My wife and I visited this restaurant while on holiday and we are glad we did. Run by Lydia and Flo, the food and service were fantastic. Flo is French and provides the food and Lydia is a great hostess. The restaurant is small, I estimate about 18 people would fill it, and is cozy and welcoming.
We can recommend the Cote de Boeuf for 2, although they prefer advance notice if ordering. We tried frogs legs for the first time and they were delicious as was the creme brulee for dessert. The menu is not massive which means that Flo can give the dishes on there the attention they deserve.
Due to covid, they are currently not open during the early part of the week but if you are in the area give them a call and book a table, you won't be disappointed.

I love that the menu at Le Petit Monde can be treated as a sharing style meal or traditional three courses. We have enjoyed two superb lunches here and found new favourite dishes each time. On our most recent visit we enjoyed padron peppers with a cheese dip, chicken flavoured with espelette chilli pepper, duck rillete which is not at all fatty, and a glorious cheese plate. You will be warmly welcomed and served in a relaxed atmosphere. Any questions you may have about the dishes are answered with warmth and enthusiasm.

Thank you so much for your kind words about our petit monde. Love the way you and your partner dine tapas style - our small plates are to die for (I am biased of course!). See you soon for something else Florian concocts for our next menu!

We were only staying in Bideford for one night and were lucky enough to find this lovely little restaurant. Lydia originally said they were fully booked, as they don't generally do two sittings, but when I said we were happy to eat early, she found us a table making clear that the table was booked again for 8. This was fair and clear communication which suited both us and the restaurant. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The quality of the food was excellent, and neither of us could fault anything. I had asparagus with truffle honey to start. This was a simple dish but so beautifully prepared, that it was very memorable. The Thai salad was again beautifully prepared, with a perfect balance of flavours. With this quality of cooking, we had to try the Clafoutis for desert, and it was skilfully made with clearly top quality fresh ingredients. This enthusiastic young couple have created a lovely restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, which I am sure will be a great success. They are a new venture, so do give them a try.

Slow service and mediocre food. The server was enthusiastic and very complimentary of the chef, though unfortunately we did not agree with the generous endorsement. Can only suggest the team visit Memories restaurant, or perhaps the Temple, or Sazerac in Bude if they want to compare with "one of the absolute best chefs of the area".

Thanks for taking your time to write us this review. Sorry you felt that the service was slow on the night you came. As a couple-run, owner operated restaurant there are two of us - Lydia in front of house and Florian in the back. Nothing is pre-prepared and everything is cooked freshly to order. Although we stagger tables to ensure smoother service at the busiest times depending on what is ordered there could be a slight wait as Florian only has two hands to cook for up to 20 people!
We do not ‘turn tables’ - so once you are our guests the place is yours for the evening - indeed other diners have commented on how much they appreciate the unhurried service and lack of pressure from us. But of course should anyone have any time pressures themselves, and they tell us that when they arrive, then obviously we will tailor our service as much as we can to meet their requirements.
In our four months in Bideford we have been told about and compared to Memories, generally favourably, which pleases us, as they are obviously running a popular and well-established restaurant. The other place you have suggested is aiming at contemporary fine dining - every plate seemingly a work of art - so maybe they are less comparable. We are going for a relaxed vibe, and more simple, rustic food. It’s honest food carefully prepared - food we love cooked the way we love.

We liked what we saw of the menu and as it was our anniversary, reserved a table hoping that the restaurant would be a decent standard. We were the first guests to arrive that evening but Lydia introduced herself and quickly settled us in. Service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly without being intrusive and I feel Lydia has a natural talent of making her guests feel special. The menu isn't extensive, but the food we had was delicious. Lydia's partner, Florian is chef and he made an appearance several times during the evening to make sure we were happy with the plates he had created. All of the dishes we ordered were good quality, cooked well and excellent value. The Lundy Crab was sweet and delicious, with Florian offering to take it back to the kitchen to 'play with it' so we could get more meat from it. We enjoyed a lovely evening with delicious food, good wine, friendly fellow diners and superb hosts in Lydia and Florian. From our experience I would definitely recommend dining at Le Petit Monde and wish we lived closer as we would without doubt be regulars. I hope Lydia and Florian keep doing what they're doing because they are doing it very well.

We were travelling around Devon and Cornwall and ended up visiting the lovely restaurant on a Friday night.
It was just our style. Nice relaxed atmosphere to enjoyed very tasty fresh food with a lovely host. We never felt rushed or ignored, just the right amount of service and chat.
The food was the best we had while travelling around. The mussels were perfect in the cream and shallot sauce and steaks were also cooked exactly as we asked for (they get rare spot on).
Definitely pop in, it's the only reason to stop by Bideford!

