We often visit dunbar camping in the summer months and discovered this nice welcoming inn a couple of yrs back . Firstly most of the pubs in dunbar Main Street don't allow children(even well behaved ones!) but they are welcome here at the volunteers . The inn is small and cosy with an open fire. The food is very nice... More

Our last night in Dunbar: why didn't we eat at The Volunteers before? We knew the Eyemouth smoked haddock was superb so I felt a little guilty going for the medallions of monkfish in Cashel blue sauce: no need, it was fantastic AND less than £10! This after scallops and Stornoway black pudding at a monstrous £5.95. I had the... More

We didn't know that the "Volly" did food until we popped in for a drink and saw the specials menu. We booked for the following night and were truly blown away with the quality of the food. The scallops and black pudding and whiting goujons as starters were fantastic and the mains of sole and smoked haddock even better. A... More

Super place for a family get together. Which is also dog friendly. Love the beautiful sculpture across the road from pub which is worth a visit on its own merit. Good food ,friendly staff and value for money.

The food servesdecent pub grub and not all hyped up like similar places that are part of a chain and have very powerful microwaves in the back. There's always a decent mix of people and good real to be had as well as their single malts. What's not to like? It's definitely a pub first and foremost and food is... More

There are very few places to have lunch in Dunbar. This pub is conveniently near the harbours. Though it was a rather grey day we decided to sit outside as the interior stank of stale chips. The menu seemed to be "chips with everything" . One of the specials was smoked haddock and it was excellent .

Don't know where to start on this.... absolutely blown away by how bad a standard this place is. We went in after a family day out at Dunbar swimming pool... we was advised by a local to eat here at the "volley". First thing said was 'there's no sausages and mash left and there's no chilli fries left and no... More

After exploring for the day and walking around town we finally had time to sit and enjoy a pint. This place looked interesting and indeed it was. We must have been the only tourists there as everyone there was a local. The only thing wrong was that there was a guy there wearing a NY Yankees hat. I fixed that... More

The food here is good, and a reasonable value for money. The ambiance of the place however leaves a lot to be desired, including some particularly funky smells... Not poor, not great, just really average.
