I had to leave a review after a lovely meal with my husband at Bodega. We love tapas and our trip to Windermere was his birthday treat so we really wanted to eat here. I rang before to book Bodega but they only accept walk ins- first come, first served - because people book and don’t turn up. The restaurant opens at 6pm. We arrived at 5.30 pm but could not wait in the bar because it was full. Had a walk around the block and returned to see a couple of people leave so went back and sat in the bar. I was sure to let the lovely waitress know that we really wanted to eat in the restaurant and she promised to let us know when it was open. She even brought us a paper menu so we could choose our tapas dishes. Perfect! At 6pm a queue had formed outside, the waitress give us the nod and we all went upstairs to the restaurant. Within 2 mins all of the tables were full! After reading the reviews I knew I had to be alert so as not to miss out! And after seeing the flood of people rush upstairs my husband understood why I had been such a ‘psychopath’ about getting a table. We could finally relax! The waitress took our paper with our selection of tapas but returned a few moments later to tell us we had ordered a lot of food. And that people usually only order 6-7 dishes per couple. She helped us to choose the best selection. This knocked about £20 off our bill and after struggling to eat the 8 dishes we had stuck with, we were extremely grateful that we had taken her advice! The food was amazing and the staff were lovely and friendly. I was glad I had read the reviews beforehand and grateful because it made me more alert that I had to be proactive to get a table in this very popular restaurant.

Ate here for dinner, on a Tuesday night in October. Place seemed fairly busy, which for me is usually a good sign. We waited downstairs with a drink for a table to become available and waited only maybe 20 mins or so. When sat at our table I glanced round and could at least five other tables which were clearly sitting waiting on their food arriving. So I realised that we’d have to wait a while. We must have waited about 50 minutes for ours to be severed. Our food was mostly nice enough but really nothing more than that. We regularly eat in a tapas restaurant close to where we live and it’s miles ahead of Bodega. We ordered a basket of bread and it was literally some soft bread roll from the supermarket chopped up. In other places we’ve had nice sliced bread with things like sundries tomatoes or olives in it. But, not a cheap bread roll from the reduced section at the end of the day. Everything else was just fairly average. The menu itself has a great selection and definitely gets your appetite going while you wait on your food (which is a long wait!), if they just upped the quality a bit it would make a difference. Eating out in Bowness and Windermere is quite expensive so I’m afraid this place did not quite meet expectations.

The food was nice enough and ambiance was ok. I know it’s hard when everyone is masked up but we just felt like the staff were going through the motions. No one asked how our meal was. You need to find your smile guys and make people feel welcome. We had a meal at another local restaurant last night and for the same price meal for a family of 4, the food was superior and the service was much more genuine. We didn’t feel welcome and will not return. Get some candles on the table and get some soul. The pork dish was a bit stingy!

My partner & I spent a gorgeous few days in Bowness over Christmas but our dinner in Bodega on the 26th Dec was the low point. The bar downstairs was buzzing and lively but the restaurant upstairs was very quiet. We ordered 5 dishes and all of them were fairly poor quality (pork was tough, mini burgers were ok, patatas bravas were bland and tasteless, the fajitas were dry and horrible) but the plaice sticks were blatantly off as they smelt bad and tasted awful. I called the (very grumpy) waitress over to take back the fish dish but she told me they were fine as she had them herself earlier and told me to eat them!! I was absolutely fuming at the shockingly bad customer service and even more annoyed when we had to pay for the fish dish when we hadn't touched it. I would not recommend this restaurant and we certainly won't be back. The following evening, we ate in the Bar & Grill where we had the loveliest experience in terms of food, service and atmosphere so we will definitely go back there next time!

The restaurant was empty at lunch time, however we were in a hurry and decided to eat something there. We ordered croquetas, calamares, papas al alioli, jamón serrano and ensalada mixta. The croquetas were the best part, chicken croquetas were nice, however they only served 3 of them for 6.26£ (overpriced from my point of view) The calamari (squid) was ok, a bit soggy and too seasoned for calamari though. That’s not how it’s served usually in Spain, but it wasn’t bad. The potatoes with alioli sauce were bad. Potatoes were clearly frozen (not fresh) and the “alioli” tasted like mayonnaise, we left nearly the whole plate untouched. The Serrano ham was basically a few slices of ham you get from Sainsbury’s, which they charged 4.95£ for. The salad was disappointing, lettuce and olives were off and the dressing was not Spanish whatsoever. The service was awful. The lady who was there was not nice at all and didn’t make us feel welcomed. It almost felt as if she was bothered by us coming inside the restaurant. They operate like a pub so you have to order at the bar, which makes it seem less Spanish if even possible. I hope they use this review to make some changes, I’m Spanish and I’ve tried a lot of Spanish restaurants in England, so I know what to expect. I can say this one was one of the worst ones I’ve ever visited. I hope they make changes and improve service, food, and revise quality and prices.

