I was last in Whitby 10 years ago and can recall having a lovely lunch here. However, on this occasion the service and menu choices were great, but the food didn't quite hit the mark. I ordered the fishcakes, which were beautifully presented with salad & coleslaw....but didn't taste of any fish!!!! I hope it was a one off.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Soup and chunks of bread and butter for me husband had a toastie with brie and onion marmalade. Very hearty and tasty on a cold snowy day. Cakes looked lovely but after a good meal no room so took them as a take out. Wonderful old fashioned establishment. Lovely staff. Courteous and friendly. Definitely... More

Having seen a steam train arrive and leave Pickering station we decided to have lunch. It was pretty busy, the staff were welcoming and our order was taken and delivered. I had a Ploughmans granary bap, which had grated cheese, some ham and piclike with coleslaw and a side salad. The others had chicken and cranberry sandwich and a ham and... More

This tea room is very classy. Lovely table settings and quality waitress services. The food is delicious and is on sale at the front of the shop to take away. We were working at the NYMR wartime weekend last weekend. Their pork pies and blitz biscuits are very tasty. The portions are substantial from soup, sandwiches or warm meal. Lots... More

We visited the tea room on the Saturday of the NYMR Wartime Weekend, as always it was very busy, ordered lunch, did not have to wait long, food as ever was presented nicely and very tasty. The staff as always were very polite, nice to see the same faces as were there last year, could not name any individuals as... More

Despite having lunch during the 1940's event and the place being packed, staff were friendly and efficient. Our food arrived pretty quickly and was a pleasant surprise. Really generous portions, fresh and tasty. Considering the pressure on staff we were not kept waiting or rushed and had a pleasant relaxed meal.

We thought we were just having a sandwich with our coffee but when it arrived with a beautiful side salad not just a garnish we knew why we had been given a knife and fork! Lovely fresh bread, delicious and varied choice of menu. We had lunch but the afternoon teas looked wonderful. Extremely friendly staff, Just across the road... More
