On 25th April I received a telephone call at 4:30pm from the kookabar to confirm my booking for 3 adults for 6.15pm . At this time there was no mention of being short staffed or that they wasn’t serving desserts. We ordered our food with...the waiter with one of us having a smaller portion meal. The waiter who served us said “bare with him as he was working on is own front of house”. Two of us had eaten there many times. We ordered a meal that we have had previously (at least 4 Times) . In fact we had been looking forward to eating here since arriving in Saundersfoot. After asking if we could have the prawns pre skinned which the chef accommodated, the food arrived. The fish goujons was over cooked greasy and hard, and the prawns tasted as if they had been frozen ones and not fresh. On asking for the dessert menu we was told that no desserts or coffees was being served due to the staffing issue. Yet they continued serving pints and alcohol!. From my own experience it doesn’t take much to prepare desserts, we were only going to have an ice cream sundae each. Thankfully we have eaten here many times before and had this meal so know how nice it is. The chef did come out and apologise as we were disappointed, he went onto tell us that he found out at 4:00pm that 3 of his staff were not turning up for work that evening. I informed him that I received a call at 4:30pm confirming our booking, this was the ideal time to tell us that it would be a limited menu and no desserts would be available. Also on arrival at the restaurant they had the chance to mention that no desserts or coffees would be available. Maybe if they had just kept to table bookings and not welcomed walk in’s like they did when so short staffed then they have had the time to provide the dessert menu. If we had of known we would of rebooked with how much we enjoy this restaurant. It was a meal and evening that we had been really looking forward to but sadly it was a huge disappointment.More

This place has changed :( we hadn’t been for a couple of years since chris left and the food used to be superb! You would have decent ribs with your steak and a lovely array of sauces and relishes to go with them. This was...not the same experience tonight and I don’t think we will be back :(More

Haven't been to Kookaba for a year or so, but having grown up in Pembs have been visiting here for over 20 years. In that time it has reliably been great food at decent prices in a laidback atmosphere. I recently ate here and ordered...the Outback Rack ribs as I always do. The ribs used be chargrilled with some bite and chew - perfect for dipping in the bbq sauce, but this time they turned to mush - like tasteless baby food. I was really disappointed and took the majority of the meat home for the dog as I couldn't eat it. Otherwise great staff and service, nice atmosphere. My friend had steak and really enjoyed it so it was just the ribs. Hopefully this was a one off!More

Looking for somewhere to eat on Monday evening,31/01/22. Came here on a recommendation and were not disappointed. We enjoyed a wonderful meal, the garlic mushrooms were amazing, a first class meal that we just couldn't fault. Would definitely return to this restaurant.

What a cool, friendly place to eat. The staff are helpful, food is spot on always with a chilled surfer vibe. If you have missed this hidden treasure by the beach everything is good but try the ribs, the best I have ever had!!! Steve

We had a meal on our honeymoon at the kookaba. We've eaten here a few times over the last 18 months and seemed only fitting to have a meal on our honeymoon. As usual the food was cooked to perfection, sirloin steak with trimmings and...margarita pizza, absolutely lovely. Service was brilliant. Deserts were excellent homemade trifle with amerata and a banana split, delicious. Looking forward to our visit again next year.More
