We were fortunate to secure a Saturday evening booking at short notice due to a cancellation. Very much a repeat visit but earlier ones have often been for Sunday lunches. We were welcomed with customary warmth before taking a loveky cosy and private table opposite the log burner at the rear of the bar. Perfect for what we wanted. Our food choice proved perfect. Starters were smoked haddock scotch egg with black pudding, and aged beef in Asian sauce with a delicious salad. Both were excellent. Mains included calves liver ~ beautifully tender - and a mouthwatering mixed fish dish with basmati rice. We shared an interesting and widely varied 5 cheese board before finishing with loveky straightforward coffee. A perfect evening!

Very good food and an excellent wine list. We were a party of 5. Both the starter and the main course were very nice, and the portion size was very generous, so nobody felt able to have a desert. We have been here for dinner a number of times, and if anything this place keeps improving. A destination worth travelling to.

I was brought to the Wellington as a treat by a couple of friends who come fairly regularly. They'd mentioned a few dishes on the menu , the haddock scotch egg was the biggest surprise which was a taste sensation , truly delicious. I also sampled my friends liver dish which was beautiful and cooked perfectly . The fish n chips ordered by the rest of us was was equally delicious . We were too full for dessert. Service was good from a plethora of delightful , if slighlty dippy young ladies , and even the owner showed his face , who came over as a trifle brusk , but the food made up for it !

We booked for our silver anniversary meal to be told we would receive a “call back in 10 minutes”. They did not call us back so we phoned them to ensure we were booked in only to be told “we tried to call you but there was no answer”. Mobile phones indicate a missed call so that excuse is void these days darlings. Then they told us we couldn’t be accommodated? As I say we do fine here and usually it’s good but on this occasion we are let down unfortunately.

Food ok but very expensive considering portion size. As others have said, £3.95 for water which was already on the table is just a joke. I actually asked if I could have the bottle, seeing as I’d paid for it, but was told that they re-used them so no, I couldn’t! (I know, I was just being cheeky really!) Oh and I also paid £2.35 for a lime and soda - they obviously used the same water😜! Three mains, 2 pints of beer and a lime and soda = £85 Waitress was pleasant enough but overall an over priced restaurant that thinks it’s better than it actually is. Don’t waste your hard earned money, especially in these difficult times. Such a shame.

As usual the food and service were very good but what left a very bad taste in my mouth was the "rip-off" cost of the bottle of water on the table. When we queried the £3.95 cost on the bill we were told that was the standard cost of the water, but we could drink as much as we wanted for this (inflated) price. There was only two of us. It was pointed out that it says the water is chargeable (at the bottom) of the drinks menu, but when you see water on the table it is normal to expect it to be free. If this is a way of improving profits it is really in very bad taste. Won't be going any time soon.

We regularly eat out and are used to paying good money for good food. Unfortunately the Wellington is just not up to par, they are far behind Triton at Sledmere and Bluebell at Weaverthorpe, both within 30minutes We were sat in a corner of a room in front of a spare chair, no view or window. ambience was poor Breakdown of our meal 2 x fish and chips -£18 each, no peas no bread and butter 1 side of bread and butter £2.20 this was the smallest single piece of bread I’ve seen and to add it was tough and not enjoyable 1 lamb shoulder £24.50 (small portion!!!) Cow pie £22 For dessert A very bland samey same cheese board of 5 (small) cheeses for £12.50. Served with 2 dates A bland meringue for £8.95. It looked amazing but it did not hit the mark . Came with 5 raspberries! 5! Approx £5 for 2 scoops of ice cream We did not complain as we were there with fiends at their request and did not want to upset them however had we been there on our own we would have definitely provided face to face feedback and raised our concerns My partner. once we returned home after a 45 minute drive each way, proceeded to cook a rack of ribs and had a “second tea” given he could have eaten the lamb twice over We did not have starters so cannot comment but at pushing £15 each we wouldn’t have much confidence based on our experience Bill was over £140. No wine as driving . Soft drinks and a couple of pints The only plus factor was the lovely waitress who was very prompt and attentive , she is the reason it isn’t 0 stars! We are regularly used to paying£20+ for a main course and this is not value for money. We will not be returning

Looking for an indulgent night in with five star food? Then look no further than this great pub in an idyllic Yorkshire village... The choice of chilled to heat mains are generous in size, good value for money and delicious! If you are really hungry you could choose one of the fabulous range of starters and ....still hungry?? Why not take away a sumptuous desert.. Covid safe collection...ready on time and absolutely delicious. All you need to do is call and collect

