Although it is quite a while since we visited Macfarlanes I can remember it very well, everything is spot on about this place, the service is second to none, and the food speaks for itself. My husband and I both had the cheese soufflé to start, which was beautiful, fluffy texture, and melted in the mouth. For main we again... More

What can i say. Amazing 3 course dinner on a quiet evening. Felt slightly rushed due to the restaurant being quiet, but the food was perfect. Fish and steak cooked as expected - gorgeous. Several options on the specials menu for all tastes. Would highly recommend. Not a cheap dinner but worth every penny.

This not too big restaurant is very welcoming and friendly. We visited at lunchtime Christmas and New Year so it wasn't particularly busy. They do a fixed menu at lunchtime - about £15 for two courses, which is very good value for a place of this quality. We opted for the a la carte and were not disappointed. Our dishes... More

Fabulous! Good, choice, service, atmosphere. The attention to detail was brilliant. Everything done well. The blue cheese soufflé to start was incredible- a good/great starter often worries me as the rest of the night can't fail disappoint? No, started with high standards and just continued through out the meal. The restaurant was full, but enough staff on to keep everyone... More

Went here the other week, it was our first visit. It's not a large restaurant but is cosy & intimate It seems to be one of those places that has a regular clientele, which is always a good sign. We couldn't fault either the food or the service, my lamb was just the right pinkness & my wife said her... More

Invited for lunch as a guest the day before. Confusing entrance with hidden step, but once inside, the layout is simple & easy to access. Ordered a lime & soda which arrived quickly (it needed more lime). Selected the belly pork/apple salad & the grilled plaice and king prawn main. Starter was cold and somewhat bland, was attractively presented. Main... More

First time at MacFarlanes and I was very impressed! Waiting staff were super attentive. The meal was delicious. We chose the set 2 or 3 course meal which is about £23 for 2 courses and £5 for the third course. Pork belly to start and then steak pie with piped mashed potato and veg for main. Followed by sticky toffee... More

I hadn't eaten here since the days of the cubicles and door opening straight in from the street. I was invited to lunch and was impressed. The service is good, not too intrusive, and polite. Three menus were on offer and the choice is very good. I plumped for these lunchtime offer of 3 courses for £20. The goat's cheese... More

Terrific food and service. Had Thai crab cakes followed by the cod from the Specials Menu and shared a bottle of the Gavi di Gavi with my colleague. Great service, very quick and attentive. Very homely and welcoming environment. Much better, if you are a business visitor, to go here than any of the hotel restaurants! Thoroughly recommend it!
