast to have been made fresh. What arrived in front of us was a congealed blob of ?noodles? (I’m guessing as it definitely wasn’t linguine). Luke warm and tasteless and also vastly overpriced for the portion size...and quality. No children’s menu so had to get the get children chips. Also all their seafood appears to come from Scotland which is strange as we’re in Cornwall. Pub is lovely however and has a nice courtyard and a good selection of local beer/cider.More

Nice place and the service was excellent. However, who buys their mussels from the shetlands in Cornwall? They had a fishy smell to them as well. Not good at all.

Thank-you for your review. Regarding the mussels the local ones are spawning, you wouldn't like the taste. Scottish mussels are the best option at the time of your visit and are cleaned twice daily by the tide.

Terrible service , food was cold so we sent it back and asked for a new meal and was told that they didn't have any more steak, but 15 mins later the table next to us ordered steak and got it. We asked to talk...to the manager but was told he was to busy cooking to talk to us and he sent his kitchen porter out to us . Waittres was lovely but inexperienced. PLEASE AVOID as the website is very deceptive . They also dont have any beer and told us to get drinks from the pub next door.More

Mid week and lovely front of house staff greeted us at the Bistro. Very professional, Covid Safe and spacious between tables. The menu was fantastic. All starters chosen were beautiful and full of flavour. Mains- Muscles were plentiful and all open, whilst tasting Devine! Linguine...was delicious. Chocolate desert was 👌 and cheaseboard ample after a beautiful meal. Many thanks for a very lovely evening and we will be back!More

nice old pub with a separate bistro dining room, spacious layout (you aren't crammed in on small tables), menu offers a choice of four or five starters / mains / desserts. All of it very nicely done - the plaice and its vegetables/salad accompaniments being...my favourite. choice of good local beers too. Front of house staff were genuinely warm charming and efficient, the best we encountered in our week in Cornwall. Suggestions / builds - not many - I would just suggest that some might want the option of a side order of chips (esp with the plaice main course) if they have been out hiking the coastal path or surfing all day. The courtyard and pub/bar area across the courtyard also seemed very pleasant although we didnt have time for a pre dinner drink. (Last table was at 20:30)More