I was grateful to previous reviewers for warning about the water "scam" where filtered tap water is left on the table as if complimentary and then charged £4 for. The waitress didn't tell us it was chargeable so we wouldn't have known otherwise, and we therefore asked for a jug of tap water. At £4 per table there is a considerable amount to be made just by turning on the tap and putting it through a water filter! As for the food, my cheese souffle was excellent, but my husband's crab salad had shell in it. He had the fish thermidor which he said was very tasty, but I was disappointed with the sea bass with the herb risotto. I love garlic, and there was certainly plenty in the risotto but it tasted as if it had been burned and was therefore rather bitter and so I only ate a few mouthfuls. We were with friends so I didn't want to make a fuss so just left most of the risotto. Prices are around mid £20s to £30, and as vegetables were extra, I felt it was not such good value. However, the waiting staff deserve a mention as to how friendly and efficient they were. Service was a bit slow, but it wasn't their fault.

We had a takeaway meal from the Wellington Inn on Saturday evening (duck terrine with salad, halibit in fromage sauce with mixed vegetables and spiced sticky orange cake). The quality of the food was exceptionally high, absolutely delicious and portion sizes were very generous. Our only dissappointment was that it was not open every other night of our stay in the area so we could go back for more. We cannot recommend the Welly Deli Takeaway from the Wellington Inn highly enough.

Recommended by a colleague for our anniversary and what a great place to eat. The pub itself is lovely well maintained, well decorated and comfortable. It is still a local pub and had a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. There is a great selection of food on the menu, perhaps limited for a vegetarian diner though. Our meal was delicious, well seasoned and presented well and good size portions. The quality of food makes for good value. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and adjustments if required.

The Wellington staff have scored full marks again! Just collected a range of delicious dishes and been so impressed by the menu, the instructions which are simple and easy and the quality and quantity of each dish. Collecting couldn't be simpler and safer. Quality and value first class. We'll be ordering again soon.

Lovely location, food was average, drinks were overpriced. I felt it was cheeky to charge £18 for fish and chips and not provide peas or some sort of veg. However this food was very nice. Water was on the table and wasn’t stated we would have been charged for that as menus were not on the table when we first opened it. Seems cheeky with the prices to be charging £3.95 for bottled water that they clearly just refill. Found the flannels in the toilets tacky, felt dirty seeing a laundry basket filled with dirty hand dried towels. Would be hesitant to return here, and wouldn’t recommend to others. Got a lot of potential but feels like they’re trying to be something they’re not.

Three of us have had a meal at the Wellington recently. Unfortunately we didn’t check the bill before paying as we would have seen we were charged £3.50 for water, I repeat £3.50 ! Now on our return home we checked out the menu on their website and found it states that still or sparkling water is available at £3.50 ‘as a matter of course’. What on earth is that meant to mean? What it doesn’t say is that there is an unmarked bottle of water ( a non- commercial type) on the table waiting there before you even sit down - and being uninitiated we assumed it was free tap water. We didn’t give it any more thought because we thought that if we required bottled water we would have to ask for it. We have never come across a situation like this before and I’m afraid we consider it to be very bad practice.

We came here for Sunday Lunch after reading good reviews. However, I have to say the waiting staff leave a lot to be desire. We arrived 10 minutes early for our table, which wasn't a problem for us, as we were happy to wait. We were seated and told we could not have a menu to look at yet, as we were too early! But, we could have a drink. The staff consisted of a bunch of young girls who clustered by the bar, there seemed to be no restaurant manager or Maitre D. There were multiple mistakes and inept behaviour by the staff during our meal, which I won't go into here. But overall, I got the impression, the staff are poorly trained, lack confidence, and most of all need to put a smile on their faces. It looked to me as though they were hating every minute of the time they were there, either that, or they had just had a fight amongst themselves. Smiling and being pleasant costs nothing. We always leave a tip, but on this occasion it certainly wasn't justified. By the way, I was also irritated by a bottle of water put on the table and then having to pay for it. It should be made clear at the time of giving it. Also, the one thing that was really was annoying was myself and my partner being charged £1.50 each for a Yorkshire Pudding, as we had a Roast, but not the Beef. It's not a cheap eats place, but this meaness and the attitude of the staff, will mean we will not return.
