Finbarr's excelled itself with a nicely varied menu, good portions of excellent food supplemented by a great wine list. As a location for a special meal I'd put this high on my list of all the restaurants I've visited worldwide. OK, it's expensive but it's definitely worth it. The new(ish) venue is bigger without seeming too big and whilst it's... More

We were a group of three adults and arrived on time for our 1230pm table booking. The restaurant was almost empty and the "background music" was obtrusive. Our request to have it turned down was met and the service thereafter was very good. We each had the 2-course set lunch for £17.50 (there was a choice of about six each... More

This is a very sophisticated restaurant with delicious menu featuring venison and duck. Truly succulent cuts, beautifully presented. Not cheap but well worth the price. Huge wine selection too!

A birthday meal with family. Staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. Each course was presented so nicely and the atmosphere was friendly but not overpowering. Only 1 improvement needed - the radiators were "boiling" and it was hot where we swerve sitting - however this did not detract from the beautiful time we had. Many thanks.

We went for an anniversary meal. The food and the service were very nice. We had the early evening set menu which was good value for money and had lots of variety. We've visited several times before at both their new and old premises, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends, and have had consistent experiences. The only let down is... More

Was treated to a midweek lunch here by a friend as a birthday gift. Had heard good reviews and always wanted to visit. We chose from the special lunch menu -2 courses. I opted for a steak meal and cheesecake for dessert. Food was good quality, plentiful and very tasty. My friend's steak wasn't cooked to her liking but it... More

We had a family birthday celebration at Finnbar's just a few days ago. It was absolutely fantastic, the food is amazing, the service was exemplary and the private dining room we had upstairs was a fantastic layout which allowed our large group of 14 people to be together, and even the children in our part had a bit of space... A small restaurant hidden just outside Durham city centre. I go here at least once a month and it never disappoints. The food is always beautiful and the wine is suburb....I thoroughly recommend the white Zinfandel rose...the best I have ever had. The early bird menu is great value and always has a selection of amazing choices. Staff are fabulous... More

Firstly the positives ( and there are many); the food is excellent, the staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, the menu choices are good, the wine list is good and the general ambience ic the restaurant is very good. So why the average rating? This restaurant is extremely popular, almost too popular. The table size is the same for parties... More

We had booked our table in advance and headed off to the previous home of Finbarrs at The King's Head hotel, only to find that it had moved to Aykley Heads. The restaurant works well in its new venue and still offers an excellent menu at a reasonable price. Thoroughly recommended!