We booked in advance for a family party of six on Saturday night. Our dining experience was not great. The service was extremely poor. We ordered around 20 tapas dishes and asked that they be served in dribs and drabs but this request was refused with a blunt “all the dishes will come at once”...... ! The table was not big enough to take all the tapas so all in all a massive failure. The front off house staff were not welcoming and our attempts to order an extra round of drinks became a really difficult task. Give this place a miss until we hear that the staff have received some much needed customer facing training. The tapas dishes were mundane and lacked any wow factor flavour. We won’t be returning to this restaurant, there are a multitude of great places in and around Windermere to dine, the Bodega Tapas Bar is not one of them.

Really disappointed with this place given that there are many restaurants to choose from. Service staff were quite surly which to be fair I'm not overly fussed about but what do i care about is a restaurant that serves at least decent food. Nothing we ordered had any positive points - it was either bland or just tasted "off". Not really surprised none of the serving staff asked anyone if "everything was ok" as they already knew what the answer would be. Didn't taste any garlic in any of the garlic dishes and the bruschetta was a complete joke - a slice of french bread with a slice of tomato on top of it does not constitute bruschetta in any interpretation of the dish. In the end just left most of it, paid and left. Either having an off day or the place has went downhill. Will never return to this place.

Despite poor reviews about service we gave it a go as everyone should expect waits at the current time. Yes the service wasn’t great and we saw 2 tables walk out - explains why we had to pay for drinks when ordered and couldn’t have it on one bill with our food, also had to pay for food after ordering the (followed by a fair wait) unless we gave our card to set up a tab. When the rain started smokers stood in the doorway, not 1 or 2 people but a lot which meant so much smoke came into the bar that we inhaled it with each bite/drink. Asked if door could be closed explaining it was affecting breathing but waitress said no and only when stressed the impact on breathing did she say she would ask her manager. She took so long to come back and it got so bad we couldn’t even finish food or drinks and had to walk out (side door and not through the haze of smoke) which may explain why they want people to pre-pay. Barman didn’t seem concerned that people with asthma (or worse respiratory problems) are affected and just said they weren’t allowed to close the doors in the summer - if that’s the case don’t let people stand in the door way and smoke. If anyone has any sort of respiratory problems or simply doesn’t want to have a mouthful os smoke with each bite/sip then don’t accept a table on the ground floor in the bar. Also don’t go there if you want staff to be concerned about health, not just smoke affecting people’s breathing but most didn’t wear masks and some that did left them pulled down below their noses.

Came here on a Monday evening and it was chaos from the outset. We were told to head straight upstairs to be seated, however the waitress upstairs told us we would have a 30 minute wait, which could be done downstairs near the bar area. We hadn’t booked but didn’t mind waiting, however the extremely abrupt waitress at the bar told us it was another 45 minute wait.. already we were confused but decided maybe it was worth the wait, we were v. wrong. 45 minutes later we went to our table and had another hour wait before we received micowaved food. The spanish waitress even said it wasn’t authentic tapas. The fish wasn’t fresh and the tortilla tasted like it was purchased at Tesco. We were the last table eating so we’re clearly given the left overs. It was such a waste of our time! The waiters at the top restaurant were lovely and understanding however the worker at the bar below were dismissive, unfriendly and rude. Wouldn’t return.

Visited on 24th July 2020 for a few drinks and tapas. Was quiet and had no problem being seated straight away! Unfortunately that is the only positive about my experience at this restaurant. The food arrived and first impression of presentation was awful, food was shrivelled up. However I’m not one to complain, so we tried to eat the Patatas Bravas and garlic and mozzarella bread. This was editable but cold. We also ordered calamari, chicken fajitas and meatballs. They were dry, cold and had 100% been reheated. The texture was congealed and hard. I can’t stress the importance of fish/seafood/meat being served HOT. Then, we were interrupted half way through our meal to pay our bill? So my parter had to pay it manually because they don’t do contactless payments (during a global pandemic) and then walk halfway through the restaurant to sanitise and then return to our table. If the food was cold when it arrived it was most definitely frozen by now. I very nicely explained to the manager that I wasn’t happy with the food. I actually said that I didn’t want to disrespect her but it was inedible. Before I could finish she stormed away from me (So 0 people skills and actually could do with some customer service training) and slammed £20 on our table to cover 3/5 of the small plates we had ordered. I work in retail with myself and I’m left gobsmacked. But please, do not give this place your hard earned money.

