So That's Where All The Slates On My Roof Went!

We went to Lime Bistro for our Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed. I like the simplistic menu, with a choice of five starters, five mains and four desserts. So often, restaurants give you far too much choice. The drinks menu is in a similar vein. Meals are priced at £23 for 2 courses and £28 for 3 courses, with a small supplement for steak. My wife had the Arancini to start with followed by the steak which was cooked to perfection. Both were beautifully presented. I had mussels to start with. They were very tasty but it would have been nice to have had a separate plate for the empty shells and a couple of small pieces of crusty bread to soak up the cooking liqueur. My main course was Belly Pork with an apple sauce topping. The only thing missing was a nice strip of crackling. The vegetables were colourful, though somewhat nutty. We both had the cheeseboard to finish. They were well presented on slates. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and a fantastic job has also been done on the outside, considering what it used to look like, when it was a pub. The tables are well spaced and candlelit, giving a nice ambience. All the staff were wearing masks and gloves and all the tables had hand sanitiser, except ours. It seemed like an events night, as most of the tables were either celebrating a birthday or an anniversary. Each received a small token, which was a nice gesture. The staff were attentive throughout and it was nice of Cary, to go round all the tables at the end of service and have a chat with everyone. We had a wonderful night, with superb food and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

What a fabulous night from start to finish. The room was beautifully decorated with bunting, balloons etc which I dropped off the day before. Our meal was superb. Started with pate which was silky and smooth with lightly toasted bread. Followed by tender chicken bursting with flavour. The home cooked chips and vegatable cooked to perfection. Next came the trio of deserts. The brownie was rich and moist and meringue crisp topped with cream and blueberry. Beautiful. The staff were so attentive and nothing was to much trouble and a personal visit from the chef and owner making it extra special. We lef having a wonderful night and will be back soon. Thank you so much.

WELL WORTH A VISIT

t Thanks so much to Cary and her team for yet another delicious meal enjoyed by myself and 2 friends. The Bistro is our restaurant of choice when we have our get togethers. We always omit having a starter because we find that 2 courses are always adequate and would hate to miss out on the scrumptious desserts on offer.One of our party tried the cheeseboard yesterday evening. Beautifully presented and just the right amount of cheeses on offer. We all had steak. 2 well done and one medium rare. All cooked to our liking. Choice of horseradish butter garlic butter or cognac peppercorn sauce. Delicious. All accompanied by a couple of bottles of very nice house dry white wine nicely chilled in an ice bucket. The restaurant had a nice amount of diners just to give it that little buzz. The waitress was on hand without being obtrusive. Highly recommend.

Not what we expected

We booked here for our anniversary because the menu really appealed to us. When we booked we were asked if it was a special occasion and said yes, it was our anniversary. When we arrived we discovered that they were only serving roast dinners because it was a Sunday. Nowhere had we seen anything online which said there was nothing else on the menu on a Sunday. Neither had the booking confirmation mentioned it. The service was good and the meal was okay, but it was just a roast dinner when we had been expecting the full menu. On top of that, nobody even mentioned our anniversary. What's the point of asking about special occasions if they are just ignored anyway! All in all, we left full but disappointed. If you intend to book here I suggest you speak to somebody and ask them to confirm what menu will be available.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience today. I am sorry you were unaware that traditional Sunday lunch was the only option today; we do clearly state on our website that this is the case. I did make a note in the diary that this was your anniversary, but your waitress today clearly missed this, and I can only apologise for this oversight. She is a highly valued member of staff who very rarely makes mistakes of any kind. I am pleased that you did, at least, enjoy your lunch. Thank you again - I will remind my staff to look more closely at diary notes in future.

A treasure

Citron Vert is a treasure and one I'm very happy to have found. The menu changes each month and there is a short well-chosen and fairly-priced wine list. Our last visit was to celebrate my son's birthday and they dealt with the ever changing guest numbers (thank you covid19) with good humour. We chose our meals in advance and the service was efficient, friendly and unrushed. Our table of 9 had a separate dining area off the main room which worked well. Everybody enjoyed their food with the steaks and brownies getting particular praise and the potatoes Dauphinoise triggering an unseemly battle for the last mouthful.

It is easy to recommend this small friendly restaurant. The food is excellent and they clearly use fresh local produce as much as possible. We were also amazed at the prices, fine dining at very sensible prices - I just wish we lived closer (not 300 miles away).

Delicious Sunday Lunch

It was so lovely to finally return to Bistro Citron Vert for Sunday Lunch. We were warmly greeted by Charlotte and Tommy our waiters. I had chicken which was really succulent, my husband had pork which he said was delicious. Roast potatoes and veg were piping hot, I really enjoy the excellent variety of veg you get here; turnip, roast carrots, fine green beans and tender stem broccoli. I finished with rhubarb, apple and pear crumble which was just divine! The tables are well spaced and staff are totally mindful of all current COVID restrictions. A thoroughly pleasant experience, will return again very soon!

