A couple of my friends who still live in Brussels and who I know from my Belgian Expat days were visiting the area, so we met up and I decided to take them to the Turknaz Restaurant as I wasn’t too thrilled at the prospect...of just taking them out locally for fish and chips or a burger.
We arrived as I suggested early evening and it was already pretty busy inside, thankfully I got us a table for three without having made a reservation in a good little spot over by the main bar, we were lucky as within the next fifteen minutes more people in groups arrived.
Without wasting any time I immediately ordered in a bottle of Bollinger, ok, at £70 a pop perhaps a tad pricey, but I’ve seen it sold for more at other restaurants.
I ordered in a Mixed Hot Platter for One as my starter, it was really good but I should have upgraded it for the Hot Platter for Two, and I picked the Turknaz Special Mixed grill for my main course, this was absolutely delicious but I could have easily ate double the portion served, my take on it, the food is excellent but there’s not really enough on the plates for any big eaters like myself out there.
My friends had the Baked Sea Scollops and the Humus starters, with the Guvec Lamb Shish and Barbecue Lamb Shish main courses, which I have on good authority were truly amazing, they were happy with the portions too.
All food came within good time, we were that busy chatting on it appeared to arrive quicker than if probably was, was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.
The venue itself, pleasant enough and it hadn’t noticeable changed all that much since my previous visit when I’d last reviewed it back in January 2017, clean, tidy and comfortable. The background music fine until later on towards closing time as the volume level crept up but still not as loud as I remembered. The service second to none, our waiter was very attentive and polite if not a little nervous and cautious especially when opening up the bottles of champagne but a pleasant smiley little chap regardless.
We had a lovely evening of great food, drink, conversation and location, so I’m happy to recommend the Turknaz Restaurant in Whitley Bay, I’ve promised myself I’ll not leave it so long again between visits.More
