Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A fantastic find near the cathedral. We visited as a family of 5 and were all highly impressed, from the lovely staff, the excellent menu choices, speed of service and the fabulous looking, delicious food. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be...returning here when I visit Durham again.More

My favourite café in Durham. Great food, reasonably priced and very friendly staff. We were six people and every effort was made to fit us in without any waiting time. And if you are there, make sure you pick up some of their wonderful Durham...sauce - a most delicious salad dressing.More

I like fresh unadulterated food. Today’s soup was chunky veg & red lentil - very wholesome and tasty. The salmon salad was fantastic - the best salad I have had when eating out. All the better for me for being able to request (and get!)...no dressings or sauces but normally these would be served on the side anyway. A good selection of cakes, including a good number of gluten free options. Great service and ambience.More

A busy day in Durham so pleased we got a table after a short wait. Delicious food - I had a chicken and cranberry sandwich, husband had the smoked salmon and avocado salad. We then had hot drinks and a warm fruit scone. The cafe...was bustling, and the staff were attentive and friendly. They kept us informed about the waiting time.More

A quaint cafe near the cathedral. Lovely decor and quirky. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The orange cake and lemon and blueberry scone were simply gorgeous. Excellent coffee. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Spotted this cool place coming back down from the Cathedral after visiting the ice sculptures. It was busy when we arrived. We waited around 10 minutes so they could find us a space to sit. Whilst waiting we received menus to look through. We were...in quite efficiently and were served promptly. The food we ate was deliciously prepared and it was such a lovely place to visit. Small really well worth it! I would visit again if in Durham as you could even pop in for a coffee. Cake or scone. We opted for sandwiches which were very tasty indeed!More

Visited for lunch. Short wait to be seated due to it being busy. Good service and the Greek salad wraps were tasty. Good atmosphere and enjoyable. Even came away with a bottle of their Durham dressing.

I visited the cafe as my wife, daughter son in law and grandson went round the castle but due to the steps and me being on a stroller I wanted something to eat. There was that sign cream tea. Oh no they’d sold out, still...they had some homemade quiche, with 1 table empty right at the very back could i get it.? The young man who served me kindly got my coffee and quiche and off he sprinted to that table and also asked people politely if they could make a gap for me to come through with my frame. A young waitress came over to ask if my quiche was ok and then as i was leaving it was lovely having a chat to the manageress. The cafe was very clean and tidy and as soon as a table became empty a staff member would appear take away the pots and then back to wipe down the tables and chairs. I thought the prices were on par with what youd pay in a high street cafe.More

If you are in Durham and looking for a lovely place to go for coffee and perhaps a bite to eat, you won't go far wrong at Cafedral (on the way to the cathedral). The coffee is the best in town (I'm sure) and all...the staff are so welcoming. If you have a dog there is seating outside. Give it a try. Thank you to all concerned.More

My son is at Durham University & we've often walked by this place when I've visited & said we'd go in for tea one day. Anyway we went in last Saturday, a busy day for the cafe even in winter. There was a small queue...to get a table but the staff told us it wouldn't be long & they'd get us a table asap. In the meantime we were enjoying looking at the interesting things on the landing..especially the big spider plant lightshade. In fact there are so many plants in the place it almost feels like being in an orangery, and it's lovely & toasty & warm inside which was welcome after the cold outside. Five minutes later we had a table. It was full but the service was excellent and friendly. We ate Chai lattes, shared sandwiches (no problem getting a second plate so we could share), and two scones with lemon curd and cream. It came to £30, so not cheap, but it was a treat. We really enjoyed ourselves, both the food & the atmosphere. The older bloke overseeing the staff (the owner/manager?) was very attentive with customers. Prompt payment taken. Excellent service especially considering the amount of customers. We've said we'll return. Might make it a weekday so fewer customers, but lovely no matter.More

Myself and a friend stumbled upon this gem of a cafe as were tempted by promise of fresh scones. We were not disappointed. We both had blueberry and lemon. Gorgeous place, friendly helpful staff and outstanding scones!!!

Another great experience. Delicious lunch and great, friendly service despite the cafe being very busy with graduation. This time I managed not to leave my purse in the loo. Will always be grateful to the owner for contacting me on Facebook and getting a member...of staff to deliver it to the next destination on our Weardale Way walk that evening. This is a great place; do visit!More

Been lots of times and it's been excellent every time but just had to leave a review after the service we had today. It was winter graduation and the cafe was exceptionally busy when we went in. Staff were so calm and welcoming and we...were served straight away. The owner was even found time to say congratulations. Your service made our day, thank you.More

First visit on really busy day as Christmas market in full swing. Big queue but very well managed by front of house. Excellent food. Beigals were light and beautifully made. Came home with cheese scone. After eating it regretted I hadn’t brought home. Definitely returning

The nearest is Princes Bishop car park. As with all cities, parking is expensive, and the Park and Ride is a far more relaxed option.
