Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked here for my wife's birthday after it was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious and huge portions that neither of us finished and that is not like us. A good selection on the...children's menu and again a very good portion size. The location is lovely and views across the sea make it even more enjoyable. Make sure you book in advance as whilst we were there they had to turn several people away. We will definitely be returning here when we come to the Isle of Wight again.More

There was a lovely gentalman who showed us to our table, he kept us entertained through out our trip. The food was good and we were plesently supprised by the size of the portions.

Such a lovely find tucked away beneath shanklin chine. The staff are so friendly and amazing - and the food is even better!! Something on the menu even for our fussiest mini. Will definitely be recommending to our friends! When we get back to the...mainland!! 5**** - food can be delicious in pots of places but service can be hit and miss. This place is a definite hit!!! A definite catch of the day, we love this quaint cottage feel pub right on the beach and have been frequently over the years bringing our elderly Aunt/Uncle from up north to experience today. We hadn’t booked but the sunshine gods were on our side,...lots of reserved tables and we were fortunate to time the last remaining unbooked table. Drinks, whitebait, nachos, onion rings, hot and delious for starters. Mains of crunchy chips and steamy scampi, huge portions of spaghetti Bol and not forgetting the Seabass that is a taste sensation. Today the entertainment was provided by David who was charming, witty and a wonderful host. The whole team at Fishermans cottage are amazing and this purple hair/sea bass lady can’t wait until her next visit during the summer.More

It's a nice evocative pub in a great position. Staff are friendly and attentive. The food was average, although plenty of it. We had two sausage and mash, two pints and one dessert which cost over £52.00. That's expensive for basic pub grub, and it...wasn't until later I realised there is a service charge of what I imagine to be 15%. I'm not encouraged to return.More

Restaurant very busy when we arrived. All the tables were occupied or reserved. It was 5pm and people were eating sandwiches and evening meals.Staff showed us to a "reserved " table even though we had not booked. Excellent fishermans pie and partner loved the seafood...spaghetti (generous portion). Good wine choices available. Helpful, friendly staff, a great time was had.More

We recently visited the Fisherman's Cottage and was very disappointed. We visit this pub every time we visit the island and in the past it has been superb but not this time. The service was very poor. We sat outside and there were two staff...guys outside. We ask one for a menu and were told to get one from inside! We went in to get some drinks and were told to pay for them before we took them back outside, my wife didn't have the card, so I had to go and pay for them. We got a menu and were going to have a meal and pay for it all at end. The guys outside wouldn't take the order, we had to go back inside to order. We didn't do this because we find this unacceptable, especially with two guys outside. There was also a large service charge at the bottom of the menu. The guy at the bar said you can pay outside in the summer when it's busy...Really!! Hopefully it improves, as it's a lovely place but not with the present staff.More