Gorgeous meal!

My husband and I visited while on holiday in the area. Food delicious, service great. We had mussels to start, very tasty and came with warm bread and butter. Portion size was fine but the waitress apologised and said it was smaller than normal as they had just ran out - so they deducted some money off our bill (which they didn't need to do!) Mains were delicious and apple tarte tatin was fresh out of the oven and very tasty. Staff attentive and polite. Good value for freshly cooked high quality food.

Delicious Sunday dinner

I visited this great little place after seeing a review in the Northern Echo saying it was one of the best Sunday dinner’s in Durham. I must say, we were not disappointed. I had the lamb, which was beautifully tender and flavoursome. My girlfriend had the chicken which was equally as good- a great selection of veg to accompany (including delicious honey roast carrots). Special mention must go to the pavlova which made an excellent pudding. The service was great, and the staff were really friendly and polite; we will definitely be returning!

Fantastic find, definitely recommend!

What a fantastic find! We were visiting Durham for an overnight stop and staying at a nearby hotel. After a quick google search for somewhere nice to eat close by, Citron Vert came up and they could kindly accommodate us. We loved the simple but varied menu choices, the friendly, relaxed and stylish decor and ambience and the really personal touch. The food was absolutely delicious and the perfect portion sizes. We were really touched that Cary took the time to come and speak to us after our meal. We have recommended you to other friends who live nearby and will definitely be back next time we are up that way. Just a shame we don’t live closer but will be a lovely place to look forward to visiting again! Thank you! X

Delicious Food.

We've had to wait a while but it was lovely to be back at lime bistro. The online booking system needs to be improved. I used this to book a table and having not received a confirmation for some time, rang the restaurant. It was a good job I did, as they had no record of the online booking. So please get it fixed, as you don't want to lose business because it isn't working properly. That aside, the restaurant and food, were as good as ever. We had pretty much decided what we wanted prior to going, as the menu is online and our mouths were watering in anticipation. We both had French Onion Soup with Gruyere crouton. It was beautifully presented in individual tureens, minus the lids. It was delicious but a bit of a job to get out of the bottom of the tureen, with a dessert spoon. Spoons are different shapes for a reason. My wife had the steak with peppercorn sauce, tender and perfect. I had the lamb rump, which was equally tender and succulent. Dauphinoise potatoes and mixed vegetables were the order of the day. Apple tart tatin with cream and ice cream followed. The pastry was light and crisp and the apples just right. I'm drooling just thinking about it. We aided our digestion with a nice bottle of Bordeaux. There is a nice relaxed atmosphere and dinner moves at a leisurely pace. It is a great place for expertly cooked, wholesome, tasty food, with a slight French influence. Everything is plain and simple and very well done and there is always something to tickle your taste buds, on the menu. It is also exceptional value for money and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Really great little Bistro

I went here for a solo dinner as I'm on holiday just outside Durham. Yes, the exterior could do with a facelift, but inside the decor is fresh and atmospheric, scented candles give the room a warm welcoming feel, and the staff are very friendly. Cool laid back jazz in the background immediately relaxes you. The menu is simple - not too much choice ( hurrah!) but every bite of the freshly cooked food is flavoursome and delicious. This was a highlight of my holiday and I'm going to book again before I go home. Presentation was also very pleasing. I chose here because I wanted somewhere outside of town where I could park outside but this lovely little restaurant delivered so much more than I was expecting.

A hidden gem!

My husband and I visited here for my birthday dinner. The food was so delicious, the atmosphere was authentic and the staff were friendly. It was also excellent value for money. Thank you for the lovely complimentary birthday treat and it was a really nice touch to be able to compliment the chef personally. Will definitely visit again.

Best birthday meal

Having stay extensively in France we thought we would give Citron Vert a go as it was relatively local to us. We were pleasantly surprised so much so we rebooked for my birthday the following week. The meal was excellent again and coupled with the fact that the owner provided a bottle of wine as a birthday gift as well as a Cafe Goumande foc we were well pleased. Staff were excellent and sang happy birthday. What more could you ask. There are very few restaurants offering French food and this one is a gem. We will visit again

Charming bistro, excellent food

We had no prior knowledge of the Bistro Citron Vert so had no expectations - we were favourably impressed. The ambiance was welcoming and relaxing. Service was friendly, and prompt without being pushy. Between us we had three different starters and two different mains, plus dessert - none of it was disappointing. The fish and lamb were beautifully cooked and the veg just right. The owner came to talk to us after the meal, which added a personal touch. Recommended.
