Been here a couple of times in the last few months and have really enjoyed our food. Both my husband and myself had cod, chips and mushy peas with bread and butter and drinks included in the price of £8.50. The huge fish was absolutely delicious with lovely light crispy batter, not greasy at all. The service was excellent by our friendly waitress not sure what her name was. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for fish and chips in Southport.

I looked on Google for restaurants in Southport that did fish and chips and this came out on top. So arrived and tried this evening , and can I say the food was amazing !!!
I had the haddock which you can have with chips or boiled potatoes so fir a change I chose the latter, also cane with mushy peas or carrots if you prefer, Mum had Plaice and my wife who is an extremely fussy eater tried the homemade steak pie , she said it was wonderful , and not a piece of gristle or fat to be seen .
There are Perspex dividers between all the tables and the restaurant is spotless.
Three main course , which come with peas or carrots and bread and butter please tea/ coffee or soft drink and one rhubarb crumble and custard ( which was sooo nice)
Came to £30 , we will be returning again , probably tomorrow. I would recommend this place to anyone and wonderfully friendly staff too !!!

Our Family have used this chip shop & Resturant for 55 yrs, it changed hands around thirty years ago I think, but the standards have remained the same.
Very good Fish chips n peas on every visit for 55 years and have never been disappointed, the next best chippy ( the Quayside in Whitby ) but it will cost you double £££ . keep up the good work , 🌈Stay-Safe🌈 And Thank You all.

Came with the wife and kids (10 and 4) for tea. Down a side street and but the short walk was definitely worth it. If you are looking for somewhere swanky and newly decorated then this really isn’t for you.
BUT...if you want delicious fish and chips that is really reasonably priced, a relaxed atmosphere and good service then I’m not really sure you could find anywhere better. Jess, our server, was friendly and great at her job. The food was hot and fresh and came out quickly. Fish and chips included peas, gravy, bread and drink for less than £10 and was fantastic. Kids meals (Jumbo sausage and giant fish finger) were great too.
So glad there are still places like this to be found at the seaside.

Oh dear, tonight we chose the Swan which we often do. We ordered several items but when unpacked we were missing 2 large sausages. My wife had another 6 mile round trip and found herself at the back of a queue of 10 customers. Unfortunately it’s an outside queue in the rain. She finally gave up and went to Fylde road chippy for 2 sausages which added another 2 miles to the journey. Not sure if we were charged for the sausages at the Swan but the order was read off a text message so unlikely my partner got that wrong. These things happen but it’s a big inconvenience, my son fell asleep waiting and hasn’t eaten, and although we ate it after a tickle in the microwave, it just wasn’t as nice as usual. Wasting time wasting money. If the staff spent another 30 seconds checking then this can be avoided, a completely flat experience. I’m all for supporting your local business but it works both ways.

We were recommended to come here and we weren’t disappointed. We ordered the fish, chips, mushy peas and a cup of tea offer ( with a side of curry sauce). When our meals arrived we were amazed at the portion size - the fish alone practically hung over the side of the plate, it was huge! Altogether a fantastic chippy meal and the staff were lovely too. We’ll certainly be back for more...

This place is great. It can be very busy but there's a good reason for that - value for money. The food tastes just as it should and the service is second to none. If you're a visitor to this country and want to try Fish & Chips as they should be served and eaten take the time to find this restaurant.

What more can you say than fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter & pot of tea for £7.25 to eat in and serviced fab and all covid measures brill making you feel really safe while eating a delicious fish & chips! The fish was so tasty and the batter light and crispy but not too crispy and not fatty either, the chips were just as chip shop chips should be and the mushy peas were not dry or hardly any as get in some places, but just as they should be nice and moist and plenty of them, delicious. All covid measures very well done and couldnt fault the staff or their measures. Came on my own not long before lockdown during the day as hubby was having fish & chips at his work that day. I sent him photos of mine and he was envious of it! He said where is that, cos I gonna have to come with you for that and then of course lockdown came so it will now have to wait to eat in there and I am sure he will really enjoy it and it will become our eating in chippy despite there being one within walking distance to our house, would prefer to drive to this and find somewhere to park and get a fab fish & chips!

Love taking my Dad here for a little treat, the place is spotless, the staff are so lovely especially Sharon with the silver hair, she always makes us welcome. The food is always piping hot and served quickly but most importantly always delicious. The best chippy for miles. If you love great service, great fish and chips and great value for money you won’t be disappointed.

We came here today as recommended by my partner's mum and I'm so glad we did. The food here is much better than the fish and chips you'd get near the pier or amusements, and the portions are really generous. I unfortunately couldn't finish mine but it was a proper seaside tea. I had scampi which you could tell was good quality stuff, and the other three in my group had the fish which they all commented on as being lovely.
The staff were all really friendly and welcoming, proper service with a smile, and we felt safe whilst eating as they've adhered to government guidelines with covid, even having a separate entrance and exit to avoid customers coming into close contact.
I'll definitely visit again and recommend it to anyone I know that visits Southport.

Oh, I just can’t stop writing reviews about The Swan! As regular customers my husband and I have really missed not being able to dine there during the pandemic. However, they are back in business for takeaway meals and we had our first one last evening. It was as excellent as ever! We placed a telephone order and couldn’t believe how quick and efficient everything was run and all very safely. The food once we got it home was piping hot, fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to go back! To all the lovely staff......thank you and keep safe.

Been going to the Swan for years nearly every week, We sat inside we really missed our Fish and chips during lockdown, but has we have about a 12 mile journey we left it till early August. We have had 4 takeaways now and every one was fantastic we sit in the car outside Hesketh Park to eat them and hopefully, we have not sat in as yet but hopefully one day soon.It is the best fish and chips in Southport

Had cod chips peas tea B and B last saturday.
This place had been recommended. We were disappointed sadly.
We were given far too may chips which were pale needed more cooking ,the fish wasnt great either more batter than fish and the fish was tasteless ,the peas were stodgy. However the real was ok .
Sorry Swan ,on the positive side it would have been good value if we had enjoyed it .

Well when at the seaside you can’t not have fish & chips and where better to go than the Swan, highly recommended to me by various friends. It’s tucked down a back street behind the Bold Hotel on Lord Street so more known to locals than Tourists, hence the queue down the street for take outs.
However we needn’t have worried as there was no queue for the restaurant plus we got a table just as someone left!
So we had Haddock as Harry Ramsden when alive, would never serve Cod, as he saw it as a dirty fish that ate off the bottom of the ocean, while haddock sits higher up and probably why it’s a drier fish.
Anyway we both had the Fish Supper of Haddock, Chips, Mushy Peas, Bread & Butter and pot of tea, although alcohol was available. What a beautiful treat and cooked to perfection with decent batter and great chips plus fresh homemade tartare sauce and we had to agree the best we’ve tasted in a very long time!
Staff once more were friendly and professional and the place was immaculate and the food was amazing so what more do you want?

After searching trip advisor for best chippy in Southport this did not disappoint and certainly deserves the title in my opinion.
Best fish & chips we had I can remember, perfect portion beautifully cooked fish and well presented for a takeaway.
