Have visited here a few times now and have had a thoroughly enjoyable meal on every occasion. The evening meals and Sunday lunches are very filling, tasty and presented well. Decor is eclectic and for the first couple of visits you seem to spot something new. Service is spot on and some of the cocktail quite lethal 😂 Go, you don’t know what you’re missing 😉 although I should be keeping this place a secret

My wife and I visited this restaurant whilst visiting the area to see my father, we booked a table via their web site and received a confirmation email wounded the booking was complete. On the day of the booking I received another reminder email in which I could confirm my booking. As the restaurant is a short walk we left home in plenty of time and arrived early, the staff were welcoming and had our table free so we were shown table we were left with menus to look at but were also informed a member of the waiting staff would be with us soon to explain the menu (this was their opportunity to tell us if there was anything on the menu not available and also to let us know about the specials and soup of the day) , they took our pre-dinner drinks order as they do a selection of cocktails. When the drinks were delivered we ordered our starters and mains, I opted for Cod fritters with sweet chilli dip and my wife had mushroom pate, both dishes were delicious. For mains I had Smoked lamb rump cooked to your liking with aubergine purée, hassle back new potatoes, feta cheese, charred onion and lamb jus. My wife had Chicken ballottine with sweetcorn mouse, apple wood mash, baby carrots and smoked sweetcorn veloute So yum! For dessert I had Honey & lemon semifreddo with warm salted caramel sauce and my wife had blood orange crème brûlée with orange sorbet for me. All superb. With appropriate wines for the meals these could be bought in the glass or by the bottle. We followed this up with after dinner drinks of double Glenfiddich 10yr old single malt and my wife had a baileys and cup of cappuccino. This was an excellent fine as this was our first time here and the staff were fantastic the restaurant decor is eclectic but works well

Outstanding!

This was our first visit and I can’t believe it’s taken so long to find this absolute gem of a restaurant. The interior is stylish and sleek, the staff extremely friendly and professional and the food is just amazing. The platter we shared had some of the best meat balls we’d had in a very long while, the cocktails were delicious and the whole meal scrumptious- can’t wait till our next visit

Great celebration

Visited a few times now, love the unique ambience. Food was very good, special note to the soup of the day, cod loin starter and the beef pie. Our waitress Maya was very attentive and really helped make our joint birthday celebration and the evening something special.

Breakdown in Communication

We went for a drink, having seen Happy Hour promoted on the bar's Facebook page recently. When we asked about this, we were told it was no longer available and, quite unprompted and aggressively, that we could check the terms and conditions if we wanted. As we were already there, we stayed for a drink, but we did find this quite pricey and the experience had been a little soured by our first interaction with the waitress. We didn't leave a tip and probably won't return, even though the decor was amazing and the food we saw being served to other customers looked great. Improved communication, either on social media or just in person, would have prevented the issue.

Our first visit to this stunning restaurant. Can't believe we have never been before. The restaurant is so beautiful, decorated Quirky and original. The food was stunning. It's really fresh and well made. It's an original menu with some fun twists. The drinks were stunning. I don't drink alcohol, but I had 2 stunning special feeling drinks. I often just feel like I have to have pop, water, or juice filled mocktails. The mocktail was fresh and beautiful. The staff are excellent. Honestly, some of the best waiting staff I have come across in a long time. We eat in lots of lovely restaurants and these staff would not be out of place in any fine dining restaurant. We had Maia taking care of us. What a lovely young lady. Polite, friendly, and her knowledge of the menu was quite clear. You honestly don't get this quality of staff everywhere. This place is a must try! You won't be sorry. It's definitely a No1 restaurant.

A very inclusive restaurant

I took my friend who has additional needs due to her illness to the Secret Garden and I was so impressed with how the staff handled us. Maia noticed us at the door and brought out a ramp for the wheelchair. She made us feel so at ease, as though we were no trouble. Once we were seated Maia talked with my friend about her meal choices, and showed such compassion and patience. My friend has restricted speech due to her illness, but Maia took the time to find out exactly what my friend needed. I was so moved that my friend was treated the same as anyone else, and I'm sure that Maia's kindness added to us having a lovely time together over a deliciousmeal. I will add that we hadn't booked, so they didn't know someone was coming with additional needs, which makes me rate the place even higher!

Absolutely sensational

This restaurant is by far the best we've ever been to. It's an absolute gem, right on our doorstep! The quality of the food, the service, and even the layout and decor are truly unique and bring a very relaxing but classical atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation here, it'll be the best food you ever eat!

A hidden gem!

Often go here with family or friends whether it’s just to dine out or celebrate and it’s always a fantastic experience. All staff are extremely accommodating, nothing ever being too much. The food is kept fresh with a new menu from time to time and has always been beautiful. Overall a great experience, I 100% recommend trying here if you haven’t already.

Bring back Tapas style menu!

What a disappointment that the tapas style menu is no longer available. Whilst the venue is lovely the tapas model of menus did set 85 secret garden apart from other places to eat in the area. The menu now at lunch is very average, what a shame.

The food here is honestly amazing! Everything is cooked to perfection and so tasty! The portion sizes are perfect too. The staff are really attentive, they go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect for you Would definitely recommend here, either for lunch or dinner, I've been for both and it was just as good both times

Best Restaurant in Newcastle ✨

Met my friend for a catch up - she had been raving about 85 Secret Garden for a while and now I know why! The food was exquisite: beautifully presented and the flavours were delicious. The manager recommended the Tonka Bean cheesecake when I couldn’t decide what to have and I am so glad he did as it was devine! The restaurant it’s is beautifully decorated and the staff were all so lovely. The entire evening was a delight and I will definitely be back!

Genius and delicious

I was having my hair done next door at 81 Rose Garden and spotted 85's leaflet that you could have food delivered to your chair. Given I'd just finished work and wouldnt get home for about three hours, I was tempted. Very glad I did! I ordered the green pasta with chicken. It was delicious! Portion size was generous without being over baring. Didn't have to wait long. The gentleman who brought it me was very nice indeed too. This is such a genius idea for those who have a long appointment, especially in the evening and want a treat/dinner to save them cooking when they got home. Would definitely do this again. 5 stars 🌟 Thank you ❤️

85 Secret Garden lives up to its name, it does not look anything special from the outside but when you walk through the door and go inside - wow! My friends and I went for lunch and we were made to feel very welcome as all the staff were very friendly and good hosts. The presentation, quality and taste of the food was amazing! My friends and I will definitely be back for more!

Great staff and food!

We always have an amazing time when we visit and tonight was no exception. Very attentive staff who make you feel very welcome. The new menu is also a real pleaser! The addition of the light bites menu was a lovely surprise as we got to enjoy the satay chicken again. It's one of the nicest dishes by far. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone if you want a classy and delicious meal out with family or friends.