We stopped by to check the restaurant location whilst in Biddeford and a fresh batch of goats cheese was hand delivered by a local tradesman. On very short notice we asked if we could book a table and even though they were fully booked they squeezed us in early the next evening.
The menu was quite extensive for a small venue with small plates which were mainly seafood and the very British starters, mains and desserts. We chose 5 small plates and a bottle of house red. The food came out as they were made which is the way it should be, no messing about waiting for starters, mains and desserts for the whole table, French Tapas at it’s best.
The food was superb, fresh, tasty and presented well. The lady front of house was always making sure guests were attended to and running back as soon as the chef ‘dinged service’. We actually had a repeat small plates the roasted peppers with yes you guessed it goat’s cheese! Yum yum.
Wish the couple th beets of luck going forward.

Bideford is very lucky to have such a great restaurant; with a lovely intimate atmosphere, plus friendly and professional service, married to absolutely first class food. The scallops were a plate of total rich deliciousness, perfectly judged; and I haven’t had anything as melting in the mouth as the slow cooked lamb for an age! And the puddings… just gorgeous!
It was lovely to meet the young couple running it too - both Lydia (running front of house) and Florian, the charming French chef, are so friendly and enthusiastic about what they’re offering, and keen to get customer feedback. We’ll certainly be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu. You'd be mad not to give this place a try!

Hi Sheila, thank you for your lovely review. We are glad to hear that you loved our food as much as we do and enjoyed your evening at our little world. We look forward to seeing you both when you are next in Bideford to try some other mouth watering food by Florian!

I can’t praise this little restaurant enough. It is very small (I think we counted 16 covers) which means the husband and wife team can concentrate on all the brilliant things you want from a meal out. Their menu was varied enough for most tastes but only offers about five main courses which ensures high quality and a varied seasonal theme. The service was exceptional as was the wine (we had a French Pinot Noir). I had a delicious T-bone steak, my wife a Thai themed steak salad with crispy noodles. It wasn’t fussy or pretentious, just beautifully cooked and exceptionally tasty. Book well in advance because the best little things in life are worth waiting for.

Being on a short holiday you can never be sure of the restaurants you have booked. Le Petit Monde was something special. The service from Lynn was friendly and informative and very much followed the French unhurried vibe. Don't expect a fast and impersonal meal, this is a slow and friendly experience. The table is yours for the night, so there is no rush and, very much in the traditional French manner, the food will be served when it is ready. Just sit back and enjoy. Savour the excellent food, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy the evening. We did and wish we live closer to make this a regular haunt.

Visited on a quiet Tuesday evening in May and had the best time. We pre ordered the Cote de Boeuf for 2 and this was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. We swapped the corn and the cob for a side salad and this worked perfectly with the dish. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert after the huge plate of beef (it can feed 3).
Many thanks to Lydia and Flo for a great evening. If we are ever in the area again we will certainly visit again.

Everything about this restaurant was lovely. The owner was engaging and couldn’t do enough to accommodate us, adjusting menu items to unit our needs. The food was delicious and at a reasonable price. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant

We had a lovely evening with friends at Le Petit Monde. The restaurant is very cosy, the service was great and the food, most importantly, was delicious. The menu highlights the food experiences of the couple that run it, many of the recipes being passed down from family or picked up on their travels. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in Bideford

This is our third visit to the restaurant and we love it! We always make sure we come here when we come to Bideford.
The couple that run the restaurant remember us each time and they are always so helpful (especially at cracking crab claws) and offer great advice and conversation. There is never a rush to hurry you out of the door, ensuring that our night was relaxing and enjoyable.
This time we pre-ordered the fruits de mers and it did not disappoint! Gorgeous range of seafood that you could taste was fresh and the perfect amount for two.
We cannot wait for our next trip to discover what seasonal and delicious food they have next.
Thank you for an incredible evening.

We arrived on a friday evening and shown to the table by Lydia, who is the co- owner and front of house. She is very friendly and instantly makes you feel at ease. It's her partner Florian who does the cooking, and it's top quality cooking. We had the Dover Sole Meuniere which was a classic dish that apparently he loves cooking. It was superb. We had three courses and the timing was impeccable. We didnt feel rushed, and we didnt have to wait too long. Lydia may benefit from a waitress to support her at some point if the restaurant continues to be very popular, as she is just a bit rushed sometimes!