Cheap freezer food at best. Service was slow and waitress kept making mistakes with our order. £50 for 6 tapas dishes & 2 drinks doesn’t sound too bad. That’s until you see the quality of the food they serve you, it’s honestly daylight robbery. Furthermore, it took over an hour for them to serve our food. Don’t waste your money or time going to this appalling restaurant, go to Tesco and buy yourself a sandwich from their value range, it will be far superior.

We attended Bodega this weekend for a treat as it had been recommended. We were unable to book as they said it is walk in's only however we waited 20 minutes before even being approached by a member of staff. Drinks were nice but slow to come and we only managed one round with 1hr 45 mins of being at the restaurant as the service was that poor ! The food choice sounded amazing and we ordered over 12 different tapas to try between 4 of us. But when the food arrived after a long wait we were really disappointed, everything seemed to be undercooked and under-seasoned. When we noted this to the waitress she didn't seem to acknowledge what we had said and we had multiple fish dishes which is concerning. By this time we were ready to leave as no-one came over and asked how our food was at the time. They didn't knock anything of the bill despite us leaving a lot of food and we felt even asking for the cocktail menu was too much effort for the staff who were extremely rude. There are so many other beautiful restaurants in Bowness, please try them and give this one a miss.

My boyfriend and I went here for about 5.45pm for a meal that we’d been looking forward to all week. We were told by the waitress that the restaurant didn’t open until 6pm. We agreed and said that was ok as we’d have a few drinks. When we were asked for our drinks order, we asked the first waitress for a table for 7pm for food upstairs. She said that this would be fine. It then got to 7.45pm and we asked the same waitress if a table was possible. We could see people were trying to get a table upstairs. However, she said we could get a table. We waited for a bit longer but we then complained and we were sent upstairs by the clearly more experienced waitress, who had stated the restaurant didn’t open until 6pm. We sat down to eat but they brought us the wrong drinks. My boyfriend had ordered me a cava but the staff accused him of being “a liar” as they had brought a prosecco, which was incorrect. There were countless empty tables, which surprised us as we knew there was a waiting list. Half an hour later, after we had sat down, they came over to tell us things we had ordered weren’t on the menu. This was 3 hours after we had arrived. The waitress was extremely rude (who was upstairs) and she snatched our drinks from us as we refused to pay due to the poor service as we no longer wanted to eat here (baring in mind this was for the one drink round they had got wrong as we had paid for the others). Really disappointed at our experience. There was no structure or care from any employee as the place is always full regardless. It could be amazing but the staff really let it down. We can’t comment on the food.

This is the first bar/restaurant I have visited in a long time where the service has been that slow and unacceptable that I was close to leaving. Sat at an outside table we were told by the security man at the door that it was table service and someone would come and take our order. We filled in our details for track and trace and waited to have our order taken. 15 minutes went by and still no one came to take our order. My husband went inside and asked if our order could be taken and was told ‘yeah, ok’. A couple walked in and sat at an inside table directly adjacent to our outside table and had their order taken and served their drinks before our order had been taken even though we went in twice before to say we were still waiting. Finally, a waitress came out and I complained. It takes a lot for me to complain as I appreciate its not always easy if staff are busy etc but this was unacceptable. My complaint was met with a can’t be bothered attitude. I could go on with the further delays and instances of poor service but it would take me another 20 minutes and they have wasted enough of my time this evening. Never again!!

We were happy to wait an hour and a half for a table for food, but we wound up waiting half an hour just to have our drinks order taken despite there being multiple members of staff not looking very busy. Once our drinks order was finally taken, our buzzer went early for our food table. We were originally told our drinks would be brought up, and we could see them being made. Once we were seated it took two attempts to get our drinks, the water we asked for twice never arriving and the cocktails very weak and in a pint glass. We were told the woman told us to reorder them upstairs. Our food came quickly and was nice. When my friend wanted to ask for more butter she was ignored by staff who continued to talk to each other despite seeing her. Staff did not seem to want customers and couldn’t be bothered serving them.
