Have recently moved to area and searching for an Indian restaurant to enjoy however was slighlty let down by our experience at Spice Lounge. Our drinks order came back wrong for both of us, husband ordered blackcurrant cordial/water and got a coke with blackcurrant in...it, he then ordered veg samosas and they brought out onion bhaji so had to wait to eat our starter together, main course and food served was superb. Unfortunately, our bill was then put down on the table without being asked if we wanted desert or coffee which I feel isnt good service as felt like they wanted our table for next round of customers. Its a shame as most reviews are good but to compare our experience there's areas to be improved upon which makes me want to keep on searching for now.More

We booked a quiet table, due to the fact one of our party had hearing problems. We were seated in front of the bar next to people queuing for drinks and waiting to be seated. We had an open view of the only 2 toilets....The main door opening and closing. We were four people. Granted it is a very small place they had packed it to the rafters. Not only with families. couples but walk in,s and delivery men in and out. We booked for 7 30 we were still there at 10 15. The food My starter was very bland. My main really good. Prices are not cheap for lovers of Indian food. The King's prawns amazing. Don't have the liver it was overcooked. (Why this is on the menu I do not know). We will not be returning any time soon.More

OMG! If we lived closer, this would be a regular haunt. Reviewed best Indian in Durham, this came up. Best meal ever! Service was quick and attentive on a very busy Saturday evening. Malee chicken tikka was a first and I'm converted! Special rice with...fried onions....omg what can I say? All absolutely delicious.More

As stated this is not directed at Spice Lounge, great place and food. Ordered take away at 18:05 last night via Deliveroo. Cited delivery 19:05 to 19:25. Which was bad enough. Advised driver on way at 19:05, 13 mins and just over 3 mile drive....Driver still showing at restaurant 19:15 so contacted Deliveroo to cancel. Advised they cannot as food collected which was a lie. Called Spice Lounge to cancel but they have no control over this, and were very polite and apologetic (thank you and not your fault). Driver landed at wrong address 105mins later just before 20:00. I told him to jog on and didn’t accept order. When I next looked at phone Deliveroo advised driver couldn’t find address and left food in garden?! I found it this morning in the back lane against the garage! Absolutely appalling!! Called Deliveroo to complain earlier, as usual cannot speak to human being and told to use the online chat which takes you in circles! Never again! Disgrace ! We visited Durham for my 50th birthday and booked the Spice Lounge in advance based on the reviews. We were really looking forward to it. We arrived at 20:00 as booked and were advised the table wasn’t ready. Had to wait for 30 minutes on...2 seats situated outside the toilets and witnessed a very drunk male swearing and vomiting in front of us (I was with a child) and several other extremely drunk people staggering in and out the toilets swearing. I love a drink, but this was not pleasant when waiting for a meal. We walked out and went elsewhere. Very disappointed. No apologies from the staff despite mentioning our concerns.More

Lovely small restaurant very popular. Staff wonderful would recommend highly. Food was lovely I had tandoori thali husband had lamb shank. Would go again if in Durham but would recommend people book in advance as it's busy.

Nice resturant with good quality food and attentive service. Tandoori Prawns were very tasty. Much enjoyed our visit.

An excellent meal, lovely atmosphere and great service. Couldn't fault it! It was very difficult to find, but well worth the bother! Totally recommended.

We went to Spice Lounge for an evening meal at 6 o'clock and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. Both the starters and mains were excellent. Highly recommended.

We called in on a Saturday evening on the off chance of a table. We had a busy day so just called in for " tea". We didn't order starters we had a lamb biryani and a special chicken shandar, pilau rice and peshwari nans...The biryani was nice but the shandar was very bland no taste to it. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were served quickly as they have a lot of waiting on staff. There wasn't any interaction with the staff our order was taken and then served.More

Wow, this place is amazing. Me and my friends came i had the chicken biryani and just wow. What sets a good Chicken Biryani apart is the balance of flavors. The spices were well-balanced, not overpowering, allowing the essence of the chicken and rice to...shine through. Honestly with no joke, probably one of the best Biryanis in the North East even England, found my self a new regular spot for my weekly meal with my friends.
