We hooked rather short notice for a party of 10, but they squeezed us in & I am so glad they did. The food is amazing! The staff are so friendly and dead chatty. We got 4 starters to share amongst us & all plates...cleared & enjoyed by all, especially the Tia Rose. We all got different mains & every single one had no complaints. Absolutely beautiful, ever so tasty & flavoursome. Will definitely be backMore

We visited last minute on Saturday night whilst here on university drop off. The food was delicious, just great quality. Two party members had ribs and said how they fell off the bones. I had Fish Tacos which were amazing, as were the Tia’s rose...and Mac & cheese bites starters. Service was exceptional, kind & friendly. Only negative was we were too full to try desserts. Happy we found this place and can’t wait to visit again!More

If you are reading this, then you may be aware that I wrote a review on May 1st 2023 about our first time here, and at the end I said we would return. Well guess what? We did. On this occasion it was a little...quieter than previous, but being in the centre of the university City, and it was the middle of August, we put it down to a lot of students being away for the summer, but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the place nor the food. It was lovely to know that Clare remembered who we were, despite 4 months since our last visit, and given that fact she would have seen hundreds of people since, for us, that is where customer service reigns supreme. Again they surpassed themselves with the food because it was on level 10, and despite spending the night in the area, any other restaurant was not even in our thoughts, but it's the little touches that make places like this, down to things that are not on the drinks menu, that are made in the form of drinks with a secret twist. So now you have read the 2nd review, you are now thinking, shall we go, and the answer SHOULD be yes. Until the next time........More

I visited Tia's tonight with my husband and 2 children. We all had lovely meals and drinks. My daughter loved her mocktail (soft tail) and we enjoyed the 'rose' and some tortilla chips to start. My husband and I loved our mains (build your own...fajita and chimichanga) and one pizza and chips was more than enough for the kids to share as they had some of the starter and a dessert. Dessert was also spot on! Staff were so friendly and we loved the restaurant decor. We will definitely return!More

Tia’s is the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. As a vegetarian, my meal was delicious and my husband had the Jack Daniels ribs. The service was excellent and the waitress was friendly and made us feel very welcome. All very reasonable prices too.

We went for our evening meal based on the very favourable reviews on Trip Advisor and were very disappointed. My chilli tasted of nothing but chilli and was just a mush without texture....maybe it had been in the freezer for too long. My wife's gluten...free meal option was so poor she did not finish it. On the positive side her cocktail was excellent, and there is a good selection of beers.More

This is probably our 5th visit to Tias and I’d be reluctant to eat anywhere else in Durham. Everything about this restaurant is fabulous.

So from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome, and that our coeliac daughter would be able to chose from a big range of safe GF options. The staff really knew their allergens, as they live with their own special diets. The...atmosphere too was great, it was busy and relaxed, and it was clear there was a community of regulars that was entirely inclusive. This suits the informal style of the place, it’s cafe with lots of Mexican decor round the walls. The biggest challenge we had was choosing from the extensive menu. The GF garlic bread was generous in size, and tasted good, the jalapeño poppers were good too. For mains, the ribs were smoky and the fajitas smoking hot. Every one ate well, and enjoyed it. It wasn’t mega spicy, but this suited us perfectly. All in all, a great place to share food and chat, and a strong allergen menu.More

We visited Durham for the weekend and went here because it got good reviews. Having now been there, I can say that the good reviews are thoroughly deserved. I've got to begin with the best starter EVER, Tia's rose is just brilliant. I would get...this every time I went here if I was a local. The mains we had were also top quality. After having a few drinks along with a couple of cocktails we were also shocked at the low cost of our night and all the staff were also pleasant and attentive. A really enjoyable meal out.More

Looking for somewhere fast to eat nearby, we couldn't decide between Mexican and pizza. Incredibly we happened on Tia's, which seems to specialise in both! And both were delicious . Highly recommended.

Having never eaten here before, and the fact that my wife's birthday was up and coming, upon looking at the reviews of similar restaurants close to where we were staying, this little gem of a place caught my eye. Off a reservation request went, and...within a very short space of time, Clare responded. After arriving, and my wife not having a clue where we were going, we entered the premises, and oddly enough, were greeted by Clare, who confirmed our booking. It is at this point, that we knew I had picked the right place, as Clare wished my wife a happy birthday. The place was small, intimate, and very busy with a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble. Service was extremely efficient, and the food was to die for, and was very well presented. Drinks were lovely, even the special Gin mix that Clare made for my wife. This is what you go out for. After the meal, my wife went to the ladies room, and Clare came to see me and told me she had a surprise for my wife, for which I knew nothing about. When my wife came back, she was adorned with a sombrero with a sparkler in, and given a shot to drink, Spontaneously, the restaurant broke into a chorus of "Happy Birthday" which made the night. If you are wanting somewhere to eat in Durham, then this place is an absolute must, but just don't tell everyone. We will certainly return for another helping.More
