We have been to Penny's many times. The food is always good and fresh and quite reasonable. The meringues are gorgeous!

Came in here for lunch on a Monday . The staff were pleasant and the food was good . Desserts were really nice . I had chocolate bread and butter pudding , and I can say I would go out of my way to have it again " very nice "

Lovely little tea shop, great selection of sandwiches, cakes, quiches - perfect for lunch. Great service! Friendly staff. Only criticism is, I though it was quite expensive :s in comparison to other tearooms. Wouldn't stop me going again though :)

We called in for a coffee and cake late on a Sunday afternoon. The place was empty so we checked if they were still serving and told that it was fine. A lovely bright, busy coffee shop, obviously a favourite with many cyclists and locals. Excellent selection of cakes on offer. We stopped to have tea and toasted tea cakes. Pots of tea served with a jug of extra hot water, which is so nice to have (you don't get this in the Midlands!). Tea cakes were a generous size and... More

Popped in here last Friday because I'd read the reviews. wasn't disappointed.Had the ham and eggs of the specials list and it was lovely and plentiful. Very nearly over-faced. Place seems popular with all-sorts being catered for, mums with toddlers, mums with prams, couples, wheelchair users and even loners like me. Clean, tidy, welcoming, plenty of staff. Good food reasonably priced.

Hidden away beside the market cross is Penny's a great little tea room of goodies your Mam used to make, very reasonably priced. We were cycling to Barnard Castle and one of the guys said he knew of a great little tea room, with exception food, we put our bikes down the passageway and went inside, a great selection on...
