Head of Steam was my first meal in Durham; I was staying for about a week. I had a good experience here with the steak and ale pie and pale ale that I ordered. The pie was crispy with tender steak inside and caramelized onion...More

The Head of Steam is hidden away slightly in a courtyard but there is a sign pointing the way. It's quite a modern décor inside. There was a good selection of beers to choose from, pales and IPAs through to porters and stouts.

Have been in here quite a few times over the years and it is always a good place to go. Hidden up the alleyway I bet many people pass straight by without ever noticing it. When the sun shines, it has a lovely balcony upstairs...More

One of the best selection of beers in durham city centre. On the expensive side but update. With beers from europe and the US. the best beers are located up at gilesgate the durham hop knocker much cheaper and better.

A great selection of beers can be found here. However the price is high. Well worth an hour or two. The staff are often very good I. A trendy sort of way

We came here whilst passing through Durham both thoroughly hungry. This place was SUCH a good find. Quirky but comfortable, interesting but not too loud. Good music - rock/alternative in the background. Amazing selection of real ales which my husband was ever so pleased about...More

There aren't that many seats here downstairs so it is a bit limited. There was some range of wine, however, and staff were fine.

There is definitely no parking at the pub, I'm not sure where the nearest parking would be. I always walk there from wherever I am staying.
